Hey all I was wondering how many people will be staying over night for the odyssey? if you are will it be Friday or Saturday? we will be there all weekend I thought this might be a good time to have a M&G in St.Cathrines (Dax fix my spelling) there are always a bunch of people that come up every year and stay over but head off in all directions after the Odyssey I have heard from many who just went for dinner then back to their room as they did not know what to do. If there is enough interest we can work on something. If there is not that many we will just catch up during the show.

Wow that's very sad news thanks for the update Lew.

Could have been a bad rod to have her find like the new StCroix elite series. I'm lucky I don't think I have to hide my stuff from the wife she knows what a difference it can make for our fishing fun. And she was there when I bought my three StCroix LT's and her 1 no complaints I'm lucky that way.

I hear ya mike it would be nice to get out. Phil you and Pj should make the trip down south it's a great place if you guys decide to tow your boat down there I can give you pointers on what they had us doing. Guess I kinda hijacked my own thread but hey it's musky fishing.

Thanks Lew I went last year with a buddy it is a great place and awesome people down there. Last year we got there it was 83 in the evening sunny dead calm the morning came it dropped to 63 plus started to pour rain just as we met our guide it stopped only for 10-20 min then started up again for the rest of the day. We had one follow what a long cold day. Day two we met our other guide the temps came up a few degrees by 9 am it was closing in on 100 by noon we had called mercy and were driving home totally roasted like lobsters. The guide we had this day was awesome he was talking to 9 other guides and no one saw a fish but Scott worked us hard trying many different styles all over the place it was not for trying just bad weather luck. Both guides were happy that we were both musky nuts so we did not cry about no fish. I'm looking forward to this year at musky mountain lodge and getting down to see my friends Tony Grany Scott Charlie Vicki mike jones and others. If anyone was looking to get away have a look at his place only $695 gives you three nights stay plus two full days with his guides.

Lol I hear ya Lew I have enjoyed passing the winter with shows and will be doing more next year it's great to get out and talk about musky during the long winter months. Our chapter is planning on doing nights like this each month to help people getting started into musky fishing. I'm also heading to cave run Kentucky this April to break up the winter.

New location and old dates for the Toronto Sportsman Show
Handlebarz replied to John Bacon's topic in General Discussion
Will have to see what there prices are like if its doable I will get a booth at that show to help support it abs see if it can get better. I know one of the bigges complaints I heard this year at the fishing and boat show about the other one was location and parking. Hope it will be better. -
East hill is a great little store they did not have any musky grear but were told about our stuff and after a couple phone calls I took a drive up and delivered the first order. They listen to the customers and get in what is needed. They have a large gun and bow selection. This year they will have a great fishing selection.

Since I usually only chase musky I will be a double 10 Handlebarz disco inferno. Great for any colour water and pisses off them neutral musky.

Gord Pyzer just did a awesome seminar at musky Sunday on lotw it was great and very educational for anyone fishing that area. He talked about the different parts of the lake and how they all break down. The colour choices for each area this was a must see for guys fishing that area. -

For the rod on big bucktails if you have the extra cash go for the sling blade or big nasty. Don't get anything shorter then 8'6" if your looking for a serious full time rod. As for reels the Abu NACL 60 series is great and will stand up to the big musky up there. If you have crazy cash then the Tranx is awesome I have it on the big nasty and its great for big blades all day. -

Lotw is everyone's destination goal I also heard that Ryan closed shop it was from one of his close friends I heard it from plus he would shut it down for the winter months and go home to Winnipeg. I have never fished it but have many customers that do alot and their bait of choice is inline bucktails. They all seem to do best on them but use jerk bait or glide baits to find musky or top water baits like the top raider. If you need flashabou I can help out and you will save alot over the prices up there even when you add in the shipping. Have a great time up north -
My first real combo was a 7'6" compre with a Abu 7000 BG gold reel it worked but moving up in rod length helps alot. I boated my first casting musky on that combo with Lew and had my first follow that was fun. I now love a 9' for big blades with a tranx 8'6" with the Diawa 400 Lexa? Or what ever its called for big rubber. And a 7' with the NACL for the jerk baits. It's all about personal choice but over the years I found these to work for me
-
If your looking for a all around rod I like a 8' XH also it will not break your back casting big blades and you can still work jerk baits (like Gary said a 7 is the best for jerk baits) but your after a all around rod that's why I suggest 8' to get started with. The Abu NACL is a great reel as is the Abu Toto winch 60 both would work good for you. I know the reel will be over $160 but I'm sure if you find a good rod used you will save enough to buy a new reel. For your line if your casting I suggest 100lbs braid line.

I did that to my sisters boyfriend 20+ years ago he never asked to come for a ride again. Maybe Paul should have been nicer and just bought you a sled years ago. Hope you are back on the ice soon.
