  1. Thanks for the great report Chris, looks like you guys had another great trip! I know what you mean about the bugs, we were up at Windermere last week and in 30 odd years I have never seen the black flies that bad! Will be picking at the scabs in my scalp for weeks! Kris
  2. Mike, thanks for putting that together, great report as usually. You covered all bases from flight in, accommodations and of course the important part, the fishing, body of water and how you attack a new body of water, all great stuff for the rest of us who may in fact add that camp to our wish list. Speaking of Watson's, does anybody know if they purchased Everson's camp on Kaby? I know Rich Everson has been trying to sell it for years. Thanks
  3. Frank, She looks good, love the cover and I bet it came in handy last week. You will get years of enjoyment out of her unless you get 2 foot syndrome. I am sure that made things easier getting around on the big lake. Glad to hear you guys had a great trip I know exactly where ever one of those pictures were taken! Can't wait to get back up.
  4. I just loaded the 4.0 update today. Prior to this I was running the 1.8 version that came pre installed with no issues. I have the Navionics Gold card and now after loading the 4.0 update the Nav charts load very slow when zooming in and eventually freeze the unit, at the same time some of overlay data disappears almost as if the unit is rebooting. When I switch from the Nav card over to the Lowrance mapping everything seems to function normally. I did not have the unit on the water, just loaded it in the garage. Is it possible I should have loaded the previous updates 1st, 2.0, 3.0 prior to the 4.0? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. Simon, Great video, you guys really know how to have family fun up there, you will all have lifetime memories. How is the rink looking?
  6. Frank, Awesome report! Looks like you guys had a great week. I am amazed at how much the water has dropped in 3 weeks since we left, wow what a difference. Looks like you are really becoming comfortable and confident on that big body of water,, as you said, pick it apart in smaller pieces as there is so much to explore. The crayfish,,,, we actually picked up a few while jigging as well, never have I seen that before. Juli did a great job on the pics, it was almost like being there again. I have witnessed that sunset myself a few times from that exact location, actually have copies of that photo lol,, it is a great position to be in for the feeding frenzy at 9:30 PM isn't it. Did you make the trip down to the falls??? The wall of walleye,,,, you will have to fill me in on that one some day. I bet you can't wait to get back in Aug, I will have to wait until June 2014 for my next visit. Looking forward to your Aug family report.
  7. Mike, Another great report, thanks for putting that together! Looks like you guys had a great trip, can only imagine what you would have done with 7 days at your disposal. We were up in that area the 1st week of June, fishing was fantastic but the black flies were absolutely brutal. Have never seen them that bad before, made for a long week but fun none the less. You mentioned the mayfly hatch, we started to see belly’s full of them as the week went on depending on which end of the lake they came from as the hatch had just begun. High water levels made travel easy but lots of floating debris to contend with. Kris
  8. Well if any OFNer would like to own it they can check it out on Kijji Hamilton!
  9. I purchased that Camaro over a week ago so I'm not sure why he hasn't taken the ad down. As a matter of fact I just had a new trailer hitch installed this afternoon so I can pick up my new boat with it later tonight
  10. The boat is no longer for sale as I purchased it earlier today. I was able to talk him down to $4485.00 so I think I got a good deal. As a matter of fact I just wired the money to his account in Russia, not sure why he wanted it sent there but none of business I suppose. He told me I could pic the boat up tonight but not until after midnight as he needed to clean it up a bit 1st. He is working midnights so he will not be home but said not to worry and gave me his address with directions. The ownerships will be signed over and left in the glove box with a receipt. Sounded like a hell of a nice guy to me.
  11. What's on your mind?

  12. Frank, I was waiting for this report but haven't been on to much lately. It looks like you guys had great weather! Your pics are fantastic and bring back lots of memories for myself, never get tired of looking at the place. Now that you have your feet wet you can explore that massive body of water even further next year, lot to cover in due time. You may even think about hitting some of the back lakes Looks like you did well once you found them and put a few fish in the boat. In the end its all about family and having a great time and its looks like you accomplished that and then some, smiles tell the tale. Nice to see the entire family enjoyed the trip,,, and yes the Zimmermans are 1st class all the way. Great report! Kris
  13. Aww the falls, I was just there myself a fews weeks ago and can't wait to go back. Looks like you guys had a good time. Were you camping or did you stay down at Happy Days?
  14. I am sure you will be happy with your choice. I was up at Happy Day Lodge the 1st week of June last year and found both the camp and owners to be A+. Very nice people (Bob and Sondra) and they go out of their way to make your vacation the best it can be. As Mike stated it is a big body of water but after the 1st couple of days it wasn't to difficult to located fish and we did just fine granted not to many big walleye with most being in the 13" - 18" class and skinny for the most part. We found mornings fairly slow paced but the evening bite was excellent for the last hour before sunset then they would turn off completely. I received an e-mail from the camp on the weekend and they just completed the purchase of Prairie Bee Camp to the south of them and will run both camps starting this year. I will return again this year the 1st week of July and I am excited already just writing about it.
  15. http://www.windsorstar.com/travel/Aspiring+photographer+finds+adrenaline+rush/3737545/story.html Hey Brandon, hope you don't mind me posting this. I found it to be a great read on your adventure. Great Job.
  16. Hey Brandon, some great shots there, look forward to the rest of the report once you get back. Maybe we can get together over at the Sportsman when you get back. Would love to hear about your adventures 1st hand. Have a safe drive back. Kris
  17. Hey guys, I have an also similiar problem with my 2002 25 hp Merc. It loses power at WOT for a split second the it jumps right back. I have been through all the fuel system trouble shooting with little success. This motor sits in my garage all year and I only use it 2-3 weeks out of the summer up north. I believe it can't have more then 50 - 70 hrs of run time in its life. I ran it for a week in June and it ran great. Last week I went back up north and started having problems. I took it in to a marine mechanic this week thinking all it needed was a carb clean out and so did he. Well he called me yesterday and told me he did a compression test on it and got 110 psi out of one cylinder and 92 on the other. Under further investigation he stated that the wall of the lower compression cyl had a score in it, not sure of the root cause. So, to make a long story short he told me it would only be a matter of time before I through a piston. I asked him for alternatives and he told me he does have a used 25 Evinrude 4ST he would sell me. he told me he would give me $ 600 on a trade. What do you guys think? he is a reputable mechanic. I was not planning on buying another motor. Should I tell him to put it back together for me and take my changes? Is it possible to run low compression in the 1 cylinder? I am heading north again in 2 weeks and do not want to be rushed into finding another motor in a hurry, like to take my time with these purchases. Sorry, I was not trying to hi jack this threat, just looking for some input. Thanks
  18. I'm headed up to Windermere later this week, I believe someone else from the site was going at the same time. Keep us updated from your local perspective. No power in Chapleau and could be a while before its restored. They say it originated 62 km east of Wawa on 101, very close to Prairie Bee correct??
  19. All in good fun I know, but it can be done lets see how it plays out.
  20. Hey Brian,,,, What was that you said????? I have bitten my tongue on this one for 2 weeks. Your Colts are the most overated team I have every seen. They were ranked #1 in the CHL playing in the weakest conference. Not much of a challenge all year. They had Mississauga as their only competition, doesn't matter who they had played, they would have had their hands full with Kitchener, London, Plymouth or maybe even the Sault. I believe that the media truely had people believe that they were the real thing which was very misleading. On today's broadcast they talked about how Barrie won both meetings with Windsor but failed to mention that Windsor had 6 players missing at the World Jr's and were playing with 5 Jr B players in their line up. I'm not saying the series is over as we know what happened in the Kitchener vs Windsor series. If the Colts can win game 4 they will be on their way and heading home for game #5 and anything can happen. The hit on the goalie at the end was pure frustration on Barrie's part and was brutal. Should make for an interesting game 4. Anything can happen and lets see how the cards fall.
  21. Brian what were asking back on April 20th?? All the pros that are in the know, have picked Barrie and Windsor to meet in the finals.Barrie is up 3-1 against Mississaga(as expected) but the Kitchener Rangers are spanking Windsor. All that talent Windsor has , thier on thier way out, down 3-0. NEVER SAY NEVER Great finish to a great series, lets see if they have anything left in the tank for the Colts!
  22. Jaggersr, we will see you there. We just booked last night for the week of June 5th as well. There will 6 of us in the group and none of us have fished that lake before so it will be interesting. Smitter, thanks again for your help.
  23. I'm not sure about Windermere but I do know there are sites on Prairie Bee just to the south. I have seen them marked on islands around the lake. I am actually headed to Prairie Bee in early June, have not fished it in 11 years so I do not know what to expect, time will tell.
  24. John, I had to go back and read your thread over again,,, is this post really about becoming a guide or is it about using the skills and knowledge that we have all acquired in our chosen fields and finding a way to make money using these skills by selling them to others ??? This might be the path that you have taken to make a few extra bucks and if it works for you so be it, doesn't mean that it's for everyone. Let me know when your appearing at my local Holiday Inn and I will try to attend.
  25. If you guys are going to talk about her at least call her by name (Martina) she is a very sweet innocent girl who is just looking for a nice strong fisherman to take care of her, she tells me thats why see contacted ME! I have sent her money to cover her airfare to TO (she said she wll repay once she lands) I am going to pick her up on Thurs and she has offered to clean house for me just until she gets on her feet. Then we will take it from there. I am planning to take her to meet my parents on Friday. Do you guys think that is to soon? If anyone would like, I can forward you some of her pics, of course only a few as some of them were for my eyes only (she said so)! Actually Rick, I received her e-mail at 3:17 PM today. When did you cancel the account?
