So no one had any tips for a beginner with a lack of equipment?
went at 7am, out for 4 hours, trolled at 3mph with deep diving crank baits, guessed at the depths for the lures, lost 2 very quickly after they hit but think I know the salmon/trolling error, caught 3 salmon....5lb, 5lb, 10lb. no pics.
Everyone else was using down riggers but only one guy faired better.
In all I think it was pretty good, could have landed a couple more and maybe hooked a bit more with some trolling knowledge.

OK....I must confess that "spartan" is an exaggeration. Have a boat but am not rigged for Lake o salmon:
Never been and do not have any deep water equipment (downriggers etc). No planar boards.
I do have cleos and some hard baits that will swim at 20ft.
I am heading out at 6am for a few hours around darlington.
Any tips on making the most of what I have?

That pic looks like a jon boat.
Buy a jon boat for dirt cheap and mod it, in the states its popular (calmer lake conditions). There will be many jon boat mods floating around the net.......how will it do in rough water????

Forget Bell.
Forget Rogers.
If you dont get Teksavvy at $30 a month or Acanac for $19 a month after hearing about here I will start a petition to have you slapped with a trout!

Um, no. YOU have to prove that the fish you are caught transporting was caught in season, which is impossible, which is why it is illegal to be transporting fish out of season.
It's very unlikely that anybody will be checking for OOS fish AFTER the season closes, but carrying a trunk full of trout 1 week after the closer is the same as carrying them around 1 week before the opener. How hard is that to understand?
It is not hard to understand what you are saying. Just not believable.
Dead fillet of fish are illegal to transport? I am thinking you getting this general idea from hunting regulations. Can you quote the reg and give a location to look it up?
There is no season for possession of stored fish.

Need to read the not so fine print of the regs, they are catch & POSSESSION limits.
Yes, it is illegal to be transporting out of season fish.
Ridiculous. The catch part is the only part that relates to the season and the court has to be convinced that you fished out of season.
"Not in Ministry courts"
Yes, there is a reasonable presumption of innocence before proof of guilt is offered. Its a court that is ruled by Canadian law, not some Ministry tribunal outside of the law.
I have yet to hear of anyone busted for eating a Salmon sandwich out of season.

There is no rule stating that you are not allowed to have fillet of fish in possession out of season. It is only illegal to target or catch and keep fish that are out of season.
If the CO wants to be an ass he can ticket you with any false charge he wants.
If you keep the caught fish on the boat after the season ends or have it near the water unstored away I can see a problem.

Whatever dude
That seemed a nasty comment.
I thought you said it was just better to walk away?
Walking away is your opinion....I have mine too.

Who cares, just walk away it's not worth it.
Thats suits some but, let bullies rule the river? You have to be kidding.
Some will run, some will hide, others will try to turn the tide.

I have been using quick release clips with some light tackle and have liked them a lot. They have a 15lb rating and I got them from Bass Pro and recommend them. BPS has a crummy pic of them. Cabelas sells them too:

You did not offend me. I knew what you were getting at. Different language usually means a different culture...it is also a sure way for a group to intimidate an individual or a good way for someone to claim ignorance.
Those guys who declared "This is now a bottom bouncing hole!" may have resorted to a foreign language first if they knew one.

Three star rated engines will still be better than lesser designs at present however mandatory cats will make a significant improvement so yes over time non cat equipped engines will be viewed as higher polluters.
My company has something special and very interesting in development though.
What does your company do?

Does this mean my merc '3 star' engine will be considered a big polluter?

Those 2 were up to no good and I remember reading that interfering with fishing is an offense. By verbally declaring "this pool is now for bottom bouncers" their intention to interfere with your fishing is clear. Maybe a cop could have fixed up the situation.
Of course a childish thing would have been to tie large rocks to the end of your lines and declare them as sinkers as you lobbed them into the pool. Those knobs sound like snagggers though.
I like the cop thing better than that....you had 3 witnesses and the first guy who left right away may have had previous experience with these guys.

As stated before, keeping it in the running position lets the water drain. Water in motor + freezing temp = bad.
Make a good habit of putting it vertical in the driveway. That way you will never get caught by freezing weather and 100% water.
Oh...and leave it in neutral.

take it for a spin....show him cash and tell him he gets a sale tonight if it tests good.
put on the bill he signs..."no known defects"
the boat looks real nice.

As far as the boat goes.
-If the boat resides in Ontario it needs Ontario numbers, with those numbers you get a slip of paper you need that too.
-You need the bill of sale (proof of ownership)
-You need to make attempts to aquire the Hull sticker (capacity).
Did you pay the taxes?

If you are buying used beware of leaks...do some internet work, they are a pain to repair.

Casting another vote for "not worth it". The fish tank is cool and if you get there on the day they have a sale on big items you want then it feels good. But 4 hours to get there? nah. Shop online with Lebaron's and BPS.

negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. Check US prices for the same product.
Maybe he has done so already: Its his purchase but he should research the substantial differences between the 2 and 4 stroke.
About Legend packages being notoriously under powered:
The package probably is under powered but your friend may not care and have just as much fun getting around at 20 MPH has he does 40mph. There are other consequences too (I am not an authority) but I would ask in a separate thread what they are. Most everyone will say "get the most engine you can afford", I do not agree with that. Check out CCMT's posts too....he has a smaller boat and catches a TON of fish on Lake Ontario and others.
Get your buddy to get the weight of the boat and get the prop selector chart from the dealer, its at the front of the motors service manual....it will rate the motor on a chart with prop pitches/weights/speeds. Post the info if you post a motor power question.

I do not have an opinion or Legend other than they look nice.
I do haev an opinion on the motor....how much more is a 4 stroke?

Sounds like gasoline fumes igniting to me, starting the inboard without turning the blower on?
If you read the article the first explosion happened after he bent over and flipped the ignition. It is obvious that gas released from an earlier meal caused the initial explosion that then ruptured the boats gas tank and blew it up.

Call your ISP and ask for their assistance.
With the Exception of Bell/Sympatico I have found that ISPs are very good at talking clients through this specific issue.

I was reading Mike the Pike's story of getting spooled with 30lb test on the reel:
http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23225
1) set the drag correctly before casting and know the setting so it can be dialed back later.
2) Chase the fish. Salt water guys do this but I suspect that small aluminums should be left to be pulled around.
Not everyone is going to run 80lb test so what are some good ways to keep the line on the spool?

just because people are looking for non-evacues does not mean the non-evacuees are missing.
who is saying people are missing?
