I got bit by a spider and had a bad reaction once. The infected area was about 6 inches in diameter, was raw, itched like crazy and continually grew a thin translucent scab over it. This lasted for 2 weeks and ruined a fishing trip for me. Very unpleasant.
Mine was way worse than that pic too.
See a doctor. Now.

colour blind as in only sees in black and white or colour blind as in there is a few colours he cannot distinguish apart? For less than $200 though colour is not on the shopping list
Popular models with good reviews, all have 320x320 resolution:
lowrance x97 at $200
Eagle Fishmark 320 ($170 at radio world)
Humminbird 717 $200
At less resolution and very inexpensive the Eagle Cuda 168 can be had for less than $100 new.
me? I was too cheap and bought a used one for my first FF a humminbird 525....

If it was too easy what would be the point? I can go to a fish farm for a good spot.
Good spots are for close fishing friends and long traveling strangers.

The MTO people are a real pain in the butt so know when they are supposed to do before going.
Get the trailer and boat on seperate bills.
Do the RIV stuff online it will be quicker. Check out RIV.ca
Canadian compliance label is no longer required. But, the feds say you should ask the boat manufacturer for one.

The motor should no pull to the right...a trim tab adjustment can fix that.
As for the prop....post a pic.

Wow, intense stuff. Water spouts seem to be everywhere in the NE.
Any idea what happened to those boats in the pic?

IF the storms let up I am planning on a Scugog evening fish and figure that lake drainage/filling is going to play a factor. I am guessing that it flows in from North and North East of Ceserea and flows out where by Highway 7/canals.
OR
should I just wait a few more days?

This is my first year out on the boat. The lightning has certainly kept me from fishing as much as I have wanted to.
Now....if I lived on a lake that would be a different story because I would be out during all of the lightning breaks or fishing figure out someway to set up a lightning rod somewhere around the dock.

List of places that do not have transducer mounting plates:
Lebarons
Bass Pro (Canada)
Gagnons
Tightline
Cabelas does have them, a marine shop might have them.
Most guys are saying: go to Canadian Tire they cutting boards...$10 not on sale.
I build a brace, but the brace does not work when doing more than 15mph.

rusted hook + punctured skin = health hazard
rusted hook + strong fish = broken hook
chest waders + chest waders = health hazard
put your equipment in a floating rig and trail it along behind you.
ever think of getting a kayak, fishing tube or floatcat? Chest high is kinda iffy. I have sunk a couple of feet while on what I thought was a solid bottom.

If the value of your house is increasing, why would you think you'd pay insurance on what you'd pay for it?
That doesn't make much sense. You should be paying insurance on the fair market value of the house.
Who said my house increaes
At the time of purchase the insurance quoted as almost 3 times what it was worth (the contents have little value). I bought the house 3 years ago, it has barely increased in market value. I guess if my house blew up and demolished my neighbors house the rebuild cost for both houses would be what they quoted.
The original posters point is.....who is going to do a total rebuild on a house boat when it is cheaper to buy new?
I bet the insurance company won't. They are simply gouging people. Is there a way around this? (and please do not say "shop around")

My house insurance is the same way...rebuild cost is almost 3 times the purchase price.
I don't get it.

you serious? i see a bunch of boats in driveways within walking distance of your place..
Hence the call to the town.

Typically obscure language. Some planning departments might argue enthusiastically that a boat on a trailer is not a part of a normal household. That kind of language must be interpreted any way the planning department wants to interpret it, and if you don't like their interpretation you could appeal to the OMB I suppose.

Good info John.
If boats are not normal I wonder how my town would explain the nice big boat launch they built....200m away from an existing nice big boat launch?

There are similar by-laws in many towns. My understanding is that where I live, they will only enforce it if someone complains about it sitting there. Good luck....
I looked up the local bylaws to see what they said....not a word about boats in good operating condition not being allowed. The only thing I saw close to it was 'only vehicles that are part of normal home dwelling' were allowed.....a boat is certainly normal. Did I miss something?

SORRY BUD CANT COMPLYI will fish around whatever dock holds fish. Sorry buddy. Keep goin' north if you don't want to see other people when you reach your cottage.
I think the guys point could be that its a big big big lake. There is a ton of structure and fish around and he has about the only dock. Be friendly; leave the guy in peace if he is visibly around. Your about as welcome and effective as a door to door salesman at his cottage or a boat to boat salesman at your boat while your fishing.

I think you will most spinning reels these days have a 5.2 to 1 ratio. However a lot of the taking up line slack is done by the rod as you are reeling too.... longer the rod the faster the uptake of the line. I tend to lift the rod as I am reeling then when I feel tension I set the hook.
I am doing that but its taking a lot longer than I would like. A longer rod is in the plans but I was hoping to get another foot or two more from a big spool or a quantum baitcaster "burner" (7:1) type spinning reel.

After a slow afternoon waiting for the evening to arrive and loosing 2 good fish shortly after the hook-set we finally hooked into a decent fish. While I was getting us into position with the trolling motor my buddy said "where is your bobber?" I felt a tug, set the hook but was confused for about 10 seconds and I reeled in and mistook his bobber for mine. I thought I hooked up his line. For 5 full seconds I was thinking? Why is he pulling so hard if we are snagged up?
On ultra-light tackle and 4lb test I had my hands full with this guy. He took one BIG vertical jump and at least 3 decent runs and I had acrobatically run to the front of the boat and around to keep him from getting hooked up on the motor and boat.
On the downside I failed to check my line before hooking into another smaller fish that promptly snapped my line after about 30 seconds.
The only other fished I bothered measuring was a 22+ inch SMB and this one....this one is 4lb 6oz. unknown length, notice the lack of arm stretch/optical illusion.

I hear a lot of people say "use nothing less than 80lb flouro for pike or musky"
So what is the 20lb-80lb flouro good for?
-
wow.
doesn't that lake have any small fish?
-
I think a lot depends on the size of the body of water and how often you have to return to the bush to get to the next spot.
I am having a problem with a short rod and line management at the moment (see my post on reel recommendations).
If you can get away with a short rod or are in tight quarters then short rod is the way to go....they are fun too.

I currently have a few spinning reel setups and need to improve on the ultralight -> light tackle.
The issue with my current setup is that it takes 4 or 5 turns to take up line slack before I can use the rod to dig the hook in.
So, I think what I am looking for is reel with high gear ratio, fat spool and 7oz, or so, and less, and, of course a smooth drag and easy bail roll over.
Any good ideas on how I can improve my setup (new reel for now)?

How big is that largie?
Judging by the colour of your GF sweater: Its chartreuse big. that is bigger than pink big, but, smaller than polka dot big.
I have mentioned measuring by water displacement before....how much did the lake go down when you pulled out the fish?

My new Boat

It might be a good boat.
It might be a bad boat.
It might be a good trailer.
It might be a bad trailer.
It might be too small for the type of fishing you do.
It might run too deep for the fishing you do.
It might be a good fishfinder
It might not be a good fishfinder
Did anyone read this far?
