I aint moving anythang, It,s my rule to all that think my truck is a moving company. I need a cap Raf, LOL

I was about to post the same thing! With my tonneau it's hard to say no, with a cap I can just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and say sorry!

My ice fishing sleds (yes plural, and no, not the kind with a motor) barely fit under the tonneau now. If I ever got a snowmobile/atv I'd put it on a trailer. I think the real barrier is just cost. If I used it to sleep in often enough it would be worth it. If not, maybe not.

A.R.E has a "build your own" app on their site (http://www.4are.com). I put in a request for quote for kicks. I'll share it when I get it from them.

  2. The problem with the truck tents as I see it is you have to take everything out of the truck first to set it up. A FlipPac would be great if I were building an expedition truck. I just want to throw an old air mattress in the back. Never slept in one though so not sure what the cons are.

  3. Just looking for some opinions from cap people. I have a 2015 Silverado with the Undercover Flex Tonneau cover. It's a low profile trifold and it's pretty convenient. I'm happy with it but it's not going to last forever.

The main reason I'm looking at caps is the ability to sleep in one. Anyone use theirs for sleep? I'm curious if it's worth it because caps are crazy expensive.

  4. I've got the 3.42 gears set in my Silverado and no complaints towing. I'm not towing 5500lbs though. I'd estimate my boat at around 3500lbs(?) and it'll haul no problem. I also know there's a big difference between a bass boat and a big square RV trailer!

My boat is around 1500 pounds and I can barely tell it's there. I think I'd feel 5500 though. I don't mind the 3.08 because 98% of my mileage isn't towing.

  5. A little perspective. I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 4x4 with the 5.3L (355hp, 385 pounds of torque). Because I have 3.08 gears, it's only rated to pull 6200 pounds (which is fine for me I'll never tow that much).

    BUT

Some say it's best to stay under 80% of max tow for the longevity of the vehicle. 80% of 6200 is 4960. So if I were towing across Canada I could do it with my truck, but I'd think twice. Anything less than that and you're asking for expensive repairs and/or a vehicle with a shortened lifespan.

Just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.

Edited to add: I couldn't afford the gas to tow 5500# across Canada either. Go diesel.

  6. I just bought a Wilderness Radar 115. More options than I now what to do with such available options such as pedal and electric motor. But I just want to paddle. I had it up to Georgian Bay last weekend and it was great on the water. A super comfortable seat. You are not gonna win any speed races, but it is very stable and it tracks pretty good. Nice and wide at 34.5 ". It weighs 82 lbs. 10'8" long. I have a Ram 1500 with crew cab, so short box. With the tailgate down it hangs over a foot or two so I just strap it down and put a small flag on it. I haven't fished with it, but so far I'm pleased with it. Andy

Andy the Perception I am looking at is made by Wilderness Systems and has a nearly identical seat so that's good info. I have heard a lot of good things about the Air Pro seats.

  7. I have one of those. :)

The bed extenders are awesome for carrying kayaks.

My buddy uses one for his Hobie Pro Angler 14.

He handles it himself and it is a 110# kayak. I have a Honda Pilot and put mine on the roof rack.

There is no way I could get a PA up there as the Pescador is about my limit.

If you need to carry it a distance from the vehicle to the water get yourself a kayak cart so you can just roll it there.

I've heard the bed extenders work quite well so that's my plan for now. I like the "j style" carriers but I don't have a roof rack.

A quick to install and cheap ladder rack would be great but most I've seen won't work with my tonneau or are very expensive.

One of my worries with the Pescador is it's rated to about 350 pounds and I'm already 220 of it. I'm wondering if it will sit low in the water and be harder to paddle. I suppose I'll figure that out with with the demo....

  8. Much as the electric motors look cool on a kayak, I'm not about to butcher my Terrova to make it fit!

I figure if I want to bring people or hit big water I'll just use my boat. I want to use the kayak to connect more with nature and try to fish less busy waters.

I do feel like weight will be a consideration at the end of a long day when I have to hoist it up onto my truck. I really like the Wilderness Systems ATAK 140 but it's near on a hundred pounds. Not sure I want to deal with that.

  9. Hey guys, I'm heading up north for the Labor day weekend and leaving the boat behind. I've been really curious about kayak fishing and managed to arrange a demo for the weekend.

Before I buy i thought I'd ask all the 'Yak fishers from the board for a few tips. For example:

What you wish you knew before you bought?

What is too heavy? (The kayak I'm demo'ing is a Perception Pescador Pro 12' and weighs around 60#)

Is 12' too short? Is 14' too heavy?

How do you carry it? I have a pickup and leaning towards a "bed extender" type carrier....

I'm sure there's more I'll need to know, help a brother out OFC!

    Thanks

    Dutch

  10. I have a pretty heavy right foot and my driving is mixed stop and go on the way to work, and then highway miles to go fishing on the weekend.

My "lie-o-meter" (trip odometer B ) shows a 56,722 km average of 15.5 L/100km. I don't care too much if that's better or worse than another truck as I love my Chevy and it's a truck not a Corolla.
