thanks guys, ya thats the reason i kept the small ones and released the big ones, they just don't compare in taste, let the bigger ones spawn. Definitely a good fishery.

Ideal float rod length for eastern tribs
BowSlayer101 replied to redpearl99's topic in General Discussion
it's not necessarily too long, theres just no need for it, where as on a g-bay trib you need the extra length for fighting the fish, casting, drifting the float further out, etc. On most eastern ditches, the creek is as long as an 11'6 rod so no need for 13'6, if you're fishing the headwaters, then i would definitely go 11'6, just so much easier. -
111.9 in Bancroft! 137.9 in Newmarket

lol, was seriously considering that after walking around 2 km's, with soaking wet boots but that would've been the "smart thing to do" haha.

thanks man! ya boots are still wet, haha, next year I'm getting baffin titans.......

Ideal float rod length for eastern tribs
BowSlayer101 replied to redpearl99's topic in General Discussion
13'6 is the most common length for float rods. For g-bay tribs i use a 13'6 stream side tranquility, for the eastern ditches, i use an 11'6. -
yesterday i had the chance to head up north early in the morning for lakers, for what looks to be my last ice trip. We got there early and the preferable launch was busted, we could've made it on but probably wouldn't be able to make it off later. So we went and hit another launch, no one on the ice, slushy as heck but we just had to go. Watching every step as we went, we finally passed the broken up ice and got onto the safe ice. We decided to leave the auger at home and just take a couple buckets and find some holes, well it was tough but we did find a couple holes, 75 feet, blank screen for 3 hours then something hits, seems like a whitie, tension on the line, i reel up, then it just stops and i can't gain on it, like a brick or something, then he starts peeling and bam, off, just like that! I was pissed but what can you do, hit another area of the bay, 1 foot of slush made it really hard and annoying to walk but we got to the preferred location. Transducer in the hole, we mark no fish, after some running from hole to hole i find a red mark, bingo! Grab the gold williams spoon and a medium heavy rod, a few fast rips up and the rod bends to the hole, drag starts screaming and excitement gaining, got him up a few feet then off, no clue how, it was a big laker thats for sure. Then a set lien goes off and the bait caster falls in the hole, luckily i run up just in time to grab the rod and land a nice laker, not too big but certainly above average, unhook him and down he goes. After that we landed around 20 lakers each, multiple double headers, nothing like I've ever seen before. Released the bigger ones since we had fish at home already and kept some of the smaller ones. We had some weird bites that would hit up, peel drag and come of, no matter how hard we set the hook, i even tried setting it twice, still come off every dang time, i have a feeling our rods were too soft and line to stretch, will try braid in the open water season on for sure. We kept a couple small fish each, released the bigger ones, the ones that were coming off seemed very big, above 8 pounds for sure, they would just stand there like a log and we wouldn't be able to gain ANY line on them, i tried horsing one in but he ripped the line, no clues what these fish were, i have a feeling there were a couple whities and big lakers involved and one ling for sure, its funny you can tell right away when you have a ling on. Here are some pics of the day, the rod with the yellow tip is a medium/heavy, you can see the ned in that rod, then the would just come off. Lots of seagulls on the ice that would circle around us and try to steal our minnows, lol.[/url[/url[/url[/url[/url[/url[/url[/url[/url[/url

you can buy them but you can't catch a sturgeon and take the eggs. -
27lbs of illegal sturgeon eggs !! Busted!!!
BowSlayer101 replied to fishindevil's topic in General Discussion
should have been fined waaay more IMO, they could have sold those eggs illegally, which they most likely would, they would easily make $250 for 100 gram of roe, they had 27 pounds of the stuff! You be the judge, i think a 3-5 years ban would be fair but they would most likely keep fishing illegally. -
good isn't the word, i prefer them over lakers!

thanks man, they're fun for sure!

Hey guys, i haven't posted a report in a while, due to not having much spare time but i thought i would post a few pics of my last two outing on lake joe. One was last weekend for lakers, we got quite a few and i kept my limit, one around 23, the other 22, lost some bigger ones and released a ton of smaller ones. The other and most recent outing was this past sunday, the initial plan was to head out in the morning for lakers, than head over for some crappies. Due to some problems with the rear drive shaft on our vehicle, we couldn't do that. We couldn't take the other car either because it was already in use and we weren't about to throw away a few thousand in a garage. So we drove all over Toronto, picked up the pice we needed, than set out to work, in about 3 hours and all of the oil leaking out and us re-filling it, we finally fixed the problem and set out to Muskoka. We picked up minnows around 7 and were on the lake by 7:30, knowing it would be dark in less than a half hour, we got right down to business. We had forgotten the power auger at home along with the fish finder so we were fishing blind, after some holes, and setting up a set line, i walk over to my jigging rod with the williams attached to it, which was about 20 metres up from the bottom. I pick it up and feel a weight but its barely fighting, i reel up, only to find a laker that inhaled the 4" spoon with only the know sticking out of its mouth. That was it for the lakers as well as for fishing in daylight, i turned on the flashlight and switched to glow jigs, keeping a close eye on my UL rod with a batboy and a tube, the rod falls, i set the hook and after a long exciting battle, i land the biggest ling I've seen from joe! Shortly after i got the smallest ling I've ever seen! After that we released somewhere around 20 ling and left around 3 am. All in all it was a fun couple of weeks and i hope for one more ice outing before putting a beating on the crappies![/url[/url[/url[/url[/url

hey guys, i was at lake joe this morning out for lakers and lost my tackle box on the ice, it was a rectangular transparent box with some lures, micro jigs, small red trebles and a few sinkers, i must've left it a the spot, or it fell out on the way to the launch, pm me for more details, if you know anything about it, thanks for looking, cheers. . Edit: if returned safely, reward will be given.

Nottawasaga Navigable water way ?
BowSlayer101 replied to Rustic-Fisher's topic in General Discussion
lol, i let most of them go, but keep one to eat every ounce in a while, especially if they're from the g-bay tribs and are small, anyways, thats not the point, she had no right to be telling me what to do, i can keep a fish if i want, I'm under my possession limit and i don't keep rainbows all that often. I was just pi$$ed at the lady for telling me what to do, didn't care much for releasing the fish, i can get another if i want to. -
Nottawasaga Navigable water way ?
BowSlayer101 replied to Rustic-Fisher's topic in General Discussion
theres a lady like that on the pine, a nice rainbow dragged me into the lower part of the river last fall and i was wading the river, i landed the fish and she made me release it, because apparently the river is her property and she will call the cops if i keep the fish, next time ill wait for the cops to show up! -
definitely, one lake they'll only hit a micro jig for me and the other they'll hit bass bait size rubber crayfish, however in the spring i find they hit anything as long as you're on them, or at least thats how its been for me,
-
i fish mostly from shore and my spots are hardly known, the most I've seen is 2 guys there and i knew both. You just gotta search for spots like that, in between boat channels, etc.
-
i like the Fins minnows as well, I've had good success with a small buckshot under a float as well, as mentioned above, the crappies will usually hit anything they can fit into their mouths in the spring, I've caught them on spinners, crank baits, jigs, pretty much everything, experiment a little, sometimes i find only the small ones will hit the tubes or minnows so i try a spinner, sometimes its the opposite, all part of the fun!
-
thanks for the kind words!!, at the spot i was on ice varied from 30-35" and there was a truck that passed me, you can park on the ice for sure, ice is still very very thick!
-
i just boiled them, then fried them like i would normally fry any other fish, some flour, pepper, salt, and sometimes milk and eggs. The hardest part for me is cleaning them, hard to get the skin off nicely to do the fillet, always have some meat go off wight he skin, lol. Make sure you are there early, big lakers in the morning then after noon just little guys up to 24" i found that fishing deeper produces bigger fish and they are in big quantities, saw lots of herring go by, darn things wouldn't bite though!
-
Haha, thanks Gino, those ling sure were tasty!

i don't know about a down rigger but I've used dipsey divers and 3 way swivels with great success, i doth know how you're gonna mount a down rigger on a kayak, lol.
