  1. In my opinion you are better off with 2 transducers. The one on the TM will give you a picture of what is nearest to you and the other when you are running the big motor. When you are running the big motor the picture on the console finder will be from right under the rear of the boat when you are sitting still to some where behind the boat depending on water depth and your speed. It takes some time for the signal to go from the transducer to the bottom and back; how far back depends on depth and boat speed. My boat is 19 feet and at plane I lose the back signal at some water depth. As I recal I lose signal on the console finder at something over 100' of water depth. They can interfere with each other depending on the tranducers distance a part, depth and boat speed.
  2. If I were you and could get the 320 pix into my budget I would for the reasons Tomcat expressed.
  3. I personally think smaller pike are as good as pickerel except for the difficulty in cleaning to remove the Y bones. I don't pretend to be expert at the cleaning but I struggle along and get it done. I fry the parts just like I would pickerel and I don't keep larger pike or large anything else. There used to be a method of cleaning them shown on Fishing Minnesota I haven't gone there inquite a while so I'm not sure if it still exists.
  4. I put a fly rod in the boat for that time of year and a few brownish dries and nymphs. A bonus are whitefish that feed on the mayflies. I have also had success with small crappie jigs in brownish tones. I would be prepared but not let the possibility of a major hatch change my plans. Over my many years of going to Canada I have been affected by weather a lot more than the mayfly hatch.
  5. I'd go to Bass Pro, tell clerk how and what I fished for, what I wanted to spend and ask him to put reels on rods with the combo matching my price. Then I'd buy the one that felt the best in my hand. I agree on the number of bearings. A baitcaster need a brg on each end of the spool, maybe one on the gear and the instant reverse All the others are fluff that possibly make the reel smoother. I haven't figured any reason for bearing in spinning outfits. None of their shafts ever turn at any high speed.
  6. I live in NH now and in 2006 we went to Temagami which is about 60 miles north of North Bay. When I lived in Gobles we went to Namakan Lake on the ON/MN border. When I moved out here I quit that for a few years then went back for two weeks trips to make the fishing days more in line with the travel days. Place where we stayed in Western ON closed in 2005 which is one of the reasons I was looking at Dog Lake.
  7. I asked the same question a year or two ago and never got a response. Do you live in Kalamazoo? I lided in Gobles and Kalamazoo quite a while back
  8. When I get home my wife asks 2 questions, 1) How was the fishing and 2) How was the catching. Answer to 1) Is good 99% of the time, but @ Varies with the day.
  9. I can understand that they didn't want him infringing on their trademark but it looked to me like a natural for them to jump on his wagon and put together a sponsership agreement. I don't know Tim Horton, the bass fisherman, but every thing I have heard and seen he is a class act.
  10. Based on the size of your boat I would guess it is rated for 150HP or more. I'd go with a 150 Optimax. You will run at lower rpm at the same speed and use less fuel. In the boat reviews I have read the new generation 2 strokes are darn near as fuel efficient as the 4 strokes plus you have the advantage of lighter weight to push and the reliability of many years of improvements in the 2 strokes. In a big motor used mainly for speed I wouldn't even think of a 4 stroke. A 75 hp or less would be a different issue.
  11. You might do a search for Booi's. I haven't been there but friendshave gone for years and always said good things about it. It is in NW Ontario.
  12. Remove the handle as follows: Tighten the star drag as far as possible. Hold the star drag towards the reel body. Unscrew the reel handle. This is a bit cumbersome but it does the job. I service mine every year.
  13. Nice look but I only have dial up available and the load time is slightly slower than a glacier. Any ideas on how to speed it up?
