  1. Is seems that there are a few people being presumptuous on the facts in this case and calling this guy a dumb ass. Are people assuming that they know the risk the guy was taking when he went in the water? Is everyone who gets attacked by a bear or a shark or dies in a plane a dumb ass? Calling that guy a dumb ass in ignorance is low end. Maybe someone can present some facts? stuntman
  2. Is this about that pic of the large Muskie that could/t be revived? It was not offensive to me. The presentation was a little weird, but, it did show a pretty big fish head. Maybe there should be a poll on this. Is it only a few loud whiners that are complaining about the PIC? I don't see the difference between that and showing a string of dead or dying fish. Stuntman
  3. Buying from US, still left with a couple of quesitons: NYS has an 8% sales tax....will they refund it? How about Michigan? Does GST and PST apply to a used boat too? How about a motor? Are the US warranties the same as the Canadian ones? Would getting someone from the states bring it up here and sell the boat to me on this side of the border work? stuntman
  4. I will cross my fingers and say 91. Come on 91!
  5. Hi PikeHunter, I think the point has been missed. There are 2 different sets of boat ratings. One for persons limit and one of total limit. The persons limit seems conservative and I would like to understand how it is derived. Boating experience will ultimately demonstrate what is safe. As for buying a bigger boat, that will hold more, that is easier said than done; boat capacity does not go up a whole lot until you move to a different class of boat, a $15, 000+ boat and new vehicle to tow it is not in my plans. I could buy a bigger flat bottom boat with a higher rating, but that wouldn't necessarily be safer. Ultimately the safest thing would be not to go in a boat, but what fun is that? Stuntman
  6. What was your boat rated for according to the spec plate on the boat? If the boat is rated for 1000lbs by Lund and I have a 100lb motor on it I may want to bring a couple of my buddies out. 3 people would weigh about 650-700lbs, and that exceeds the boat limit as is posted on the governments spec plate. Yes, I want to be able to excced the plate limit. No I do not want to exceed what is safe for the boat. Stuntman
  7. I thought that the US ratings would be higher too, but, found that they were the same on all the small aluminums I looked at. I only looked at 5 small aluminums. US ratings may be higher for other types of boats. Stuntman
  8. Hey guys Glen and GCD sound pretty accurate to me, Glen, your boat sounds like it has the same ratings as the one in my example. I don't have a boat plate to photograph for you the thread. Lund WC 14 weighs 285lbs: Max weight rating in brochure: 1000lbs 25HP motor (the max): 185lbs (max) but a 9.9 could be 100lbs. gas and motor oils: 15lbs (guess) persons capacity on boat plate: 600lbs Total of all 3 above: 800lbs That means 200lbs is left over for equipment. Thats a lot of equipment. I guess the 600lbs is just an educated guess. People don't distribute their weight properly, people don't weigh their equipment and having a conservative weight limit makes it easier to tell someone that by taking them on they would be exceeding safe limits of the boat. Has anyone ever got a warning or a citation for exceeding their boats rated weight? Stuntman
  9. OK. So why does the official tag on the boat say 600lbs? Is that to gauge for bad water conditions that occur X times in 10 years? If Lund says it will hold 1000lbs does that mean it will sink at 1200lbs? Stuntman
  10. I a little confused about how much people weight a boat will take. For example: Lund WC 14 Tiller is rated by Lund to be 1000lbs capacity The US and Canadian safety ratings that are stamped onto the boat say 600lbs So, for insurance purposes does that mean that if something goes wrong with more than 600lbs on board I am in trouble? Will I get a ticket from the water cops for having more than 600lbs on board? I asked a Lund dealer and they were not much help. any help here? Stuntman
  11. Why does Matt keep bringing the boat back to the same place for repair? There must be other authorized service places that will do the warranty work. Can anyone recommend one? Who does Mercury recommend off the record? Stuntman
  12. OK....8ft handle (plus net dimensions). check! make sure I can add an extension laster. check! Any particular brand name, is it important? Stuntman
  13. Yeah, this is kinda a dumb question. I am unable to use the search function for other threads on this because the search terms are too broad, so please bear with me: I need a net. A long handled net for fishing salmon and trout off of the southern Ontario piers; Oshawa, Port Hope etc. and I dont know: -Most nets have 48" handles and that seems to short to me. how long the handle should be? -How small is too small for the net opening? It would really stink catching a fish with only a useless net to bring it up with. Any help? Stuntman
  14. Can someone replace that pic of the Lund hat for the one of the muskie head please
  15. Hey All, All the fuss was: - link to non-government domain -no documentation on how the link was obtained. Was the poster was in the know about such things or did they just google it? -people get gouged everyday -the information posted was not verifiable on its own, more info could have been posted. The proper way to communicate the info, in my opinion came later in the thread: disagree if you like, but, now the person asking for the information now has information he can trust. Its a public forum, not everyone is right 100% of the time and proper answers are rarely communicated on the first go. Stuntman
  16. Yeah...thats a pretty good rant....where was the service center? Legend didn't make the motor or authorize the dealer for motor repair. There is no doubt your motor was in the hands of someone with a very low skill set and low work ethic. Write the motor and boat companies and the dealer. My advice is to deal with the motor dealer and CC the other 2. While the letter is in the mail get on the phone to them, take names, numbers and notes. Treat this like its a business and you will get there. good luck, hope its stress free. Stuntman
  17. Good job by the conservation and police guys. How does one catch 130 more than the legal limit? Certainly not by rod and reel. Stuntman
  18. Scam Alert!! Well more like a dont pay too much warning. The site linked by the previous post is not a not end with a .gov designation. Have you ever seen those Canadian citizenship ads that are not from the Canadian gov't: 'for only $50 you can have a citizenship application'. The applications are actually free. The person selling the application is scamming (in Toronto no less!!!). Here is a link to the NYS gov't site that has the rates posted: http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6091.html Stuntman
  19. What happened to the pic?
  20. Thanks to boatman I checked out Van and Truck World in Oshawa for my hitch installation I got a class 1 "hidden hitch" brand installed with wiring. Unlike CT and Uhaul they were not gouging me. I checked out Jensens on Bloor as well. It took a couple of installers 45 min to install for 1.5 hours labour. CT was quoting 2+1/2 hours and they were not the most expensive. I don't have a trailer to test the wiring yet but Van and Truck World does a ton of hitches so I am confident all will be good. I would recommend them to anyone (who I like ) Stuntman

  22. You now have to catch 3 salmon for every one you lost. OK, so you have a bunch of tips, you can never have too many; some of this is basic stuff: -UV and extreme heat kills mono. Keep it off your cars rear windows ledge. -a short rod is OK but you have to pay attention and be quick on the action so your line stays taught but lets out before your rod maxs out. With tension 10lbs on a short rod is the same as 10lbs on a long rod. So if you have no cash, don't worry about it, you wont land them all but it will still be fun. -don't crank your rod up. 90 degrees line to rod is th max angle -you did not say what your broken line looked like. Different breaks can result from different causes. -you tightened your drag (you said you knew it was wrong). I set my drag while the rod has a full load, then back it off a bit to compensate for extra drag as the line gets played out, unperfect knots and other wear and tear. -braided line will wear out your rod guides unless they are setup to handle it. -blah blah blah...the other posts took care of just about everything else.....say, you are using a swivel. -aren't there other posts on line? Stuntman
  23. oh no a boat war....as long as a boat is solid, I dont care much.....there are a few models I am keeping my eyes open for. stuntman
  24. There have been a couple of all tackle records for Sturgeon from Georgian bay. I remember there was one abot 25 years ago and this site has another one posted: http://www.canadian-sportfishing.com/Natio...h_And_Keep1.asp stuntman
  25. Hey guys, still looking for my first boat. Misted an alumacraft with motor that sutied me well and a heavy duty crestliner that was too far to travel for. I have see an early 90's Lund utility boat with a good motor. Are the older Lunds solid? I know I have had a few posts on buying a bot here. I hope is OK to ask this type of stuff here, I know you guys have some knowledge and experience with boats. thanks, stuntman
