-
you didnt catch a 'ski in Spider or Clear lake... were you in open water? that would be a shocker! I'll be up thataway as well, may make the portage in, keep your eyes peeled for a red coleman with a minn kota boyz!! tight lines!

ive got a place down the road and go pretty often. Havent made the trek this year though... ive yet to land a laker or a eye in that water, lead core trolling has landed me a 20lb pike and the bass are easy enough to find, but apparently not the lakers or walleye. apparently it was stocked quite a few years back but i dont believe they took very well. PLEASE let me know if you hook into any, would surely fuel my hunt on Spider L. good luck

i use stashed boats often as well... i dont see a problem as long as the person borrowing treats it as their own. ive seen others use em n leave em abused and tuned the guys up pretty good for it. blows my mind how little respect people have for others property man! i like the orange spraypaint idea, unfortunately, not my canoes to paint, but ill surely tell the owner to consider it.

i rented a cottage there a few years back, maybe ten years ago. had some success with lakers drifting the middle ripping bucktails tipped with minnows mid summer they are sitting on bottom big bass in that lake though!

thats OFFSIDE a little tact may be in order here.

no problem at all, most the people up there were lucky enough to have their own boats! actually, its a real pain trying to find the site map for french River P.P. you have to buy the map from the park for $15 OR do what i did and go to the Mountain Equipment Co-op store downtown and take a look at the map there. all you need to do is reference the site numbers with the bays/inlets you want to stay at and then reference them with the folks you register with....yeah i know, im CHEAP lolol beautiful country up that way

Hi Rob, I was with Mike on the French last weekend. Its a great spot, beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife. Riverview Cottages is located in Dokis (East of 69 off HWY 64) about 420km from T.O. Riverview is registered with Ontario Parks, so when reserving backcountry spots on that section of the French you've got to see them first. Problem is you cannot reserve a spot in advance, first come first serve only. Makes for quite a gamble when coming from the city! Depends on the time of year your going, if you call they will give you an idea of availability. If your renting a boat OR considering cottaging up thataways i HIGHLY reccomend that you visit our freind Brian at CasaBlanca lodge. He will pick you up from the riverview marina and take you to his island for cottaging or boat rentals. The fishing was slow this time around but the water was COOOLLLLDDDD, the fish are there though! one of the americans staying at Casablanca landed a 53"er and a 40" let me know if you have more Q's tight lines! the thought of ANY ONE of our members interpreting these racial undertones and agression as anything less than dispicable is disturbing to me. I'd start tossin my believer into his boat if i ever saw anything like that! hope the fine the pants off of em!

i havent had luck at this park either... i was told the same and get skunkd everytime! I have watched some "Whitebucket" action at the back of the marina where the walkway streches around the back to a point. Dude fishing with worms catchin crappie, rockbass, etc. funny you mention the trout...i to have seen them cruise the marina, no biters though. please let me know if you have any more luck...

Hi All, Headed to canal lake on the trent this weekend... was hoping to try my luck at some walleyes, they can be elusive in there at times. Lots of weeds, shallow lake, would my best bet be to fish a drop shot type rig with maybe gulp leeches on that lakes weedlines etc? any advice/tips appreciated

i tore my acl and cartilage playin hockey, most painful injury OF ALL TIME!! trust me! your supposed to keep it relatively mobilized before and after surgery...i had to pay about $400 for a brace that limited the range of movement but did let me swing it a bit... i was on cruches for over ten weeks though and physio for bout 6 months... they will zap her knee once or twice a knee to stimulate the muscles since she wont be able to do much on it, this way it avoids muscle atrophy wish her all the best and a speedy recovery, and DO STAY ACTIVE/MOBILE for a speedy recovery

is this true????! i thought it was only for motors over 10hp? your telling me i need one for the minn kota!? WOW what about boat rentals?? do u need the card to rent one now to??
-
It depends on the quality of battery you purchase... I bought the Marine battery, think its called "Nautilis"?? from CTC. If im alone on the canoe, it will last me around 6 hours (im usually only trolling at speeds 2 or 3), the more you stop and go, the quicker it will drain. I have used mine to troll for lakers on back lakes as well, as long as you keep a nice steady troll and avoid the stop and go it should last AT LEAST 5 hours. be sure to drain the batt all the way before re charging to increase its lifespan (Those batteries arent cheap!)

thanks Garry!! good stuff

I mount it right to the side of the canoe, just behind my seat. hopefully the motor has a telescopic handle and you can stretch it out in front of you. The closer the motor is to the back of the canoe, the easier it will be to manouver. You wont need any special mounts, i just put pieces of wood on either side of the bracket to ensure it clamps on flush. if the batt cable can stretch to the front of the canoe, problem solved, otherwise i would suggest a bucket half full of sand to keep the nose down. my minn kota is, i think, 35ft/lbs of thrust and she boogies a hell of a lot faster than i can paddle her! if your is kevlar it prolly motors even more! good luck!
-
i mount my minn kota to the side of my canoe all the time, never had an issue with the weight dispersion. just slow down if your makin a sharp turn and put a pail of sand in the front when flying solo. works like a charm!
-
i hate paddlin as much as the next dude, but wouldnt do that! i hooked up a 32lb thrust minnkota to my 90lb coleman canoe and it MOTORS on my backlakes, not neaRly as much of a weight issue to deal with. the only canoes ive seen with outboards are the old colemans with the flat back minnkota goin for less than $200 at CTC n basspro

noticed the uselful tip earlier re. spinner baits and wanted to share one that i saw on Musky Hunter... to help make your baits more weedless, he takes a drinking straw and cuts it into a three inch peice. puts a few one inch cuts on one end of the straw and fans em out. slide the straw down your main line to the top of your leader where it should be stopped (or add your own small stopper) fanned out section should be ontop (facing you as you reel in), any weeds that get caught up on your line (especially while trolling) will run down the line to the straw where the weeds will accumulate and shouldnt affect the actions of the lure as you troll. ideal with a 2 or 3 foot fluoro leader works GREAT! anyone else have some cool tips to share? amazing the stuff you see on tv or read on the board

Wow! sounds like the masses arent impressed by this stuff... why the heck is it so expensive?? im thinking of just sticking to good old power pro then, sounds like im not the only one thats been using it consistently. Do these reviews also apply to the Fireline Crystal "Round" i assume its just for casting reels. So i am back at square one! what line should i buy this year?? I want to get a little more finess in my approach, been using power pro to avoid losing lures, and possibly sacrificing lower visibility lines for tubes, texas rigging, lindy rigging for bass and walleye appreciate teh suggestions
-
I've been using power pro in a variety of pound test for a while now but am starting to think its time for a change...i've used the red and the green varieties and they seem waaay to visible underwater.
-
Lookin to switch lines this year and move from spiderwire braids to Fireline Crystal. Cronzy says its the best, anyone use it before? had bad experiences with knots etc. on the old fireline

gold fish races...ALL THE WAY a few feeder fish, a few troughs (like the ones for soaking wallpaper) and your good to go! good moneymaker too!!

ahhhh i see!.... that makes sense though, i guess they wouldnt want to be held liable for anything that could happen based on those fluctuations. So i guess i will be visiting my boy Bryan up at CasaBlance Lodge again this year, close enough to the area i have the maps for and an AWESOME host. thanks for the info Raf
