  1. Not sure of your needs but I have a refurbished HP desktop, Dell laptop and Ipad at home. I like and dislike them all for different reasons.

    Laptop

Had a few problems with the battery and fan. Backlit keyboard is nice, as is Bluetooth for a mouse so that you don't use up a USB port for a wireless transmitter.Portable but not as portable as a tablet.

    Desktop

Old school but comfortable. I like the feel of a real keyboard.

    Ipad

Portable, good battery life and many apps. Don't like using the touch screen for typing too much but you can get a Bluetooth keyboard if all you are doing is answering emails. Storage can be expanded (http://www.macworld.com/article/2904073/4-handy-options-for-adding-storage-to-your-iphone-or-ipad.html). I have a similar thing to the Sandisk option (Sandisk Media Drive) and it works well. Great for bringing movies along on a trip. They do most things that a PC does but can be issues with copying stuff from a USB or memory card (maybe impossible) and cutting and pasting text is functional but a pain.

Other tablets allow you to expand the memory.

    Happy shopping when you go.

    Jon

He posted what his needs are in the first post, has to have a dvd/cd tray, has to be able to output to a monitor/keyboard, and has to be able to run MS Office as well as other programs he has on DVD/CD, and has to be portable.

a tablet and desk top are out of the question, and he said he does not want a tablet, so not sure why people are saying tablet.

Macs are very expensive to buy, and even more expensive to repair, for the price of a mac book, you can buy a very nice windows based laptop, since macs start around $1500

  2. What the NHL did was wrong. The league and Arizona asked him to step put of the game however he wanted to play. Why? Because it's a fun weekend and he has good humour..... and he makes 500K and could possible be getting 90k extra with twins on their way to be born in Arizona. Regardless of the ASG or not, you shouldn't be trading a guy who is expecting twins shortly.

Also, the "Crosby isn't in it because of him".... even if I could pick any player from any team I still wouldn't put Crosby in this year. He's had a lackluster year and there's much better players currently then what he's showing. (Not saying they are better, he has just played not as good this year)

Yes i know that Crosby isn't in because of Scott, I just used that as a way of showing how flawed the voting system is, that how a far superior player did not get in, where a guy that barely gets any ice time gets in because a few people abused the voting system

  3. I never want to go to a party that I know I'm not really welcome. It doesn't shine a very good light on the NHL. I never really liked Betman. I don't know the guy but I know I couldn't have a guy like him work for me. A practical social media joke gone bad? Is he really that bad? When Zedeno Chiarra (sic) came into the league apparently he was a poor skater for an NHL player according to a WGR 550 discussion yesterday. He worked hard at it and has done well.

As far as a law suit, what are his real damages? Is there a bonus or game cheque for the All Star game? Maybe they paid him anyway.

He is that bad, in his career, and this is his 8th year in the league, he has 5 goals and 6 assists, in 7.5 years. he averages roughly 6min of ice time per game

  4. Good work. Home made bacon is clearly much better. When you cook it the first thing you will notice is the meat

Doesn't drop any water like store bought. It is definitely not any cheaper tho.

store bought prepacked bacon is brined, not salt cured, so basically they have a needle machine hooked up to a brine pump, they drop the needles through the rind, and inject the salt brine, which will basically be salt and water, they tend to over do it on the brine, and theres were you get a lot of loss when you cook it, as you're not only cooking off the fat, but also the water.

with the bacon we sell at the shop, it does not shrink up a whole lot.

  5. If you go onto the microsoft website, there should be something there that will tell you if your computer can handle windows 10. I think thats the issue with the Vista computers, they aren't capable of running of 10 without giving up a lot of system resources. I have a Lenovo SL510 Thinkpad, had Windows 7 pro on it, and I did the upgrade to 10 on it no issues. What it comes down to, is your computer specs

You won't lose any programs or information by doing the upgrade, theres an option during the installation process that asks you if you would like to keep your files/pictures/music/videos and whatnot

  6. Perfect, that's what I needed to hear, the butcher that I deal with gave me a couple of slabs of fresh pork fat, I usually render it down and use it for making bread and things but I was thinking I'd like to make some salt pork up for when we make pork and beans or scrunchions. I just wasn't sure how long to leave it in the salt. I have a chunk in the fridge in a ziploc bag imersed in coarse salt that has been there for about a month. Guess it should be good to go now! :clapping:

it should be good to go. the key it to keep it away from moisture, we had an issue where the tray was below a condensing coil, and the water dripped into the mixture on the defrost cycle, spoiled the entire batch, gotta keep it dry as possible

  7. and just cause one guy didnt get sick using a certain recipe doesnt mean another wont.....ive seen botulism and its not pretty

i wouldnt cold smoke without the use of curing salt

if you plan to eat the product as is, than yes, using the curing salt is advisable, BUT, if you're going to freeze it after cold smoking, and then bring it out and cook it before eating, then there is nothing wrong with not using curing salt, coarse sea salt, kosher salt, and others will work. We make our own salt pork at the shop as well, let it sit in kosher salt for 3 weeks in the cooler, vac seal it, customer buys it, takes it home, cooks with it, and all is well.

  8. Himalayan pink sea salt is the in thing these days. It is the ourest sea salt with a unique chemical makeup. It is supposed to be the healthiest salt to consume. The Nitrates in meat preservatives (pink curing salt) are known carcinogens. That is why you sometimes see Sodium Erythorbate on some packaged goods as it neutralizes the carcinogen in nitrates. Even the so called Naturally cured stuff you see in grocery stores has naturally occurring nitrates in them, they are nitrates just the same. If you do not need to use the stuff, better not to. Either freeze what you make or eat it quicker which won't be hard to do. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm......BACON!!!

even the nitrate/preservative free stuff, has a nitrate/preservative in it, the cultered celery extract is the nitrate preservative, by law it has to be there to be sold in a retail store, like I said earlier, we tried to sell the schnieders 'naturals' ham in our deli counter, max shelf life was at most 2 weeks, but for the most part a week to a week and half and we had to chop it for dog food or throw it out.

btw, everything we eat in our day to day has some form of known carcinogen or another, everything from sugar to manufactured flavour enhancing chemicals that no one can pronounce

hell, even my fishing rod has a warning label on it, 'This product contains a chemical that is known to cause cancer in the state of California'

  9. Pink salt is not dyed. It's a naturally occurring salt from the Himalayas. Purest, best quality salt in the world. The only dyed pink salt that I know of is either dyed salt licks or the pink salt used by some merchants to make their meats appear fresher. This may or may not be good for your application but it is what it is. Happy brining brudder. :)

im sorry, but you are wrong on this, pink curing salt is tinted pink because the nitrates and nitrites are toxic at high levels, so its tinted to not confuse it with regular salt, the himalyan pink salt is naturally occuring and a completely different shade of pink. pink curing salt is not sodium chloride (NaCl) but it is made of sodium erythorbate

regular table salt and himalayan salt will not work well for curing meats because they aren't full of nitrates and nitrites

    from http://barbecuebible.com/2014/08/26/guide-nitrites-prague-powder-curing-salts/

: Nitrates and nitrites can be toxic when not used at recommended levels. That’s why most curing salts are tinted pink—to make sure you don’t confuse them with ordinary table salt. (Do not confuse them with Himalayan pink salt, either.)

  10. pink salt is just regular curing salt dyed pink, it was done so people didn't confuse the curing salt for regular table salt in the cupboard. We sell both at the shop, 5oz is enough to do around 100lbs of meat so use it carefully

without the nitrates, you meat will go off a lot faster, say 2 weeks once opened from a vacuum sealed bag, we have tried to do the nitrate free hams for the deli counter, and the shelf life just wasn't worth it to please a few customers

  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression somewhere this spring that the cable providers would be required to offer individual channel picking. I checked with rogers and all they seem to have done is give you a basic package like before and then bundles. I don't watch sports, religion or shopping channels. I don't feel the need for CMT or any franco channels. Seems they have just changed the bundles around a bit and allow picking 15/20/30 channels or package prices. We package your favourite channels. Who the *@#* is Rogers to tell me what my favourite channels are. Any explanations would be welcome.

im logged into my rogers account now, go to your tv service, and under packages, you can choose individual channels, they're usually around $2.79 per month, I havce the fishing network as an extra channel, without all the extra channels in the package
