I've never fished for carp, or even caught one for that matter, but I've seen some real monsters floating dead in Quinte over the years and wouldn't doubt that water holds some really huge fish.
Steve (Hamilton) caught a biggun in Stoney Lake a couple years back that was around 35 pounds if I remember correctly.

Thanks guys, that's what I needed to know, and Blake, I'll talk to the reps when I get to the show.
Roy, your right about that, you don't get much for your $$$$ anymore
-
WTG guys and congrats on the PB's
Can't ask for a better way to close out the season than that !!

I stopped into JB's this morning and was told the Gold Plus chip is only for the color units and I'll need the Classic chip for the monochrome X-17
Strange thing though, he said the Classic is the same price as the Gold.....$275......it would seem to me the chip with less detail should be worth less money
Will show all the bumps around your little island
David aka Superdad
You remember that little island, do you David ??.....it still holds plenty of springtime pickeral even after all these years
-
Thanks Mark, that's what I wanted to hear about Quinte and yes, I'm aware that it doesn't cover Nippissing.

Mornin boyz, I'll be buying a Navionics chip for my new, and 1st, GPS unit in the next little while and have a couple questions for you.
I understand from friends that the gold chip will serve my purposes quite nicely, but then someone mentioned a gold plus.......Is there a difference between the gold & gold plus ??
Does the gold cover Quinte ??
I know there's a Platinum coming out and does anyone have any idea how much it'll cost, and will it be worth the extra $$$$ to get it over the gold ??

Thanks Phil, a couple real beauties there !!

Retired fireman from Toronto, and now spend most of my free time trying to teach Eddyk how to actually catch a fish

Lew is the next logical pick. But he's kinda far away
Sheeesh Chris, I can be at your house in 4 hours from the trailer, just gimme a date and I'll pick Jamie up on the way thru

I've been going to the Spring Show since day 1 Steve and always enjoyed it, but last year was a real disappointment with what seemed like 1/2 the vendors not there anymore. I'll go again this year if they have one, but if it hasn't improved over last year, it'll be my last time.
The Sportsman Show has gone waaaaaaay downhill the last few years too, so maybe they should scrap them both, and come up with one big decent show at a decent price and maybe they'll get the interest back from the public

If you think your overspending now ub1990, go have a look at some musky gear, where a basic, everyday, run of the mill lure will cost you about $25 each, a "good" lure will be $100 and then the really nice ones go on up from there, with some baits costing $300-400 each or even more.
Then there's the gear to go with it.......a good net is $150-$200, cutters for going thru 7/0 hooks about $60, store bought fluoro leaders about $10 each, and the list goes on.
Now you have to buy a boat and trailer and GPS and sonar and truck to pull it and gasoline at 90¢/litre and insurance and boat ramp fees and
Like fisherman says, buy what you can afford, when you can afford it, cause if you have to worry about the price, your not gonna have any fun while your using it. Get a few things at a time and go have some fun

We actually got about 1/4" of snow overnight, just enough to make the rooftops and parts of the ground white.
I think that's about the 1st snow we've had here in the Smoke this year .........OK enough of winter, now lets get back to the nice weather

Beautiful job on the video Cory, and it looks like you and your family had a summer you'll remember for a looooong time
-
You know me Roger, I don't mind helping out a friend when it's needed
-
Those baits turned out really good Jim, but no self respecting musky would ever go after an orange/black lure, so if you mail it to me, I can dispose of it for you

While 'lew' dreamed of 'muskiesnlakers'
Thanks tapout, that's some funny stuff, but I think "muskiesnlakers" may get the wrong idea if he reads that I'm dreaming of him
-
Hope this helps but it probably confuses things a bit more (sorry)
JP
Not to worry JPD, I'm from the old school and ANYTHING electronic confuses me
That Gold Plus will be the chip I'll be getting and thanks again for your help.
-
Thanks Marc & JPD
I've also talked to a couple friends who are familiar with the unit and everyone agrees it's a good deal. It was thru Cabelas and was the last one they had on sale, so I went ahead and ordered it and will have it in a week or so.
Next item will be the Navionics chip.
-
Thanks Roy, I think it should serve my purpose OK.

Morning boyz, I'm looking to buy my 1st GPS/Sonar unit and was looking at this one and wondering if anyone has this model, or has any 1st hand opinions on the unit.
I'd prefer color , but I'm after the larger screen and for the difference in price, I can be very happy with the monochrome.
I'm mainly interested in the Kawarthas and across to the Ottawa /St. Lawrence River area and understand the Navionics Gold card would serve my purpose, or even the new platinum, but I'll be getting that later.
It's on sale for $500 U.S.......whatdya think ??

I heard the good news yesterday Ed and congrats to Paula
Just let her know though, I won't be able to attend any weddings between the begining of June and December 15th...........you know, musky season and all
-
WTG Joey, that's great stuff

According to the long range forecast on the TV Weather Network this morning, the temps are staying above freezing for the near future, infact climbing to +13 by January 10th.
Not looking good for icefishers/skiers/snowmobilers
Course, we can't put too much faith in what the weatherman says

I buy 99% of my fish'n stuff at 2 local shops and always have, and probably always will, but if I'm looking for a big ticket item and can get it in one of the big box stores and save a couple hundred dollars, whether thru normal pricing or tax free days, well then, that's where I'm gonna get it.
It's nice to support the "little guy", and I usually do, but at the end of the day, the $200 difference is better in MY families pocket than anyone elses
