  1. I've never fished for carp, or even caught one for that matter, but I've seen some real monsters floating dead in Quinte over the years and wouldn't doubt that water holds some really huge fish.

Steve (Hamilton) caught a biggun in Stoney Lake a couple years back that was around 35 pounds if I remember correctly.

  2. I stopped into JB's this morning and was told the Gold Plus chip is only for the color units and I'll need the Classic chip for the monochrome X-17

Strange thing though, he said the Classic is the same price as the Gold.....$275......it would seem to me the chip with less detail should be worth less money :dunno:

Will show all the bumps around your little island ;)

    David aka Superdad

You remember that little island, do you David ??.....it still holds plenty of springtime pickeral even after all these years ;)

  3. Mornin boyz, I'll be buying a Navionics chip for my new, and 1st, GPS unit in the next little while and have a couple questions for you.

I understand from friends that the gold chip will serve my purposes quite nicely, but then someone mentioned a gold plus.......Is there a difference between the gold & gold plus ??

Does the gold cover Quinte ??

I know there's a Platinum coming out and does anyone have any idea how much it'll cost, and will it be worth the extra $$$$ to get it over the gold ??

  4. I've been going to the Spring Show since day 1 Steve and always enjoyed it, but last year was a real disappointment with what seemed like 1/2 the vendors not there anymore. I'll go again this year if they have one, but if it hasn't improved over last year, it'll be my last time.

The Sportsman Show has gone waaaaaaay downhill the last few years too, so maybe they should scrap them both, and come up with one big decent show at a decent price and maybe they'll get the interest back from the public :thumbsup_anim:

  5. If you think your overspending now ub1990, go have a look at some musky gear, where a basic, everyday, run of the mill lure will cost you about $25 each, a "good" lure will be $100 and then the really nice ones go on up from there, with some baits costing $300-400 each or even more.

Then there's the gear to go with it.......a good net is $150-$200, cutters for going thru 7/0 hooks about $60, store bought fluoro leaders about $10 each, and the list goes on.

Now you have to buy a boat and trailer and GPS and sonar and truck to pull it and gasoline at 90¢/litre and insurance and boat ramp fees and :blahblah1::blahblah1::blahblah1::blahblah1:

Like fisherman says, buy what you can afford, when you can afford it, cause if you have to worry about the price, your not gonna have any fun while your using it. Get a few things at a time and go have some fun :thumbsup_anim:

  6. Morning boyz, I'm looking to buy my 1st GPS/Sonar unit and was looking at this one and wondering if anyone has this model, or has any 1st hand opinions on the unit.

I'd prefer color , but I'm after the larger screen and for the difference in price, I can be very happy with the monochrome.

I'm mainly interested in the Kawarthas and across to the Ottawa /St. Lawrence River area and understand the Navionics Gold card would serve my purpose, or even the new platinum, but I'll be getting that later.

    It's on sale for $500 U.S.......whatdya think ??

  7. According to the long range forecast on the TV Weather Network this morning, the temps are staying above freezing for the near future, infact climbing to +13 by January 10th.

    Not looking good for icefishers/skiers/snowmobilers

Course, we can't put too much faith in what the weatherman says :dunno:

  8. I buy 99% of my fish'n stuff at 2 local shops and always have, and probably always will, but if I'm looking for a big ticket item and can get it in one of the big box stores and save a couple hundred dollars, whether thru normal pricing or tax free days, well then, that's where I'm gonna get it.

It's nice to support the "little guy", and I usually do, but at the end of the day, the $200 difference is better in MY families pocket than anyone elses :)
