  1. Very very nice indeed, well done !!
  2. I've got 40 years of casting for muskies under my belt Chris and IMHO, the split grip that I'm currently using for bucktails and spinnerbaits feels much better than any other rod I've used. Maybe it's the split grip that works., or maybe not, but to me it's perfect and if and when I buy another musky pole, it'll probably be exactly the same as this one. But again, that's just me.
  3. Alot of the musky guys, me included, use the DownEast holders for trolling so the grips don't really come into play. It's basically just the part of the rod below the reel that sit's in the holder. Can't really speak of any other kind of holder myself.
  4. OK, I'm missing something here Josh, why would a split grip hurt your sides while fishing jerkbaits but a full grip doesn't ??
  5. Your 100% correct about the weight Raf, but for me personally, I just liked the way it balanced with the reel and the overall feel of the whole combo.
  6. I've always used full grip musky poles, mostly Premiers, Avids and Compres, but liked the looks of the new St. Croix Legend Tournament rods with the split grip. I went down to Gagnons a year ago and spent alot of time looking at the 8' model and really liked the feel of it so I bought it. I paired it up with a Calcutta TE and it is, without a doubt, the best musky set-up I have ever used. Not saying the split grip makes the difference, but to me it just feels good.
  7. The funny thing is I stayed in the tent by myself so the 12 x 12 was excellent. I like to have lotsa space, specially if the weather is bad. My brother was the same and he'd put a 12 x 12 up right beside me. My wife joins me now on all my trips and has no interest in tenting so now we always rent cabins. I must be getting old and soft though cause now on those cold dirty rainy nights it sure is nice to be snug and dry inside a cabin
  8. I agree with Eureka, I had a 12x12 for years and it was excellent. Very light, easy to set up and even in the heaviest rains it never leaked a drop. The top of the tent was all zippered flaps that could open completely for ventilation or keep them closed if you preferred.
  9. For my area this week they were calling for rain Thursday & Friday. Then yesterday they changed it and said rain Friday & Saturday This morning it's changed again and now their saying rain for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday. May as well plan to work outside all weekend now as it'll probably be sunny & hot
  10. Yup, you got that right Art
  11. My Skeeter was made in Texas so I spose that makes it American too, but that's OK cause it's a nice boat.
  12. I've got very long arms Art
  13. I'll settle for 58 Roger
  14. Watch for my post in about 4 weeks Roger
  15. Thanks Jigger, that's what I was looking for.
  16. I was up at the West Arm a month ago and the water was up probably 8-10 inches or so and just above the docks. I'm heading back up in 3 weeks so I sure hope it goes down somewhere around normal by then. How much above normal do you think it is now Nipfisher ??
  17. That'd definitely be a rewarding day for you RJ and congrats to the angler too Great stuff for sure !!
  18. Thanks Steve, I know about that one but just prefer the causeway ramp but will be a back-up if need be, or maybe even run up to Emerald Ilse.
  19. You available tomorrow Shane, I'll probably fish till early afternoon. . Absolutely Albert, anytime at all.
  20. Merrell has had a great reputation for years but I'm wondering if their starting to go downhill. I bought a pair of Merrell sandals 2 years ago and payed $115 and when I got home and took them outta the box I noticed alot of the stitching was already loose. I took them straight back to the store and exchanged them for another pair, but checked them carefully before leaving and they looked fine. I wore them for 2 weeks and then I noticed the stitching was fraying and coming apart so I took them back for a refund. I complained to the manager about the garbage they were selling and was told that because nearly every make of sandal is now in the far east that's what we could expect from now on. The Merrells were made in China I ended up with a pair of Columbia's made in Viet Nam and after 2 years their still in decent shape.
  21. I think the silliest superstition is the one where someone actually thinks a silly superstition will actually have an effect on your days fishing success
  22. Sorry Mike, but my Sorrell Gortex hiking boots are about 14 years old and they are still absolutely waterproof to this day even after all the wear they've had. I payed $185 back then for them and their worth every $$$$
  23. Great idea Albert, meet me at the ramp at 8 and bring your musky pole
  24. Does anyone know for sure if the dock is in place at the boat ramp on the west end of the Chemong Lake causeway ?? I may fish there tomorrow if the dock is in but will go somewhere else if not. It's a great ramp with good parking but can be a pain by yourself without the dock to tie up to while parking the truck.
  25. Cute little pup you've got there Brian !!
