hey all, ya I know its not that specific but I got buddies from Timmins that held me in trust of a lot of info for that area that would shoot me if I started naming lakes up there., unfortunaetly they could also not help as they do not fish the lake I am talking about. Hope you all understand. Regardless I can just venture in myself as long as the roads to the south are passable (they were pretty bad last fall). And Golfisher we are not staying at a camp, we stay in the bush, though I hear Bay Wolf does well for their guests (talked to a few guests from their on day trips)

Hello all, hope everyones summer is going well and the fish are makin it into the boat. I am wondering if any of the members on here are familiar with this area. I am not local to the area but have spent lots of time up here in the past 10 years. This fall my buddies and I are hading up for our regular fall hunt/fish to our favourite walleye/grouse spot. I had a plan though to go to a lake in the area that my grandparents first took me to almost 25 years ago. I have not been back since and was thinking that the boys would like a change and I would love to get back to the spot that 'hooked' me on fishing. I don't want to name the lake but I can tell you it is a lake trout lake and south of the #560. Basically if anyone is familiar with the area and has recent (past few years) info on fish popualtions ( as I think this lake had natural fish and I'm not sure the ministry stocks it), road conditions, ect.... just p.m. me and i will let ya know what/where I am looking for. Thanks guys and gals Brkygetr

without question that is an amazing football of a fish, though I am no scientist but as per previous posts and my own initial observations that thing is and must have been stocked and fed well!!! I would love the chance to haul that thing in. In Lake O, E, and Huron they grow about as big as you can get them naturally, I also think the records should indicate the habitat of the fish. I've seen 8 lb pellet fed fish that would be no more than 3 lb jacks out of the Saugeen or the Niagara. Brkygetr

ok...well made it out yesterday for a few on the only lake around that reportedly has specks.... Apperently there is not much speck fishing out this way (VERY little natural)...drove past all the speck areas in the dark on the way here..anyways managed to find the lake with no problems and hook into a few little guys...though when I got them in I was surprised to see that they were splake and not specks. Fishing from shore was a bit of a pain in the butt as the bush cover was thick, and so were the ticks!!!! Did more than one happy dance in a clearing to make sure they were not hangin on. Throwing Mepps and Blue fox spinners did the trick, though just as I was ready to leave the wind calmed and the fish started to rise like crazy for the flys..couldn't get a look at one to see what the hatch was...saw some nice fish though so goin back this weekend with a floating tippet attached to a bobber and a selection of flys... never tried this before but as fly fishing is out of the question I think this just might work. Also got a hold of the regional biologist and got some good insight from him. If ya ever need information these are the people to talk to, the info is free and readily given (minus of-course their own personal honeyholes!!). Lots of lakers if I am willing to drive so I think that is also in the works. Really gonna try to get some pics on here for next time, its just the little guys are not really worth the time with the camera and they are not much for stress so got them back in quick. Cheers to all Brkygetr

Hey Rickster thanks for the info..I am out here now and have to spend the next few days trying to find a place to live..after that I am trout bound...if you are still in the Emo area and want to hook up just let me know...I got all day, every to fish...heading to the MNR today to get a stocking list and I definaetly don't mind walking to get to a lake so hopefully I will have something to report by the end of the week...by the way do you know any places to stay in the area???? Brkygetr

not necessarily looking for spots...just wondering what I am getting into out there...am I gonna have to travel 2 hours to find some trout? better to head east, west or north?? Do I need a 4x4, a boat, ect. (which by the way I am gonna have neither of ) Is there much stream fishing or mainly lakes? Any help would be appreciated... Brkygetr

Well I am on my out to Fort Frances for a month on route to Great Slave Lake for the summer...I was out there once last summer and got to do a little driving around and exploring but am definaetly 'green' to that part of the province. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the trout action out that way. I found a few nice back river walleye spots though it won't be open till the long weekend in May. I was gonna do some bushwacking for some specks and possibly shoreline lakers..basically untill I get out there and hit up the MNR for a recent stocking list I am not even sure if that part of the province has much trout to offer...though I have fished west of Nipigon on several occasions and had excellent sucess. So anyone out there got any info on the trout action???? Thanks: Brkygetr

it looks awesome and the concept is great...not your standard fishing show...I am really surprised that no-one has done something like this yet. I get the feeling it is a cross between 'Man vs. Wild' and 'Newfoundland Outdoorsman' ...some serious backwoods expeditions for fish...either way I clicked on the link in an earlier thread and checked it out...it makes me want to watch it right now!!!! I think it will work and the audience will be there for sure...can't wait to see it. Speaking of which where and when will the pilot be available???? Brkygetr

Hookset...right on thanks for the info..I was basically just gonna drift around in the sun with the rod on the gunnel of the boat dragging my big 'emerald shiner' around so I'd say the concept is the same. Pure sun and a good drift!!! I can't wait! Brkygetr

hey folks could use some advice here... I am heading to Great Slave for a summer position and need to get myself a new GPS that I can use a GOOD navigation tool. I am going to be on the water each and every day and need to make sure that my electronics will keep me safe and get me back to shore. What I am specifically looking for is a GPS that either comes with or I can download to, a decent basemap of Great Slave. I have read through the Lebaron's catalogue, and done some research but without first hand knowledge I just can not decide. I am willing to spend between 300-500. If anyone out there has some good advice and recomendations of a model that would be appropriate please let me know. Thanks to all... Brkygetr

What are planning on fishing for or rather what would you like to fish for. I was born fishing all of Bruce county and that time of year on the penninsula the options for fly-fishing are limited, though you can get into some serious bass in some areas (check the regs though as some areas are santuaries untill the first of July, I think) that will easily be tempted by a fly, and some good pike. Trout is pretty limited by that time. If ya got a canoe try Sky Lake where the river flowing from Issac meets it, at the road from Mar (yes there is a town named Mar). Other than that ...well...thats about it. Good luck though and say hello to the Bruce for me... Cheers Brkygetr

I have fished and hunt the Shining Tree area for over 15 years now and it is by far my favourite area in this fine province.... we still head up every May run for the walleye opener...there is great fishing to be had but you have to be willing to lock the hubs and cruise in first gear for several hours...though I have never actually fished either west or east Shining tree lake.... every game fish you want is up there and if I had to suggest an outfitter I would say Three Bears Camp would be able to get you on fish if you don't know the area. They are located just outside Shining Tree on the #560...we see them in the bush every year with clients and everyone I have talked to says they are good to deal with...good luck if ya head up there and possibly see ya in the spring.. Cheers Brkygetr

may-haps I am wrong about this...but no drop of water on this planet...unless as said "land-locked" is "owned"..and in that case only the land around 'said' waterway is actually owned....I am not a lawyer but come on...you try to kick me off some fozen water which I assume is attached to a larger waterway (without slips).....what the heck...as the saying goes..take a long walk off a short peir....and keep smilin' and fishin' Brkygetr
