Tell me you met a dude named Doug? As a side I note I also went to Fleming...great school and excellent profs. Only thing I can say is that 'fish' is not as spectacular as it sounds...I agree the hands on part of the course are great but the theory is nothing that you can't get from a book on your own...assuming you have the 'fish' bible! I would take a look at ET or EM closely before taking fish... And in reality the best course offered there for work is Drilling...LOTS of work. Just my opinion.

Hey Simon...this sounds real bad . Just a question...was there any motor related problems or was it all mechanical/suspension/ nuts and bolts type stuff. I am no mechanic but if it can come apart I can get it back tougether, so if it comes to it man I will come up there and get er goin'!!!!! Give me a reason to fish that crappy lake of yours anyway Like I said I am not a mechanic but I have pretty much had every part of my truck apart and she still runs, I can turn a wrench in the backyard. Let me know if you need a hand. Dale

Well done Greg...I miss those Hali lakes ...some of them are true gems if you have the will to get there.

Great report Simon. Plain and simple...that was a great day on the water Simon. Really appreciated meeting you and we will have to do it again soon...maybe next time we will adventure for the 5 lb+ brookies. The fishing we had was pretty much on the money for that lake but the size was not there... I fished it last year several times but 'I think' I hit it the first time in mid Jan, maybe the pattern will change later in the year. Also we did not get to the area i wanted to fish due to slush...not so much a safety factor as opposed to a pain in the a$$. Anyways once again it was great to meet you and you did a fairly good job of editing my language....LOL Cheers mate Dale

I'll be there.... p.s. bring an axe...mines lost in the snow in the box of my truck!!!!!

I'm thinkin smelt...watched a lot of those buggers fly out of the net on the shores of Huron...possibly young whities...a lot of the lakes I fish out here have a consistant whitie pop. Well done Simon...lets go get some big ones tommorrow....???

Simon...that sucks but I feel your pain. I did the same thing last year except I DID break down out on the lake. Bought the sled from a reputible guy and put exactly 63.7 km on it before it seized. I was 4.5 km from the truck . Luckily 10 min after I broke down a few buddies just happened by and towed me back. It was pure luck they came along...would have been a long walk through deep snow. At least be glad that you will have a sound sled before you get 30km from the truck.

Hey Simon...are you thinking a weekend deal where all who attend stay in one location or just a day event??? Just wondering as that would increase the oppertunities for different species and different lakes. I know there are lots o' camps, within reach of various lakes/species, that could accommodate a gathering of cold, hungry, thirsty fisher-people.

What was everyone's "Catch Of The Year"?
brkygetr replied to profisher25's topic in General Discussion
Not necessarily the fish but the fishing. Though the size and quantity were outstanding. November 29th/2008. First ice. Best day ice fishing (maybe fishing period) I have ever had. -
I'm in for sure...as long as were fishin whities or trout.... l have thought about this for a while as well. Glad you got the ball rollin' Simon. It's gonna be hard pickin a lake that is central but I am sure it will come tougether. Keep me informed and if you need any assistance just let me know. brkygetr

This might be a fun game...i have been a butcher for 15 years, not a nick i might add, and have been filleting fish since I was allowed out after dark...LOL. My buddies and I once had a 'debate ' about this exact subject and I was sure I could come in under 30 sec....with ALL bones removed. The debate has never finished to this day....I am gonna assume that was about a 20(ish)" walter so I think I will get it on tape over this winter and we'll see what happens. Any contenders??? That being said..... ... thats amazing...I hate cleaning crappie. I actually don't, if someone will clean I will catch, but they are far too annoying for me. Billy Bob you must have been happy as a dog eatin' beat root when that was done...LOL Cheers and sharp blades.

That is a great tune Misfish.....usually ends up cranked as loud as she'll go somewhere between midnight, the last beer, and bed. LOL Ya I can relate.

well done Simon... you've got the touch. You did better than i did by the way. Went out, froze, and all for nothing!!!!!!

Very nice....you gotta love the early ice walleye bite.... Have a good day at work tommorrow

I may have mislead you foks with the "run anything he sees" bit. He is very obedient and listens well...but he is still a pup. I have had 2 other retrievers before this from beginning to end, both hunting dogs from good lines (this one isn't). My situation involves the fact that I have never brought a dog up in wolf country so i am little neive/green about this. I think though everyone has basically answered what I thought....either tie him to a tree, or leave him a home till he works the snot out of his system. I'll go with that, better than the alternate ending. and... no Rick it doesn't...but its the smallest hidden laker lake out here, and its kinda east...

Got the day off tommorrow and gonna try a new lake. Want to take my pup (11 month/ 75 lb retreiver). Problem is this guy has balls of steel and will run anything he sees. Goin to be an excellent bird dog. The area i am going i have hunted and have seen lots of wolves, sightings and tracks. I am kinda worried if I take him and he sees a wolf across the ice he will be gone. I am not one to tie him up, he is a high energy dog and it is not fair to him to be tied, and besides he will be everywhere and the rope will get caught up in rods, ect. As I will be hunting on the way to the lake I will have my gun with me on the ice but I WOULD NEVER shoot a wolf. They are the epitomy of nature. So any suggestions, or should i just leave my buddy at home untill another day???? BTW heres a pic from last ice of last year and his only time ice-fishing....he's a wee bigger now.

Le Barons??????? Never had a problem. Sometimes they don't have it in stock...but still good service.

this one....

As i understand it Home Hardware is the biggest supplier of lumber Canada wide. I read an article on this years ago. If you think about it it makes sense...theres a lot more Home Hardwares in small towns then a Home Depot....by the way i think they originated out of St. Jacobs Ontario. They do have what you want.
-
well done Simon...it's all a matter of patience, if you spend the time it will pay off.
-
Specks....go figure. Tastiest and most beautifull trout out there.
-
Just get rid of Jethro, move Elly may and granny to the front and fit er in!!!! Jethro will catch up later. By the way i have no idea how to make that picture bigger.
-
that would easily fit in the back of a short-box Chevy!!!
