Thanks Ironmaker. I was saying a few days ago, I'm so lucky. How many people get to go ice fishing with their grandfather at the age of 34? Sadly she doesn't have a boat to bring in as a 'dowry' but she loves using mine for a day of fishing or back country camping. Typical story. Used to fish and visit family in Timmins all the time when she was younger, then the grind of the city took the girl out of the country. Soon as we started fishing and camping she said 'Oh! I forgot how much I love this!' Its Dan Reed. Him and his wife Melissa have been running those huts for........I think 7 seasons now? Someone told me they bought them from....... I think it was Grumpies before? (someone help me out on this one). Great people. Young couple too. Probably only a few years older then me.

Did you have it on salt? I know sometimes it fires up the nerves (Some funny videos on youtube on this) Also I'm gonna need to bug you about a whitefish recipe (and probably how to fillet it. It ain't no perch) the wife wants to eat her catch.

I don't think her or my mom would come if they couldn't fish in their PJ's (that being said they do well when we do non-hut ice fishing). I think one of the highlights everyone looks forward to every year is the annual 'Fish from bed' morning. We wake up, roll over and throw the line down the hole while still half asleep. Akri, as you said, its not always that easy but when it is, its a treat.

After she caught this fish I jokingly cried to my mom ‘between the two of you i’m Never going to catch any fish ever again’ the photo with my wife and I with the perch shows pretty much how the weekend went.

I think that Golf is (scratch that, can be) harder then fishing. And for sure more frusterating. I found I get angry and frustrated more golfing then I ever do fishing. I dunno. I think it’s because with golf there is a perfection that no one can reach (18 holes in one in a round) but it’s like with running a race. You can be the best but you can always be better. When I go fishing if I catch or even hook into one I feel like i’m The best fisherman that ever lived.

Also I think when we get married in May i’m Going to have to put in my vows ‘And I vow not to try and change your mind when you want to use a certain fishing lure’ when we got there I told her to pick the lure she wanted. She picked a large vibrato and I said ‘that may be kinda big’ so she picked a mepps that was white and red. I remember thinking she Probnaly won’t catch much on that. She ended up outfishing all of us by quite a lot. Shows what I know.

With my knee surgery back in December I knew I would probably only be getting out twice this year. The overnight Reeds hut rental on Nippising has been a tradition for 3 years for us. We always look forward to it and Melissa and Dan are top notch. The fishing has been hit or miss the last few years but not this year. It’s so funny too because this year Dan said the fishing was slow. First night we landed 13 perch and a 2 walleye and thought we were doing pretty well. (Both walleye were below slot size). The next morning the fish were bonkers. It’s like we could do anything and the fish were biting. The highlight was in the middle of a flurry of fish my (soon to be) wife hooks up with one, reels it half way in and it starts running. I’m thinking (that’s not a perch) a little bit of a fight later and she brings in a really nice whitefish. Final tally was 36 perch. 3 walleye and a whitefish. Can’t wait to go back next year.

That’s what gets me. Everyone is saying they want New York’s fans?!? So we want fans that come out for one game and then are the lowest attendance in the league for a team that is in first? It sucks we have the suits filling the first 20 rows but having a wait list for tickets is 100 times better then the alternate. Grass isn’t always greener.

I’m totally going to sound like a homer on this one but that goal that was called back swung the momentum. It doesn’t account for 6 goals but you could see the game turned after that was called back. Plus normally with playoff games one team doesn’t play a back to back with the other team full rested.

The story behind the story I love too. Islanders have the lowest attendance in the league this year but this game looks sold out. They only have passion to yell at Tavares.

Yep. Islanders fans can shove it. Cheer all you want but when a guy leaves when you give him one playoff series in 9 years and you blame him, you have no clue and no class.

Yeah. I seem to remember this is why I only fished gull once. I always like having one dead stick a little off the bottom while I explore the water column with the other one. Never understood why some lakes have the 1 line rule.

Do they let you use 2 lines now on Gull? I know it used to be 1 but I can't read the new regs now. I've looked for about 30 minutes and I can't find anything.

It’s so strange how different buildings can react. Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa were all fun ribbing. The rivalries were known but it was all in fun and everyone knew we were all fans of the game. Chicago and Detroit were parties. They didn’t care who you root for. It’s hockey and everyone loves it. Vancouver I was worried I wasn’t going to get out of there in one piece and I think the only reason I did was because the leafs lost. I’ll never go back into that building.

Doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve gone all over in my leafs Jearsy to watch games. It’s all part of the fun. If someone who is a fan of the opposing team can get tickets, more power to em. If the majority can, then it’s on the management one way or the other. the fact that there were lots of habs fans at the game speaks volumes about the management and how they only care about the highest bidder. I’m a Maple Leafs fan but man do I ever hate MLSE.

With the last one I did a 3 year, got the card but still had the yellow strips. I only did the 1 year this year because I won't be fishing much with my knee so I got the conservation. Then I can go back to the sport for 2019 once I'm all healed up. I didn't know the 3 year was still the same. That is nice to know.

If this has already been posted or counts as political please let me know and I'll take it down, I just had to rant somewhere. I got my new fishing licence today. A printed out piece of paper that isn't even waterproof. Needless to say I'm a little heartbroken (yeah, I'm a softie. It happens). What has happened to our fishing licences since I was a kid? How did this get decided this was the direction we were going?!?!? I remember when I was a kid, my sister and I would always look forward to when my parents go their new licence. We would try to guess which fish or animal was on the front of the licence and couldn't wait to see the art. I remember when I turned 18 I didn't mind paying for fishing because I was getting something 'cool' that told the world I was a fisherman. I can still remember what my first licence looked like, the smallmouth bass, mouth opened getting ready to strike. I used to like attaching the stickers to the card as well. It reminded me of my old bubblegum baseball games where you would buy the stickers of the players and get that terrible stick of gum then add them into your sticker book. I used to love looking back over the old stickers I had on the card and remembering why I switched from a sport licence to conservation or vice versa. Then they got rid of the art. And they got rid of the stickers. We still had a blue card with our name and details on it and yellow plastic ...... strips? Cards? Something in between. Sure the ink ran off of the yellow strips and it was weird having to have 3 cards in my wallet but it was still a card I could show off, it was still waterproof and it still fit in my wallet. Now today I have a massive dang certificate that was printed at Sail. Not waterproof, can't fit in my wallet. No cool art. The woman recommended I take a picture of it. So now if I go ice fishing and my phone dies and I get this piece of paper wet am I at the mercy of the C.O? Could they at least offer the option to pay extra for the card? I'll wait for the shipping. I don't mind. I knew this already a few years ago but these are clearly signs I'm getting old. Now excuse me while I go take my eye test for my boaters exam.

Like what Chris Brock said. We get put to shame by Chicago, Detroit. Its pretty bad. The big thing they do in Detroit that I wish the did here is an hour before the game they release a stack of tickets that are lower bowl standing room only for $30 a ticket. You can only buy 2 per person (to prevent resale) and its first come first serve. Allows some of the diehards to get into the game and inject some life into the building and lower bowl. Its sad in Toronto really. Its a boardroom to some, not a hockey arena.

You know what the difference is between the Leafs and the Sens? When this happened to us we still supported the team....... except Matt. He fled.

I loved how the Habs players were trash talking until the game turned around. Nylander playing the hockey stick like a violin was priceless with Tavares plugging his ears with his gloves. Moral of the story: Never trash talk until the final buzzer goes. No game is truly over.

I'm not going to quote Akrisoner's post because it would be way too long and would miss my point but this is my response now that I've had my coffee and a little sleep. It seems like everyone has a little 'recency bias' that are countering my argument about the Habs. If I mention Calgary in 04', Edmonton in 06', Anaheim in 09', Montreal in 10', or LA in 12' then it was too long ago and the game has changed. If I mention Nashville in 2016. 2017 then its 'they were a good team' (despite the fact they came 7th and 8th in the regular season respectively and were just a few points out from missing the playoffs all together. My point is that a team can get hot at the right time and that a goalie that has potential to be stellar (Price) with just a few defensive pieces that have picked up their game (Webber) have the potential to steal a series or two. This isn't the NBA or NCAA where 1 always beats 8 (or 16). Its what I love about the NHL. Anyone who gets in has a shot and there is no sure thing. If Montreal gets into the playoffs and wins round 1 against Tampa or Washington or New York everyone will say 'Price got hot. The other teams underestimated them. The Habs got on a streak at the right time.' But those things happen all the time. Just don't hand the Stanley Cup over to Tampa because they look like the best team on paper. A lot is going to happen between now and June when they hand out the trophy.

Man, you guys love a sure bet eh? In the playoffs anything can happen. 2 years ago Chicago got knocked off by Nashville in the first round (1 vs 8 ) and Montreal lost to New York (2 vs 7) The year before that same with Nashville knocking off Anaheim and the Islanders knocking off Florida. Every year there is a team that everyone says 'can't be beat. Greatest team ever'. People thought washington was going to score 10 goals a game and steamroll everyone for years. Pittsburgh is too good and will be a dynasty for years. Chicago has all the players, the team didn't change. And then some team that worked its ass off to get into the playoffs and made in on the last day outworks the team for 7 games and surprises everyone because the top team expected an automatic 'bye' into the Stanley Cup finals. It happens every year. I could be wrong on this and they may not even end up facing each other, Montreal may not make the playoffs and Tampa may be the juggernaut everyone says they are............. but I don't think so. We'll have much to talk about come April on this topic.
