  1. For me its being all in for the long haul. I've been a Leafs fan through thick and thin and will be until the day I die. My best memories of the Leafs aren't of the wins or the losses, even if they were a legacy franchise like Detroit or Pittsburgh, Chicago etc it wouldn't be how many times they won the cup, or the most memorable wins. It would be watching the games waaaaaaaay past my bedtime with my dad because they went into double OT. It would be cheering with him when they scored and discussing why they blew it with him when they lost. I could have been a fan of any team or any sport but the reason why I'll always stick with the Leafs was because of the memories with my father, not how successful or inept the franchise is. So yes, it is 'we' because this sport that has absolutely no effect on my life whatsoever was part of the reason why my bond with my father is so strong and why family is so important to me. (Asside - My dad is alive and well. I know some of how I was wording stuff sounded like he had passed, but I told him he isn't allowed to until we see the Leafs win a cup together.......... he might have to figure out a way to be immortal at this rate)
  2. I think the big thing is Leafs haters take the media and a small sample size of clueless homer fans and then try to paint everyone with the same brush. Either that or they try to paint the same fans that are fanatics and say the Leafs are due for the cup this year as the same fans that boo Jake Gardner. When in truth, this is a small group of the Leafs fans, its just because they are the most vocal that they stand out. I don't think any Leafs fan on this forum thinks the Leafs are the best team to win the cup this year. The statistics show this has the potential to be the best LEAFS team ever (based off of overall points for the season) but there are still better teams in the NHL this season. That is saying a lot as to how competitive the league is and just how hard it is to win a Stanley Cup. I would love to see the Leafs win the cup this year, but if you asked me to bet $500 on the Leafs or the field, the bet is an easy one. I'm taking the field. The morning show with Landsberg and Coliacovo made a really good point. They were interviewing Matthews and he said after the first period the guys got PO'ed and put in a better effort. I have no idea why they can't start the game PO'ed rather then waiting for a reason to get angry. If they keep this up it will be another first round exit.
  3. I don't have the legend but I have the Mojo bass dropshot rod and I love it. I think the legend is a step up from the mojo but you honestly can't go wrong with St. Croix. The sensitivity in the rods they make is unbelievable.
  4. I like though that we can banter back and fourth and although I don't always agree with your point of view, the fact that you can back it up with statistics and information I respect that. Its when I can't even debate with people or when 'I can't argue with stupid' that I get riled up. That includes Leaf fans as well. You wouldn't believe how many people either think Tavares was a terrible pickup or wouldn't take McDavid if he wanted to come to Toronto in 5 - 6 years. It boggles the mind. I would love to know where in the thread someone said that. Also sadly we'll still have Marleau next year. I can't see the Leafs unloading that big of a contract for an aging vet without giving something up, and from Dubas' attitude at the trade deadline I can't see that happening either. The Leafs team will change but I still think it needs a lot more experience to do some serious damage in the playoffs. Heck, how many years did it take Washington to win their cup? And you could argue that Ovetchkin, Semin, Backstrom, Green are a better core then Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Riley.
  5. ........... You know Moxie made fun of you too in that post....... right?
  6. The former 'fair weather' Leafs fans always make me laugh. I know for a fact that if we ever make the Stanley Cup finals (or lord forbid) win the cup that they'll jump right back on the bandwagon and claim they were a Leafs fan all along. ? How boring. Maybe I'm a masochist but because the Leafs have never won in my lifetime it makes it that much more exciting because if they do win it all it will be something special. If they Jays win a world series again, it'll be nice, but I've already seen two of those. Imagine how TRUE Chicago Cubs fans must have felt when they won in 2016........ oh and how many people must have jumped back on the bandwagon after the victory.
  7. And what is a one a done? Is that like the ole rope a dope? Leafs may pull that one off in the first round.
  8. Whoops! You're right. (Can I blame it on daylight savings time? not the loss, the fact that I had no idea who they had in net)
  9. Your point comes across much stronger if you spell check and proofread your work before you present such compelling arguements in front of the class.
  10. Leafs put in their backup goalie against the best team in the league, arguably the best team in the past 20 years and you use this as your litmus test? Brilliant! You are right (never thought I'd say that) about Riley though. Especially as someone that wears the A and is in talks to wear the C, it won't happen now because of this. When you are one of the faces of the franchise you can't let your emotions get the better of you.
  11. I think the Leafs starting on the road against Boston is sadly pretty inevitable, that being said (With this story I'm starting to sound like James Spader's character off the blacklist) When I was in high school I used to be on the wrestling team. In my 3rd year/season it seemed like every tournament I was facing and losing to this one kid. Big, strong as a bull, not too smart and not a very good wrestler but could get away with it because of his strength. After losing to him about half a dozen times I actually got out of that weight category so I wouldn't have to face him anymore. As my career went on I won and lost some matches but looking back I don't believe that I improved as much as I would have if I had stayed in that weight category and learned how to beat the other kid. I feel this way about the Leafs and the Bruins. Will the Leafs beat them this year? Maybe, maybe not. Do the leafs need to beat the Bruins if they ever want to win a cup? From a literal standpoint probably not, from a psychological standpoint I'd say probably.
  12. All depends on the guy eh? From a warning to not having a licence to a ticket for having it but not being able to produce. Boggles the mind.
  13. Those were the bushwackers. Butch and ....... the other guy. Back when wrestling was all characters and stereotypes with boardline (and sometimes) blatant racism. Good times.
  14. When I was a kid I used to have friends that i’d Watch WWE wrestling. I’d stick with my favourites (Hacksaw Jim Dugan, The Undertaker, Bret Hart), sometimes they would lose but it was always that much more fun and rewarding when they would win or when they were holding a WWE title. Their favourite was whoever was holding the WWE championship title at the time. Needless to say, we didn’t stay friends for very long.
  15. Lmao. Some fish had a bucket list. What luck!
  16. Well, if we needed a sign that Anderssen is overplayed last night was it. Those goals were all pretty bad with the OT winner a total stinker. Time to get Sparks in. Home ice in the first round would be nice but not if our goaltending is going to be like that.
  17. No worries about the sidetrack Ironmaker and Dan. I love that posts like mine can spark conversation and get us through the winter. B - No comments from the peanut gallery.
  18. At least Dubas said something. I know Marner doesn't want to get in trouble but everything he said was a generic quote. Would have been good if he at least threw a jab or a joke out.
  19. You'd love it bud, specially on a weekday. I think around 6pm it was just us and the stars. No city light pollution. No noise. Its always a special trip and for us it breaks up the winter. For sure! I've seen JoeyTier pull out herring I thought for sure were whitefish out of Nippising just due to the sheer size. They grow to monsterous sizes there. I had to double check the regs just incase I ID'ed it wrong. (Grandfather likes pickled herring too so if we were in our limit that fish was coming home regardless of species). That being said too, this whitefish was caught in under 20 FOW. I was pretty surprised.
  20. Thanks bud. I’d like that. Sara and I were saying Stucco in Tweed the week before the crappie derby to slay some slabs. Either that or we are both open. Shoot me a text soon and we’ll plan something.
  21. Mostly the reasons you listed for the Pens. Crosby and Malkin can turn it on at any point in time and really make a run through the playoffs or at least play spoiler. I'm also a fan of the underdog. Let Columbus have their day in the sun. They deserve it for all of the moves they have made and the push. I'd legit feel bad for them if they missed. Also I don't want the Pens to make the playoffs for the same reason them and the Red Wings are on my hated list. Its hate from a place of respect. They have both been great franchises for most of my life and I'm jealous because I wish (and now hope) that Toronto can do what they did. Its time for another team to have the spotlight and be the talk of the NHL. Edit: That being said, I'm also a little PO'ed with fanbases like Pittsburgh. They have had some of the greatest players of all time (Lemeuix, Jagr) and have won a few cups in the last 40 years and yet the franchise almost folded due to lack of support. Then they lotto picked Crosby and all of the sudden everyone comes back in droves? What a bunch of fair weather fans. Not sure if I have less respect for that or for the Islanders fan base (putting aside all of the Tavares stuff. I just mean a fanbase that has a team in first and barely fills half the arena)
  22. Mostly I just want Pittsburgh to miss the playoffs. We played this on another thread. 5 favourite teams and 5 most hated teams. Me: 1) Leafs 2) Flames 3) Oilers 4) Caps 5) Winnipeg (Vancouver used to be in there until they tried to burn the city down) hated: 1) Boston 2) Islanders (just took over recently) 3) Sens 4) Pens 5) Detroit
  23. Habs will beat em in the first round. ? but you are right. Everyone hates this playoff format. Also leafs ads are getting hot at the right time. Hope they keep this play up. Everyone looked good last night.
