Took like 10 retakes for that one scene. Its pretty funny they are so excited about it. All the neighbor kids want me to do a big finally scene with light sabers and wizards flying around haha. They think they are famous already like Justing Beiber.

If you have a gasoline compatable stove your supposed to use gasoline with the lowest octane rating. I am not sure what effect ethanol would have on it. I used to have a multi fuel stove that would burn everything from diesle, naptha, gasoline, jet fuel etc.... It got ran over by a truck.

Small Bass rods in the Medium range that was referred to is not suitable for musky. Bigger spinning gear under the proper circumstances are fine. Why is everyone so twisted about this? To say spinning gear is never acceptable for musky is silly. Heck I saw a very well respected fisherman catch and land a Shark on a MH Shimano Volteus spinning setup.

Would you as an shade tree mechanic change your oil or do your own brakes? a small minor job like fishing for sub 45" musky in the kawarthas is not the same typ of fishing as going for 50+ on the french day in day out. I don't think any here has said that spinning gear is the best. But if your headed once, in all likelyhood going to catch a max of 2 or 3 ski's in the kawarthas most likely to bu 45" or less than heavier bass gear will do just fine. If your going out day in and day out then yah heavier musky baitcasting gear is much better suited. A medium action bass rod though is pretty small and is obviously a poor choice for targeting musky. An accidental hook up is one thing but targeting musky with a medium action rod is not a great idea. The reel offers a couple things when musky fishing. Drag power and cranking power. Drag power in most spinning reels is half that or less of most musky setups. However with my musky reels I have straightened hooks on bigger musky, so my drag is normally set much lower than full. The drag power offered from a 4000 series real is stout enough to hand a sub 40 musky to the point where your not likely to have the drag set to full anyway. Cranking power is something else, with thinner longer handles on most spinning reels your likely to bend your handle on your spinning reel if your reeling in fish after big fish. The rod offersyou the backbone to cast the big lures, set the hook and use its length and strength to help pull the fish in without breaking it. Again an XH flipping stick or big frog rod offer these features in spinning setups for smaller musky. The ideal scenario is to get the musky into the landing net or boat as fast as possible to lower the ammount of adrenaline produced in the fishes body. Its not actually adrenaline its some other chemical. When the fish is done fighting this chemical actuall puts the fish into a hibernation like coma, and this stresses and can kill the fish. The shorter the fight the better. Another thing to consider is the out of water experience for the fish. Obviously the less hook damage the less its out of the water the better. Keep everything in mind and make up your own mind. Musky fishing is very dear to many peoples hearts. If you are going to continue musky fishing then you should really invest in a musky combo. It will save you money on broken bits and pieces as well it will help you land bigger fish faster. A used Diawa Heartland and an Abu 6500 C3 should be able to be had for about 100 to 150 bucks. Someone has a pete mania used for 30 bucks. I'll sell you a diawa heartland heavy action musky rod for 50. then for an extra 20 get some 75 pound power pro and your off to the races for a 100 bucks. The original question can Spinning gear be used for musky. The answer is yes, if its heavier gear, and if its used for smaller musky. For bigger musky if your stuck on spinning gear your talking about getting into Inshore type rods and at that point you may as well go baitcaster.

As to the original question the VBS works like this. When the spool spins fast the springed weights are pressed outwards by the centrigal force turning on the brakes slowing the spool down to prevent backlashes at the begining of the cast. As the spool speed starts to slow down mid cast the brakes release allowing the bait to be casted further. At the end of the cast the spool tension adjustment stops the overrun at the end of cast allowing the bait to land and slow down softly versus abruptly like from a spinning reel. The result is a cast that fires out nice and far and the brakes and spool bring the bait to a slow and controlled fall allowing the bait to land softly in the water. The more weights engaged the harder the weights brake and harder you have to and can fire it out there but the result is a shorter cast, but a softer landing. Unless your real good with your thumb if you just set it up properly and let the VBS do its thing you will be a much softer landing and this will allow you to catch more fish as you will be less likely to spook those fish away from the splash of your lure hitting the water. Ideally you should use as little braking power as required to prevent backlashing. This will give you the best casting distance and softest landing.

For me Selection is king, price then custommer service. If you don't have what I want. I am not going to buy something I don't want just cause you have a friendly smile or low prices. If two places have what I want, its the cheaper price that gets my buck. If its pretty much a wash then I'll reward the place with better staff. Big box, or small shop doesn't mean much to me as a consumer its all the same.

I have a 7 foot Extra Heavy Clarus spinning rod with a 4000 Symetre, and I have caught many musky with it without much dificulty, including a 48 incher. I prefer this rod for flipping plastics on finicky days. I use 50 pound power pro and a 75 pound floro leader with it. Most musky fishing is with the baitcasters and they are by far stronger and have beefier drags.

I leave 3 on 3 off for all baits and wind conditions. The only thing I adjust is the spool tension. I hold the rod horrizontal and push the button and loosen the tension knob until the bait falls to the ground, bot deck or water and a couple loops of lines loosen when the bait stops. Then just cast away. If I am pitching I will loosen it off a bit more and thumb it to stop it. other than that thats all. I have 6 curado's and several other baitcasters I use for various Bass tactics and I rarely if ever have backlashes with any of my curados. The PT Tours on the other hand don't cast nearly as far and I have to play with them a bit more to set them up.

if your on the ground on bedrock or a house with a really good foundation you may not feel it. I am onthe 5th floor of a 20 floor building, and everyone in the building felt it. This is in Toronto. Last year's I was in a mall and I didn't feel it. but others areound the block felt it. It just depends on what your in and where you are.

The security for the building just made an announcement. "There was an earthquake about 20 minutes ago in virginia. Its up to you if you want to evacuate" umm gee, yah a little late for the optional evacuation. I think I am going to evacuate at 4pm.

Will try it on one of my drop shot rods(with leader) and one of my weightless worm rods this weekend and see how it goes. Both will be 12 pounds. One will be replacing hi vis braid, and the other will be replacing braid with floro leader. The drop shot rod will still have a leader and the worm rod will have no leader.

I did have a big bad birds nest at the last tourney. I fired out a crank bait, and I forgot to tighten the brakes. I had it completly lostened off as I hadn't used that reel yet this year. oh man was it ugly. I ended up cutting the lure off and putting it on a different rod, and throwing it in the rod locker. At home I just cut if off. There is no sure fire way to get a birds nest out. You gotta just work at it or cut the line off.

Hey at least they are giving a bonus. I work in a real company and they cut the bonus cheques all together, yet are expanding the company. They did so without even telling anyone, the bonus time just came and went without a word.

or use a hook to pull the V's. The other thing is if you doo pull them real tight and your using mono. You should probably just cut the line off.

I doubt many reels are designed and tested for cold weather like we see in canadian ice fishing. Expansion, freezing etc... all plays havoc on metal and plastic pieces. Thats why I only take my junk reels ice fishing. Its probably a gear, or washer.
