Fishing Grand River on Highway 9 in Grand Valley

Has anyone ever fished the Grand River on Highway 9 in Grand Valley? I fished it once in late April and nothing but a couple of bites from minnows.

Theres smallmouth around. My brother lives in grand valley and I know that his kid used to go down with a worms and catch smallies. No trout that far up from what I know...but i could be totally wrong.
