MY BOAT SANK! NEED HELP (update #3, May 9)
young_one replied to young_one's topic in General Discussion
After a really long day for my parents, and I joined them after school. We have new updates! The dealer is still in the process of boat inspection, they found some problems. The only thing that both parties can confirm 100% is that, the boat was NOT swamped. I'll continue to update any news that I receive. Thank you all for your concerns and expertise. Through this topic, I can truely feel the sense of community in this forum. Thank you OFC Community -
MY BOAT SANK! NEED HELP (update #3, May 9)
young_one replied to young_one's topic in General Discussion
- all the storage compartments have a lock and I thought it was safe from the thefts, but I never thought about the whole thing turning into a submarine - i had to sunbath my entire fishing tackel on Saturday afternoon (I guess now I know every bit of my tackel inventory, but still I'm sure things are gonna become rusty and moldy ) - I think my parents have already contacted the insurance company and got some insights from a lawyer - We have not touched anything nor tried to fix anything with the boat - I have at least 4 witness contact information - the boat plug is outside, the last person who tighten the plug was the sale represenative who took us through the boat orientation. Like i said before, we triple checked the boat plug before it was launched. Since I'm still at school, Grd12 (this whole thing has taught me a lot) parents are dealing with the matter right now. I believe we are gonna take the boat to a third-party professional boat inspection and see if there are other problems that might've caused this tragedy. -

Holy poop, your right. I suppose ON stands for Ontario? NO is definitely wrong? (I'm not experienced with boat plate) The dealer did the registration. -
MY BOAT SANK! NEED HELP (update #3, May 9)
young_one replied to young_one's topic in General Discussion
Rick, my boat doesn't have the option of auto-bilge. Like I said before, everything was shut off when I left the boat. -
May 9, 23:45 The result from yesterday's boat inspection/testing was confirmed, and the problem was found! When the boat was at the dealer's garage, all the in-land testing was suggesting that the boat was 100% water-tight. The live well, bait well, bilge, hull and etc were all problem free. In the afternoon, we took the boat and two boat dealer’s mechanists to a local boat launch. Quickly after the boat was in the water, the problem revealed itself. Earlier in the day, the mechanists already fixed the problem with the seal. (red label in my previous picture) The main cause was in fact similar to the red labeled seal. In this picture(taken before the seal was fixed) Main engine 150HP + additional 9.9HP Pro Trolling Motor, the transom has a lot of additional weight, thus the water line becomes a bit higher. With the additional weight, water is easily accessed through the two circled red holes. Usually it is fine to have water coming in and out through these two overflow transom holes, but the problem that caused everything was indeed another problem with improper sealing in the area of these two holes. (Both mechanists agreed) Here is a poor attempt of taking a shot of one circled red hole. Maybe for some of you expert boaters, this problem might not be seen to have caused enough leakage, but indeed THIS WAS IT! Approximately (really rough estimate) for every min the boat was in the water, and the bilge pump was working non-stop for 30sec, it would pause for the reminding 30sec. If the boat was unintended and the bilge pump was not activated,(this boat is not equiped with auto-bilge pump) the water would come in profusely, and with added water weight, the rate would increase. I would like to thank the two mechanists from the dealer who joined us with the in-water inspection. They did a great job with patience, and the problem was ultimately found. ****************************************************** May 8, 22:00 After a really long day for my parents, and I joined them after school. I'll continue to update any news that I receive. Thank you all for your concerns and expertise. Through this topic, I can truely feel the sense of community in this forum. Thank you OFC Community ****************************************************** Picked up the family’s new boat on Friday afternoon. - Tracker Tundra 18 SC, 04 Edition. My father and I carefully went through all the boat orientation with the Boat Centre representatives. Arrived in Mohawk Bay Trailer Park, Deseronto, Bay of Quinte in the evening. We launched the boat with the help of some experts. (THE BOAT PLUG WAS TRIPLE CHECKED) We thought it was going to be a great weekend… But it was a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE with the new boat 1st thing on the water, the engine won’t start, but we eventually solved the problem with our own limited ability. Since it was at night time, we decided to try some night time walleye fishing. 2nd, when we tried to turn on the night navigation lights, it didn’t work properly. Back at the boat centre, it worked fine. Frustrated in the dark, my father and a friend went through the boater’s instruction manual. It turns out, the brand new electric fuse was broken and we had to replace with another one. :S We fished until 5am and docked the boat. - We turned all the triggers off, especially the master power button. We went back to the motel and got some quick rest. 9am in the morning, our peaceful breakfast was interrupted by an urgent phone call from the Mohawk Bay staff. “The back of your boat is filled with A LOT OF WATER!” - We got there as soon as possible and the entire sitting area was filled water. - At one point in the boat rescue, the lake was above the bow casting deck. With plenty of help from many generous boaters in the area, and the MHBT working staff. (Dave and this other young gentleman) We were finally able to pull the boat out of the water after hrs of rescue. We inspected the boat and re-launched to see where the leak might’ve occurred, I conclude: - No crack with the hull, our night time driving was very safe and slow. (Tough aluminum construction, Tracker Tundra is well-known for this durable boat hull) - No bait well or live well over flow, I’m 100% sure the master power was off. (plus, the boat also has bait/live well overflow tubing) - The plug was definitely in and well secured (Picture proof) - Bait well, live well drain control was turned closed. The only possible problem we came up with: This little seal was not done properly, and all the water that came in, rushed into the hull. At this point, I’m still not sure what the exact problem was. Now I have to deal with: - my fishing plan was ruined, a huge waste of time and labor - Big engine propeller is grindy, cause it was dug into the sand when the boat was sinking - Things are gonna get moldy not matter how much I’ve dried for the last 30 hrs - Electric connection - Trolling motor, four stroke was in the water as well. - My new 997si fish finder was submerged - My entire fishing tackle was submerged I’m taking the boat back to the Boat Centre first thing tomorrow, and I’m gonna speak to the representative and see what will happen. I’ve spoken to many experienced boaters, and many of them have suggested to ask for a new boat, or simply just return it. What if the boat centre only agrees to fix the boat? I have absolutely no desire to keep this boat, after what it has gone through. I really need all of your help on this serious matter. What are my options? How should I present myself to the boat centre representatives so that I could get the best option for myself.

Deciding a lake for panfish opener this weeknd. Simcoe...Kawartha? With my newl boat and 997si, hopefully my success would be greater. I'll definitely use a lot of my 997si, and it'll be my first time experience on the water. Be sure to check out my report next week.

This is UNREAL! I've either been busy, or sick for the last few weekends, and I couldn't wait to go out to the tribes. With all the steelhead pics on this web for the last 2 weeks, my anxiety was about to burst. Two days ago, I finally received my copy of the Steelheading - Jim Butler. Tell you the truth, I really don’t like reading, but I was reading this book like there’s no tomorrow, even with my 39*C fever. Just yesterday, I was planning to hit the tribes on Friday morning and practice some of the stuff taught in the book. One of the few Fridays where I don’t have school. Now, CC is putting down his rod… What chance is there for me. This sucks, I guess I should just sleep-in and recover 100% from the flu.

Nice report as always! Is it a steelhead, the 2nd pic? My book(J.Butler) will arrive 4-14 business days. Can't wait!

Left T.O friday afternoon. First thing Saturday, went to Cabela's. Biggest attraction in Dundee. Very easy to find. The inside of the store is very nice. VERY BIG Spent around 20 min just to walk around without a shopping basket. Lots wildlife mount, my camera's memory stick didn't work properly. Found this small section of the store, where all the hooks/jigs/weights/live minnow are. Huge selection Even with minnow slection! Once pic NF, Junior National All-State Basketball Competition (Sittin down, middle with a ball -> me. This is only the position 3 players, over 200 players from states/Ontario near by Michigan areas was scouted to this tournament.) Items bought. After purchasing the 997si, parents thought we'll slow down with purchasing other fishing tackles. Ahh, the packaging was taking "too much space" so when we crossed the boarder, we placed it in a fruit basket. Shhh, don't tell anyone, I placed the white box thing along with a heavy blk rectangular monitor that has "HUMMINGBIRD" in the glove department of my car. For safety reason ofcourse 149.99 (Mail-in-rebate, $150)

Congrads on your catch. I'm kinda like you, but I was officially introduced to Steelhead 1 week ago. Mind if I ask what bait/lure you like to use the most?

Long story short, I have this trip to Michigan this weekend. My family and I will have the opportunity to shop at Cabela’s in Dundee. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this store, and I’m willing to spend a couple bills to increase my walleye tackle selection. I realize there are many unique and effective lures that us Canadians can only get from the States. * walleye trolling lures? Shallow and deep? - Manna’s (I remember ppl talking abt it on this board) Which model and colour? - Taidancer? - Recommendations? - Spring, Summer or Fall lures? Haha, basically recommend anything that works I’ll consider them and I’ll always report their effectiveness when I do get a chance to use them. I’m really excited for this trip, at the same time I’m counting down the days for the Walleye opener on BOQ. Some nice eaters I caught last Spring in Deseronto area. (Orange-Mepps Blk Fury)

I knew today would've been an excellent day to start early on this week's fantastic weather. I'm so jealous that you don't have to work, mind if I ask what you do for living? I remember something related to electricity repair or something, :S I could be wrong. Hmm if you continue feeding these pics online, soon enough I'll skip school to go fish Screw Grd12, who needs a future when you can catch Steelhead all day. Joking... but I am considering going early to the river when I have double morning preparatory period/spare. My copy of Jim Butler is on its way, soon enough I’ll have my Steelhead 101 guide.

Nice catch! hmmm where can i buy some loose Steelhead roe? Clearly my Salmon roe is not working, skunked twice now. (2nd time, i learnt not every day the river will give me that "winter grn" colour)

Sumone plz help him and ME. I'm gonna go Michigan soon, I really need the chips for my new GPS/Fishfinder. Is it worth it for the extra bucks?

Havn't try Slug-go and Spoonplug. Maybe...maybe I'll toss them this summer. Where's the topwater stuff? Poppers, buzzbait, and where is the good old texas-plastic-worm.

Found these photograph in my cam, forgot to post them. I find it really interesting. Long story short, friend bought me a male Beta for x-mas, I decided to pair him up with a female. The fish fought, bite each other. One day, I put them together, the male starts to make bubble nests and later they mated. I must admit, I was really amused with fish porn. Hahaha! A/w pictures worth a thousand words. Enjoy... "I'm falling for you!" "You are going no where!" The next few pics are sensored... (lol, actully the fish were camera shy) Bubble nest from above. Close up, there's some fish egg in the bubbles. I was told to wait 2 days or so to let them hatch, but unfortunately they never did. No worries, they can mate once every month. Soon enough I'll have an army of Fighter Fish!

Went out this morning with CC to a local hotspot. Lots slush and the temperature was FREEZING. I learnt a lot from CC, what a great guy! If you ever get a chance to go fish with him, HIGHLY recommend. I didn’t catch any fish, but it was definitely a good start. I had to bite off the ice cover on my float every now and then. At one point, I had to lick the ice off my hook! Ironically, my Fireline Crystal was literally becoming Iceline. I really like the new Fireline, its got all the great features like the reviews said, but it also camouflaged with the “ice lily pads”. Unsurprisingly, CC put on a great show for me, 2 fish in 4 hrs when I was there, and more I left. It was like Saturday morning fishing show, live show and one-on-one private lesson. I thought the highlight was the hook set on the 2nd hen, CC was melting/licking the rod tip and all of a sudden, float disappeared, “FISH!” Quote: “when ever your doing something else,(try something new) like taking a piss or whatever, you catch a fish!” I left around 1045ish, cause it was way TOO COLD. Usually I can tie a Parlamor know blindfolded in 10sec, it today it took me 2min. Hmmm gonna go out again sometime this week, I'm hooked! Fish don't jump this time of the yr, Less exciting, but its still a fish. CC doing what he does best. Thanks CC, 20 years from now, maybe I'll eventually outcatch you, but for the record, I'm still at zero. (now which book store carrries Jim.B - Steelhead ) - Will.C

Nice report, can't wait to see the photos.
