  1. That's too bad jimmer... always nice to take in the scenery but a little action is good too! I've never stopped to fish that part of the lower french... we always high tail it to the bay. We had a string of slow years too.
  2. Heading home to fish on the Larry. Most likely jigging my favourite spots for giant eyes but there's so much to offer, we might switch things up and fish for whatever... Just good to be out there!
  3. Thanks guys! I'm driving North and hitting the 400 at hwy 9 to rendez-vous with the rest of our party. Any word of leeches further North? Point au Baril? Barrie? Cheers and thanks again.
  4. Hi all, We're heading up to the French River next week and I usually bring leeches. My bait guy says he most likely won't have any and says not many places around do. According to him, a tough spring on those little suckers. I'm leaving Guelph and heading up the 400/69. Do any of you jedi know of any place to grab some? Cheers and thanks.
  5. This thread is one of the many reasons why I love this forum. Cheers and thanks
  6. The Woolwich Arms aka The Wooly... Great beers and eats.
  7. Perhaps the lack of attention towards the Fukushima situation was more about timing than anything else. This September, Tokyo has been chosen to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, ahead of Istanbul and Madrid. Something tells me this global catastrophe is way too big to cover up, but at least they got the Olympics. I just hope it's not too late...
  8. I thought I saw that guy as far as Dokis. If it was him, he was a pleasant fellow. Watched them fight a large ski then they lost it pontoon side. Apparently Mr. ski grabbed hold of his smallmouth and was too stubbornned to let go.
  9. With a jig head for deeper water but most luck in shallow water (3-8ft) rigged Texas style. Those baits are pretty heavy so they cast far and just switch up your retrieve to find the pattern.
  10. 5-6" plastic swim baits, with a jig head or rigged Texas style with big hooks. Killer!
  11. Superdeck is a great product, made by Duckback. I'd recommend using the cleaner then the brightener and finally the stain. The cleaner will remove any existing sealers, mould, mildew and dirt. The brightener basically bleaches the wood so the stain can really penetrate. The semi-transparent stain is a one coat system and the colours are awesome. I'd recommend giving it a super diluted cleaning the following year and re-apply another coat. Hope that helps...
  12. Thanks for all the tips guys... That was a great episode, the cottages up there are very much over the top.
  13. Howdy y'all I'm new to the board (although I have been lurking for a while), and would like to start by offering a 'cheers' to all and that I'm stoked to have found such a great community who love fishing as much as I do! A friend has a cottage on Lake Joe and I've been going up on a regular basis for several years now. The only problem is nobody fishes, it's more of a wine and dine vibe and I've had enough. It pains me to look out onto this beautiful lake from the dock. My friends think I'm some kind of weirdo for wanting to fish (ok, maybe the hours of being anti-social & casting from the dock might be the reason but nonetheless). I figured a few good smallies would spark some interest, but to no avail. I'm extending a plea for help in my quest to prove to them that fishing is a must on the weekend to do list. We have a growing brood of little ones who would love to get out and enjoy what this lake has to offer. Now, there is a boat but no downrigger or sonar so I'll have to study the maps for potential spots. Smallies I could handle but lakers, which would be a first for me, would seal the deal. I got a faint whiff of something, I'm hoping it's good pot from the neighbors and not a skunk... LOL Anyways, I'm stoked to be getting out on the lake but I'm also looking forward to contributing to future discussions on this board. Cheers all and happy fishing!! PS: feel free to PM me if you feel like helping a brother out.
  14. My first post... Glad to meet y'all. Here's a little something I found: http://www.cottagecountrynow.ca/what's%20on/article/1081463--film-north-doc-pleads-case-for-algonquin-brook-trout
