Wow, that batter looked great and I love the idea of making a giant batch of taters on the first night so you don't have to mess with em all week. The steaks looking great as well. Nice outpost form!

Backlake pike - portaging with a group
Pikeslayer8 replied to Rod Caster's topic in General Discussion
Chad, Man, what a story, I loved it. Jumpin into the drink taking on this monster pike on his own playing field. What's with your buddies? Seems to me they could have been a bit more helpful, maybe hold the dang branch up. I'd hate for em to get wet and all, but come on, make yourself useful. Oh well, rookies, whadda do. Great report and awesome pictures. Did ya ever get your sandle back? -
If I had a resort, outpost camp, flying service, whatever have you. I think it might be a good idea to take extreme great care of Solopaddler and his family. Kinda mike good business sense don't it? Just sayin Oh and Pangle, great report, really enjoyed reading it. Great pictures too. Would like to hear more about that walleye meal preparation.

Pesto huh! Love the idea. At my restaurant we made 2 different kinds of pesto, basil and sun dried tomato. I would bet that either would be great, especially the basil. Really nice idea Chris!

Oh my!!! That does sound awesome. I will definitely give that a go. I also like Fishin Jesus's recipe as well with the mustard and sesame seeds. All great recipes. Now all I need is a great lake or an ocean or something. I hate to go to Costco.

Yea Mike, I think the brown sugar makes for great marinade, the syrup may be a better basting ingredient for better carmalization.

Way to go on the PB salmon, Chris!!!!! Sounds like you had a great outing.

Thanks BB! Give it a try, you got a freezer full of salmon.

I make a grilled salmon that I think is pretty damn tasty. I grilled it on my Egg but a Weber would work just as well. I marinated the salmon fillet after washing it well. Marinade consists of brown sugar and soy sauce with dill (doesn't have to be fresh) with a little salt and pepper. After marinating for a few hours, I place the fish into the grilling basket. Make sure that you have the thick part of the fillet in the basket that will be in the hottest part of the grill. My basket doesn't fit in the grill so I just close the lid with the handle sticking out. Works great. Grill @ 350*-400* for about 7-8 minutes per side. Continue to baste the marinade as it is cooking I like to have a bit of caramelizing especially on the thin belly side almost crunchy. Delicious!

How cute is that. Too funny. Thanks Simon, for sharing your weekend in what could only be described as one for the ages!

I don't care if you are an usher or the popcorn maker. Jet skies suck.

Wife keeps watching videos featuring little Jack. She tells me, I want to be fishing where this boy fishes! Jack deserves it.

Thanks for taking the time to give me your advise Capt Bruce. All good points! I've got some assets, but it would be a huge risk.

After reading your post, I called Roxann to let her know what you posted. She found that information very interesting. I thought it was funny that she already had the phone number to AJ's. Thank you oh Grt1 P.S. I will pm you later to give your wife, my wife's email address. I'd bet that they would find something to about

N.A.W. Sound Advice, and I appreciate it! I turn 50 next week. I think the quilt business would be a online affair as well. I need a hook or an angle. Maybe hosting high end quilt retreats. My wife has a pretty good name in this area and I would love for her to achieve her dream. P.S. We are both pretty impulsive

My wife and I have been looking at properties in the Dryden area. My thoughts are to open a Quilt Shop in that area and to do a lot of fishing. Maybe hire myself out as a camp cook (I wouldn't dare say guide on this fine forum) or get a regular job or put all the eggs in one basket and work the quilt shop. We really don't have enough money to retire but we are thinking about a change in venue. Wife works for a consulting firm that designs nuclear plants but she doesn't have degree. Her love is quilting and she is good at it. I work for consulting firm that farms me out to Colorado Dept. of Transportation as a material tester and inspector and I also don't have a degree. We are both good at what we do but feel like we are in a bit of a rut. Am I off my rocker or just seeing the light?

Hello everyone. I've been makin these Smoked Mashed Potatoes for some time. There is not much better in the smoked sides category. Cant get any easier, just gotta start off with very creamy mashed taters. Milk, sour cream, cream cheese and butter! I like to put it in a foil pan that fits the smoker your gonna use. I use my cheap brinkman. Works great for this! Depending how hot your fire, I stir in top smoke crust after 20-30 minutes and let it get smoke encrusted for 20-30 minutes more till done. Enjoy with your favorite smoked meat. Thanks for watching.

Shush. I'm after that secret coleslaw recipe?

I've been saying all along that this story would make for a good book. Mary says that she still possesses old pictures and letters from her time on the camp. She is currently married to George Kenny who is an Ojibway writer and author of the book "Indians Don't Cry". My brother is also a writer and author of the book "Love . Com" by RW Bennett. I think that a story of 2 completely diverse backgrounds as the Trapper and his wife who spent 5 years of their life in Wabakimi and a family of American Canadian fishing enthusiasts can have a connection that is Wabakimi so ingrain into the fiber of their being. Of course, there would have to be a few boat chases in the book.

Hey Johnt7 I made the Walleye Ceviche on my trip in Wabakimi. Everyone loved it. It was fantastic and my group will be doing this in future trips.

Solo, I considered a separate thread but I wanted my Wabakimi thoughts all in on place and yes I need pictures. Or it didn't happen. Spincast, I will email these and all the other pictures to the Trapper's wife. She asked me to get some before I left. Thanks for the kind word Catch and Johnnyb. Johnny, you know I love to cook in the great north. Roy, I hope my adventures that are so very important part of my life continue in Wabakimi and yes I do want to document it here.
