  1. It's not that tough. Go get a map of the treaty area, put it in your tackle box. The only other concern is how you plan on fishing? If you use normal methods, all is well. Even a status indian cannot use methods that damage the fish or the system, it's stated in the laws on the MNR website. Now, I'm not sure what that means exactly? Because most areas allow gill netting or other netting techniques. Maybe they are referring to using electricity or dynamite??? I have zero idea. I fish locally with a few status indians, and for the most part they all use a rod and respectful methods. They also choose to fish within the species guidlines as well, which I pay them alot of respect for. I'd imagine that this card gets abused quite abit, so it's nice to see them take this approach
  2. It's worth the cost once you find out what works for what species on what lake, lol. I usually just buy the packaged version though, and put in a resealable zip lock to prevent leakage. I love the 3" and 5" shad in a few colours for walleye. The leeches and crawlers work well also. The Chart. 5"minnows work well for me on 3/8 oz. jigs for bass and pike. A few of the products haven't produced too well for me, but you gotta give em a chance to find out. Now, if only they made the 3" minnows with a paddle tail, those would be absolute killer on Rainy river.
  3. Totally agree, some of these guys are crazy good! I'm watching again today on FLWoutdoors live feed. I'm cheering for Gary and Keith as well, but also for my buddy Pete Harsh. The bags weren't as big as I expected, hopefully they hit em hard today though. Looks like Keith is in 12th, Pete is in 26th, Parsons is in 38th, Brosdahl is in 38th as well. Ted Kakasaki is tied for last???
  4. Just a heads up if anyone wants to follow, or is bored at work, lol.
  5. Awesome! Always nice when your in need and someone helps out! Great fish to btw!!!
  6. lol, these "meetings" sound interesting. My point, from an addictive standpoint, the drug nicotine is fairly weak. Whether you quit or not, will depend on your mind frame and the decisions you make. Want to quit, quit. Will it be tough, maybe? It's different for everyone. But honestly, just don't question your resolve, stick by it. You'll be just fine
  7. Just a few thoughts Limey, no idea if this helps or hurts, I guess it depends on how you view it? Nicotine is not nearly as addictive as many people believe, and in fact, it can be a useful chemical at times. Using chemicals and smoke as a delivery method however is very harmful to ones health. For this reason, nicotine patches can be a great idea to help you quit "smoking tobacco". The "Act" of smoking is probably more addictive than the actually nicotine, thus referred to often as a habit, not a drug dependancy. a good example is to think "what would I do for a cig right now? Would you steal from your wife/child/mother". I sincerely hope the answer is no, and as long as it is, shows a difference between nicotine and other chemically mind altering compounds. The "Act" of smoking is similar to alcohol in a way. It's a risk/reward type of compound, and this aspect of the drug in question is fairly easy to break. But it will be the toughest part of this "habit" to kick. Simply reward yourself in other ways, and develope new, healthy "habits", just like you probably unintentionally did after quitting alcohol use. Anyhow, lol enough blabbering
  8. "Learn em young" as someone once said, lol. Seems a few around here are keen on jumping to conclusions.. Just a few though, overall the OFC community is absolutely awesome in many ways! I totally agree with anyone having any issues with a member the first attempt to bring up an issue should be via pm. Good on you for being prepared in that situation. Your on a role with the monster fish!!!
  9. There is a website that shows different areas for different bands. I can't think of the addy though, I'll see if I can find it for you to pass on to him My link
  10. He can fish for, and keep any type or amount of fish within his status area. Ie. if he is Rainy River first nations, he can fish, and keep any fish located on that area of his band. Status cards do not help anyone they are fishing with, only him. So if you fish with him, make sure YOUR fish are located on YOUR OWN stringer, separate from his. But.... I'd still tell him to contact his elders and or the MNR office to clarify any issues to him.
  11. As for the weight gain associated with quiting tobacco products, it's because nicotine is not only a stimulant but also exhibits strong nutrient partitioning effects(effects how calories and macronutrients are dealt with within the body). A good dose of fish oil daily will help resolve that issue, and help you become healthier in many facets anyhow. 6 grams per day, in divided doses with food. This can be bought at a health food store, or Wal-Mart, for about $10/bottle. Look for a product that contains 1 gram per softgel, with 180mg EPA, and 120mg of DHA (should be easy, this is the normal numbers for most products)
  12. Simply amazing, looks like one heck of a trip! I'm very jealous
  13. Out of all the reels I have, my Stradic CI4 is my favorite, but I choose not to use it for shore fishing. Instead I've searched for a reel that would take heavy abuse and still perform day in day out with tons of use. So far, the best I've found is a Okuma Avenger ABF40. Very nice reel, very cost efficient (scored mine for around $40). When I bought it and tested it out for the first time, it felt like a much more expensive reel, performed flawlessly and just felt great on the rod. Only thing I did was take it apart and oil/greased myself to prolong it's life. How long it will hold up to heavy use though I can't say because I've only been using mine for about 3 months. I'm sure members will chime in with some good options as well, but I am very happy with this reel, and at $40 it can't hurt you to give it a try
  14. Woot Woot! Lac Seul is an awesome fishery! Looks like some good times Limey!!!
  15. Looking for some feedback on this lodge if anyone has either visited the lodge, or fished the system themselves? Looks to me like some really good walleye, pike and perch fishing. Anyhow, any help, thoughts, experiences at or near this lodge would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Nice!!! Great fish
  17. Oh really? I never knew that, thanks. Maybe the MNR doesn't enforce the regs in this particular case because it wasn't their doing? For the record, its doesn't bother me to see people taking photos of sturgeon, and practising C&R, but it is stated in the regs you cannot do this in zone 5. I myself have caught 4-5 sturgeon, but I've never targeted them however.I would hate to see people keeping them though. Last week I seen packaged smoked sturgeon at the grocery store? I'd assume that maybe someone has a certain license to do this?
  18. I guess it's give and take. From everything I've read, experienced and heard, seems inconsistency might be the issue. My experience has been great, and I've had zero issues with breakage. Haven't broke my line in close to three months. Sounds like your experience is horrible though
  19. Locally, I've seen CO's turn blind eyes to people targeting sturgeon here, even though it's closed ALL YEAR. That had me confused, at first I actually thought a person could target them, based on what I had seen, Of course I have the regs so after I checked I knew better(this is when I very first moved here). But still, right down from my house there is a place locally dubbed as "sturgeon alley", and it gets fished all year. A nearby tackle shop has literally hundreds of photos of sturgeon all caught in a small area here???? This has me more concerned then bass in all honesty, because sturgeon numbers are pretty low, and it takes along time for these fish to grow in comparison to bass. The CO's come through frequently and seem to have a handle on people drinking in the boat or over limiting on walleye, I wonder why they don't enforce the rules in regard to sturgeon???? I should also mention that this happens on the American side as well
  20. That would be one awesome party trick
  21. I've found them in walleye, as well as tape worms. But to your point, I'd say yes. That and walleye will typically be in deeper water, or faster moving water. I'd think the more stationary the water, the warmer and increase infestation. Not 100% sure about that though. I must say I was pretty creeped out be the tapeworms, but removed them and continued on eating them. No issues yet, but if it grows to be 30ft long inside of me and pops outta my mouth while trying to eat a steak, I'll be sure to let everyone know
  22. Sorry mercman, for some reason I was thinking of Sufix performance. I've never used the two mono's you mentioned
  23. Lots of good points there, and I agree on alot of them. No offence to anyone, but I find the OOS bass and nesting issue quite ridiculous, and mainly for the simple fact that only one part of a large chain is being discussed. Big fish, small fish etc all forage on eggs, minnows etc, thats nature. If I made the same argument for crawfish, I'd be laughed at, yet, it is the EXACT same thing. One thing to ponder specifically for bass, is that although many target them, how many anglers actually keep bass to eat? I'd be willing to bet not many, at least not frequently. Now reverse that with walleye. Seems the populations are fine, even though these fish are kept much more frequently than bass, correct? Should I also target pike mainly to keep another fishes populations "under control", in a completely non scientific aspect? The fact is, there probably isn't one of us on this board that actually knows these things about a certain body of water. It's all speculation, all of it. If I keep a female walleye tomorrow, that alot of eggs that won't get made next year, correct? It's really not the case at all. Seem to me that an argument, whether right or wrong, needs to take all species into account to make a sound decision.
  24. lol, I'm horrible when it comes to smoking. I focus too hard when I'm fishing, so I don't smoke. Then when I land a fish, it's a race to get a smoke in before wetting a line once again. I'll try my best to take some smiley pics next time without that horrible habit wrecking the pics:thumbsup_anim: As for the lamprey, I'm not sure if they actually damage anything??? But, its odd to never see them, them BOOM! They are everywhere. I've also seen some other minnow size creatures taking nips at the fish near the boat, or near shore when landing a fish??? No idea what they are, but I've never seen those either??? They take tiny little bites out of the fish, and seem to target the gills. They dash in, take a chomp then swim away. I'd be curious to see if anyone knows what those are??? I guess there about 3 inches long, and appear to be silver sided with a darker top, but they swim in and out so fast it's hard to even tell???
