NF any enviromental engineers on board?
manitoubass2 replied to manitoubass2's topic in General Discussion
Hahahah. Well here is the deal. Im currently working at new gold mine. The company has decided to offer me a position with one of their enviromental engineers. Already know the guy and worked with him on another project unrelated, great guy great boss. Anyhow, this means a pretty good pay raise, new truck including fuel card, and a desk in the tbay office. Downside is i would be travelling(not far) but my boundries would basically be north to ear falls, as far as thunder bay, and also in the dryden area. Im very tempted(fishing possibilies) also from what my "future" boss tells me its a cakewalk. Lotsa work at home on a laptop just running numbers. Not a tonne of travel but some( a week here a week there kinda thing) He says his area is mainly scouting and accessing areas for wildlife native to the area, as well as insects/plants/trees etc. -
Cust curious... If so I would have a few questions for you.

About 15 years ago there was a huge explosion of them on rainly lake. Ive never seen anything like it. They would literally turn the sky black as huuuge flocks flew north near the evening. Ive heard stories of many people pouring gas on nests/eggs and shooting them whether its legal or not. Ive never seen it done however. Now its not nearly as bad, although tou do still see small flocks from time to time. No idea why or how they decreased in numbers so dramatically

Maybe a tad but when I was in grande prairie I watched them throw up a fully functional city block in two weeks lol. When money and oil is involved things move pretty darn fast!
-
Not to look too forward ahead but watch just how awesome canadians can be. When the dust settles I say fort mac is rebuilt in less than a year

Damn!!! Beauty!!!

I have no knowledge of these lakes/camps but like OI said put in your plugs lol. The time my buddy forgot it almost cost us our lives

With braid(at least for me) I can feel when the fish is gonna jump so I have like 2-3 seconds to tighten the line Ill still lose the odd one though but not very often
-
No prob. Everyone hates oil/gas etc until they realize they cannot live without it. Im not gonna lie, these companies do some bad crap. But they also do some amazing things Ying and yang i suppose. But my word should be taken with a grain of salt. I left 7 years ago and have no idea what has changed

??? And many companies are continuing payment of employees

Frig, not to take away from fort mac but now we have a pretty large fire on the ontario/manitoba boarder Heavy winds have travelled the smoke here and shes purdy thick! Also, you guys see westjet was helping fly people outta fort mac and air canada flight went from $600 to $4300 over night to get outta fort mac???

Yes sir!!!! Many of my friends and old co workers or out there now assisting in any way they can. My hats off to all those kind souls. Trudeau better step up quick and realize the sevarity. Citizens are making the government look like idiots(once again) Canadians are awesome!

Yep. I just mean it goes to a crazy level lol. The amount of safety that goes into these sights is utterly astounding. But H2S is so deadly, those rig rats go off and people are jumping off 30-60ft drops if they have too. Better chance of survival falling that height than H2S exposure. I know its not there yet, but this will be a major hurdle in rebuilding fort mac. You cant even dig in alberta without the prispect of encountering H2S

Anyhow kudos to all those helping with gas, food, medication etc to get those folks outta dodge! I hate to see such a tragedy but good ol canadians step right up and help their fellow man?
-
I know it as fact. I was a part if that at one point. Totally agree I fired many, many people on the spot just for not wearing a personal H2S monitor(its a requirement) Plus we have rig rats etc set up everywhere. Any sign of H2S and its full bore safety mode Anyone not familiar with a rig rat, its a sensitive devise to detect H2S, when it does it sound an alarm that is likely louder than anything youve heard on earth
-
H2S would be killing mass amounts of people if we didnt properly trained to protect well sites That is a dangerous gas, 20 to 40 seconds of a clear, odourless gas and you are dead. Im very glad Im no longer working in the field as a safety consultant

This is nuts! Ive got lots of friends up there and most of them are volenteering as of now.
