  1. Did you see the neighborhood and big house he lives in? Yeah, a white suburbanite definitely has lots to riot about.
  2. As bass season draws nearer, I will be trying out some local areas by the waterfront. I've never come across these species before, and would like to catch one of them, so I'm wondering if bass baits like 3" grubs would work?
  3. I don't want to derail the topic (too late) but I was fishing a couple of days ago and was asked by some young person on a bicycle to show my license. Can someone other than OPP and COs fine you? (btw I did have mine...)
  4. i've caught rock bass on them
  5. I am going camping starting the last day of June, and am wondering what I should pick up for smallmouth bass. I've had success on twisty tails and yum dingers.
  6. $15 to $20 seems like a steep price from some plastics, wondering if it's worth it as I've never used them before. I picked up a small container $6 for pan fish.
  7. Reread the OP, the test was about targeting those who really don't know much about the regulations. Obviously if someone has an intention to break the law, they're going to do it. With the current system, it's "pay for a license, and here are some rules but they're kinda over there and you should really have a look at them." I've read on this board of COs issuing warnings instead of fines. There would be no need for warnings if having a look through the book was mandatory, as you were consciously breaking the law. I also don't see how someone could afford fishing equipment and tackle but couldn't afford a $XX test, but even then I made no mention of it costing anything (although a small price is not avoidable).
  8. Avoid Island lake on the weekend, heavy traffic.
  9. Using that logic, what's the point of having any rules and regulations at all?
  10. So if we were to get rid of the need for car exams, would the amount of accidents stay the same or be greater?
  11. I don't see why people keep mentioning how children won't be able to fish as those under 18 and over 65 don't require a license. People with disabilities also do not require a license.
  12. Good point, an open book test would at least expose people to the rules, and would attempt to educate them on exceptions, limits, and slot sizes.
  13. Let's say before applying for your first time, you would need to take a test, and a passing grade would requiret at least 75%. The answers would all be found in the most recent version of the regs (however it is obviously not an open book test). The questions would not be region specific (such as what is the slot size for walleye on lake X) but rather questions every angler should know, such as the minimum distance fishing downstream of a dam. The reason for this test is that when it comes to certain fishermen not playing by the rules, the top excuse seems to be that they didn't know and that we need to spend more money on education. With a test, less money would go toward education and more toward enforcement. Even those new to the sport would perhaps learn something important. As I said, the test would only be a one time thing.
  14. Lumix ts2, a bit on the pricey side ($300) but if you're spending triple digits may as well spend a bit more and get something of quality. If you're looking for a rugged/shockproof/waterproof camera, avoid fuji, their warranty doesn't cover water damage lol. I've also read reviews that the olympus cameras take too long to turn on.
  15. This is great. Wish I could make it, but every long weekend is a family camping trip up north.
  16. Those freshwater shrimp are awesome for aquariums (assuming she's holding a scud).
  17. I have a 5'6" ultra light fenwick, around $60. I just found a random reel lying around the house and am using it, since for now it's just for catching panfish and small bass at a local pond. I'm using 4 lb fireline crystal, casts amazing far.
  18. I have a feeling the city of Oakville passed that by-law due to the amount of garbage left behind by fishermen. Doesn't make it right, but people need to pick up their crap.
  19. There is a marina west of the centre island bridge on the north side, it's fenced off with a no trespassing sign so you shouldn't have any trouble if you keep out. I have seen OPP patrolling on Monday so it's best not risking it. Fishing is great, have had success on every outing this year, good luck and post a report following your adventure.
  20. Sharks are cool, but there's that whole "get your fins caught off and thrown back into the water alive and die a slow death" risk.
  21. Which would you be? I'd probably be a carp, they live long, grow huge (not having to deal with predators), don't use much effort to get food, can live in most environments, and just relax under the sun without giving a damn. Sturgeon live long too, but they can't handle a few wimpy dams.
  22. Do people who trap for sport (not including those who want to transport wildlife or keep it for study) really take a quick picture and release the rabid mammal on its way? Sounds like a weak comparison to me.
  23. Hey guys, I'm wondering if you know of any CAs that have CR in effect, fishing tends to be better in these locations and the fish tend to be bigger. I think Terra Cotta has catch and release bass fishing.
  24. Go to my spot a 3:30 pm, and had noticed a huge carp just cruising along. Luckily, I had brought corn with me. Unluckily, I was in such a hurry that I didn't realized I had picked up cream corn so rather than taking a shot in the dark with soggy corn, I decided to try my luck with pike. 10 minutes pass after I switch to pike mode and I land this one: When I brought it to shore, it thrashed its head so hard it ripped off the hook from my #5 mepps comet. Seeing as how that was my last good mepps (I pack light when backpacking along the shore), I switched it up to a five of diamonds spoon. The weeds were too thick, and funny enough, I had a big pike follow it with 2 feet of cabbage trailing (I heard they're aggressive this time of year and the scars on them are from pike attacks. Maybe it was getting ready to strike what it thought was one of its kin?). I had snagged it and lost it, so switched it to a green jawbreaker spoon. Never had luck with it, and today was no different. I had a husky jerk imitation bait in my small tacklebox that I've never tried, so decided to put it on. Was glad I did, because 20 minutes after putting it on it was fish on. Put up a 2 minute fight (would stay calm until I tried to land it, would then swim away). Luckily I didn't forget to measure it this time, turned out to be a 23 inch pike. It was hooked in two places, but with a good pair of pliers and a quick resuscitation it was back in the water. Was a great day to be out. I finally got a pair of polarized sunglasses, Maui Jim Ho'opika in bronze colour. Was able to spot 3 pike follows, a bowfin (huge one), a couple of cruising pike, and the aforementioned carp. I'd recommend them, they perform great and look good without being too flashy.
  25. You would need to get the MNR involved to get rid of the pike. Ken Whillans CA had introduced pike, and 3 years ago they had eliminated most of them (but I doubt they got all of them). As mentioned, it's illegal to waste game fish.
