  1. Hit the Lower Grand on Friday after work.Casted for about an hour without a sniff so we decided to troll. Then the action picked up to many sheep head to count I dont know how any thing can survive with those things eating every thing We even picked up 3 cats on walley divers trolling. We saw alot of BIG carp sunning them selfs just below the surface.Around 8;00pm the sheep head stopped hitting and the eyes finally woke up picked up 7 decent eaters the biggest around 19" kept 3 for Sunday dinner released the others and lost a few to boot. All in all a great day out.The date on the camera is wrong. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/JamieJen/100_0696.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/JamieJen/100_0699.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/Jam.../100_0692-1.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/JamieJen/100_0697.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/JamieJen/100_0701.jpg
  2. Im headed to Caledonia Friday for some pike I love the Grand you never know whats on the other end of the line.
  3. Doesnt using a floro leader defeat the purpose of using braid,I thought braids biggest advantage was its sensativtey and smaller dia,
  4. There has been alot of talk about braid over mono ,But what about colour selection power pro offers moss green ,high vis yellow ,white, and red.How do you determine what colour to use ? What colour line do you use for crank baits and jigs for walley and small mouth are my main question. Jamie
  5. Iam looking at purchasing a drift sock it suggests a 36" sock would do for a 16-18 foot boat but I have the chance to purchase a 48" sock rated for a 22-26foot boat for $15.00 cheaper than the smaller sock.My boat is a 17.6 foot fish and ski so do you think the 48" is to big ?I do alot of drift fishing for walley and bass so I thought the slower the better would improve fishing. Thanks
  6. I would have called being he knew he wasnt supposed to keep it
  7. I have fished a small lake in the LandO Lakes region for close to 25yrs I have seen alot of changes in the fishing over the years. It was nothing to catch 50 walley in a morning then the walley fishing dropped off to one or two a weekend if your lucky and then the pike population boomed and people started to keep them now there numbers are down too,the bass population in this lake is crazy (not that I am complaining) but I think if there was better sellective harvest of all species over the years there would be a stronger population of pike and walley today. There are so many bass in the lake I dont think what pike and walley are left in the lake even get a chance to get to your bait.
  8. Thats easy I have it sent to my shop
  9. Thanks guys some great tips I will have to set up a secret account so the wife doesnt find out I am buying even more fishing stuff .She doesnt realize there is no such thing as to many lures or rods
  10. Do you guys buy off Ebay? I have been looking for a while and there seems to be some pretty good deals but then again some deals seem to good to be true.I have a hard time spending my hard earned money on something I cant pick up and inspect before putting the money down.
  11. Thanks for the input guys maybe I will just buy one for now and if I dont like it I can always post it in the classifieds .
  12. I was just thinking the same thing this weekend. After pricing out the guides, binding and appoxies I oppted to have a tackle shop do it for me It worked out to $5.00 to $8.00 a guide for him to do it which saves me money in the long run since I dont have to pay twice after screwing it up and taking it to him to fix anyways.
  13. Has any one here used these rods I was looking at them today at a local tackle store,$25.00 . graphite 6'6 medium action cork handle. It seems very sesantive and light weight .I thought this would make a good jigging rod for walley .
  14. I get the eye roll every time i book my FORCE in for repair or service,I have a 1989 50 hp force and have had a few small issues but nothing major.I have been told that if there is a major problem that Force are usually not worth the money to fix,
  15. I dont think its all based just on weight it also has to do with the added stress on the transom due to the increased torque of a bigger motor
  16. I pass over the Grand evey day and its a wash out very high and muddy but thats not to say you cant still do some fishing.
  17. Maybe thats part of my problem I figured if I cant find them in the spawning areas I head to deep water,I didnt realize they stuck to the shore line .I always figure bass and shore line.
  18. Thanks everyone for the tips this will be my wifes first May 24 walley trip so I really wanted her to get into some fish,I figure the more she likes it the more likely Iam convincing her into letting me buy the 21' lund I want,
  19. Just wondering what your go to bait and locations are for spring walley.I seem to have very little succes in the spring and I dont know why. This May 24 my wife and I have a trip planned for Big Gull lake which I have never fished before. From what I have read it is a fairly deep and clear lake. There are some small rivers running into the lake and a large narrows connecting it to a smaller section of the lake. Are shallow 5-10 fow current areas my best bet or should I be looking for main lake structure,All I ever seem to catch in the spring is smallies pan fish and cigar sized walley if any thing at all.Somtimes we troll worm harnesses but most of the time we drift with jigs yellow ,orange and chartruese, what am I doing wrong??????? Thanks Here is a map of the lake we are goinig to http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/Jam...ig20Gull-FH.gif
  20. I agree with NBR run two transducers one mounted to the transom and one mounted to the bowmount trolling motor,I added a bow mount to my boat last year and find its helped me stay on the edges of weed lines and drop offs with greter accuracy than running the transom mounted transducer.
  21. Thank god !!!! I thought it was just me I had my wife read this thread to prove Im normal (at least on this site)After my wife and kids are taken care of any free time and money goes into fishing its all I think about and want to do,just 20 min in the summer along the river can melt away an entire day of stress for me .
  22. Those are great looking baits gbfisher you are truly talented I screw up painting lead head jigs
  23. Just wondering how many guys out there make there own lures ,jigs, plastics,is there really a big savings or is it more of a hobby thing to pass time while not fishing.I made my own ball jig mold at work ,the mold took me less than 1/2 hr on the CNC mill and I can get all the lead I want for free so I figure it works out to about 4 to 10 cents a jig for me to make my own depending on the type of hook I use. Can I spray paint them or will the smell effect the the jigs proformance? If any one is wondering where to get free or cheap lead I get it from my mechanic I melt down the used tire weights they use to balance rims , Fishingnut
  24. Well my buddie invited me up to his cottage to do some crappie fishing this past weekend.I forgot my auger so we used his 5". The fishing slowed down so I dropped down a 3" chartreuse mister twister tipped with a minnow to the bottom in 35fow ,I thought maybe some walley might be around. Then I went back to my second hole were I continued jigging.Next thing I hear is line pealing off my other rod .Luckily the rod holder wedged in the hole.I set the hook and it felt like I was on the bottom then it took off after at least 10 min it finally came up it was a huge pike .Finally after 8 or so more runs I finally got its face into the holeI had my neoprene gloves on so I managed to get my thumb in its mouth but it wouldnt budge I cant believe it I hook the pike of my life time and its to big to get through the hole . I had my gaff with me but I didnt want to mangle it just for a picture so I pushed it down the hole again and yelled at my buddie to start another hole next to it , so what does he do, first crank on the auger it slipps off the ice hitting my line SNAP goes my line and the fish is gone. We did manage lots of crappie perch and smaller pike for the weekend so it wasnt a total loss.I will never ever forget my 8" auger again.Has any one else had fish on they couldnt fit up the hole?
  25. I know I dont have many posts under my belt but I only post when I can contribute and its usually by PM so I am not a lurker looking for a free ride. Any ways I am looking at trying Big Gull lake for May 24 weekend (guys trip for pike and walley) and then booking 2 weeks in late August for my wife and two young kids.We have been looking at Camps Bay resort it looks very nice I was just wondering if any one has fished the lake or stayed at this resort?Any info would be great I dont mind putting the leg work in to find the fish ,I really enjoy searching them out and trying different things but I dont want to waste my first real vacation with my family in over ten years on a fishless lake or poor resort. My wife and kids love the outdoors and to fish almost as much as I do so its very important to me to find a good lake and clean resort.Thank You
