It’s a cheap $160 .410 single shot break action I got for my son a couple years ago at Cabelas, not even sure what brand. I think it’s fixed full choke, it works though. I waaaaay prefer fishing but the bird hunting here is so easy most days, something to do for a couple weeks after putting the boat away, once the snow flies it becomes a lot like you describe about Peterborough, they are elusive at best.

Hi all, Yesterday was just too windy for fishing, gusting to 65kmh, and the wind direction was all wrong for my shore spot so went 30kmh north of Dryden for some chickens around 2pm. I saw five and got five in an hour and a half, got home before dark….perfect.

This has been going on for years, I call them my pet pike(s).

It happened again(kinda) tonight.

Yeah, it’s a Diawa Accudepth, it telescopes from 8’6” to 6’6”. Apparently it’s a trolling rod but I used to use it for casting lighter spinnerbaits for musky. Not rated for lures more than 1oz but fires those small Savage Alien Eels ok, can also fit it in the passenger side of the truck better than my other pike/musky rods.

Yeah, unhooking was actually very quick and easy, I did however drop the fish, not the most graceful release.

You just described England year round, there’s more than one reason I moved over here…. Lol

I hear ya on that, but even with all the snow and ice we get here winter is too long in my opinion, I’m getting old.

Hi all, Still enjoying the mild weather here, been a great October. Got out for a bit of jigging for whatever was around in the pike bays near home on Lake Wabigoon before spending the late afternoon casting for pike, lots of fish of all sorts and sizes.

Hi all, Weather was great again yesterday, had to go...lake was calling...lol. I boated a bunch of crappie and quite a few nice bass on the brush piles, nicest smallie was a 19"er. I did a bit of scouting around shore lines I don't usually pay much attention to, found some interesting structure holding fish(crappie, bass and walleye) always fun finding new stuff. Got a really cool picture from the Active target of a complete pine tree lying on the bottom in around 30'FOW. Had to get back to get my kid from school but decided to spend half an hour at the entrance to the creek and cast for pike, got a bunch of snot rockets and missed a doozie.

Nah… not my scene man.

Hi all, Managed to go for a short shore session up the road, intention was walleye but I usually bring a heavy rod to clear the pike out of the area as there are always one or two sitting by the ledge waiting to ambush your catch as you reel in. Had about 5 dink walleye in 2 hours but at least got a bit of action with a couple decent pike.

Hi all, After a chilly morning doing yard work I couldn’t resist, the lake was flat calm and bluebird skies so I texted my neighbour who was up for it in 2 seconds flat…. Lol. We headed out to the brushpiles and had non stop crappie for 2 hours with a couple small walleye and one decent one. Few more walleye suspended over the basin that would only investigate a jig and minnow, ended up with the bigger one on power bait minnow. Some decent weather ahead so will keep the boat ready a bit longer.

Wow…you were really paying attention! Cool! Yeah, anything bright works good in the stained water, however I did really well with black jigs this year, mind you the bite was so aggressive some days you would probably catch them with a Smokey tied to some anchor rope.

Hi all, Been having a blast with the crappie this year here on Wabigoon lake. The FFS (Active Target) really helps narrow down which spot to sit on and its pretty fun and informative to watch fish reactions and behaviours in real time. Nothing fancy, jig and minnow on light gear and line.

Lol…I was saying try a jig and minnow for her, maybe confuse her into biting… lol
