  1. Oh jeez, I don’t wanna ever go through, not even up to my ankles… lol.
  2. Managed to squeak in an hour at the bridge after getting all my Xmas shopping done for another year, good way to unwind from the madness. Got a walleye supper out of the deal too.

  3. 8” inches…..missed 3…..caught 1.
  4. Hi all, Went down to the lake with my son to check the ice….close to shore there was 2 feet of snow on top of 3” of ice, only 2” was good ice…. Not even gonna go further out to the bit that froze later. On the way up to the house Jack asks if the Bravo still runs, so we went and dug it out from the back of the garage. Hadn’t run it for 2 years, but 10 pulls or so later and she fired up! Dumped 10” of snow last night so we took it for a spin in the yard………
  5. They definitely make a difference but tire prices are insane! But the thought of losing a loved one is also unthinkable. Maybe some kind of government rebate and reduced insurance premium would help, whether or not it is made mandatory.
  6. It’s very sad. On the other extreme I remember spear fishing off the beaches in the Caribbean as a kid, literally wade 10’ into the water and there were red and black coral ferns the size of an ice shack, every colour living corals everywhere, sea grass fields and every species of fish to make the mind boggle and senses overload, have been back to those same shores 40 years later and it’s all gone, nothing but dead , bleached coral and a few hardy species of reef fish sparsely distributed. In behind what mangroves have been spared by developement is plastic piled 3’ high, it is literally disgusting. Many factors at play, all contributed to by us, sad my son will never experience what I was privileged to see.
  7. Yeah, last year was insane. We had no snow on the ground anywhere on Xmas eve………
  8. Hi all, Our bay iced over last night, some areas of open water in the main basin visible from our shore but with three days of light winds and -20C temps midweek should lock up everything. Bit of a bummer that we have 10cm to 15cm of snow forecast tomorrow to insulate the new ice, but it’s better than the three feet some parts of Ontario are getting, you can keep that sh$&! I was looking back at my first ice post on here from last year, we are a day short of 2 weeks later this year, hopefully we have an ice road before Xmas. Might get out somewhere on Sunday, will post if I do.
  9. I forgot to say I’m currently using a Lowrance Active target, the older version.
  10. Thanks Crowman, I’m just getting into this whole FFS thing and have been a bit bummed out that everything I love about the Humminbird set up on my boat would mean a compromise in when it came to ffs, hopefully it’s all that it’s promising to be, having ffs hooked into iPilot Link would be deadly.
  11. Sad news, condolences to his family and friends.
  12. It’s a cheap $160 .410 single shot break action I got for my son a couple years ago at Cabelas, not even sure what brand. I think it’s fixed full choke, it works though. I waaaaay prefer fishing but the bird hunting here is so easy most days, something to do for a couple weeks after putting the boat away, once the snow flies it becomes a lot like you describe about Peterborough, they are elusive at best.
  13. Hi all, Yesterday was just too windy for fishing, gusting to 65kmh, and the wind direction was all wrong for my shore spot so went 30kmh north of Dryden for some chickens around 2pm. I saw five and got five in an hour and a half, got home before dark….perfect.
  14. This has been going on for years, I call them my pet pike(s).
  15. It happened again(kinda) tonight.
  16. Yeah, it’s a Diawa Accudepth, it telescopes from 8’6” to 6’6”. Apparently it’s a trolling rod but I used to use it for casting lighter spinnerbaits for musky. Not rated for lures more than 1oz but fires those small Savage Alien Eels ok, can also fit it in the passenger side of the truck better than my other pike/musky rods.
  17. Yeah, unhooking was actually very quick and easy, I did however drop the fish, not the most graceful release.
  18. Hi all, Days off just at the right time, clearing up before the snow hits and getting stuff power washed while the hose still works and ending the day with a few casts up the road in the evenings.
  19. You just described England year round, there’s more than one reason I moved over here…. Lol
  20. I hear ya on that, but even with all the snow and ice we get here winter is too long in my opinion, I’m getting old.
  21. Hi all, Still enjoying the mild weather here, been a great October. Got out for a bit of jigging for whatever was around in the pike bays near home on Lake Wabigoon before spending the late afternoon casting for pike, lots of fish of all sorts and sizes.
  22. Nice job, beautiful looking walleye.
  23. Hi all, Weather was great again yesterday, had to go...lake was calling...lol. I boated a bunch of crappie and quite a few nice bass on the brush piles, nicest smallie was a 19"er. I did a bit of scouting around shore lines I don't usually pay much attention to, found some interesting structure holding fish(crappie, bass and walleye) always fun finding new stuff. Got a really cool picture from the Active target of a complete pine tree lying on the bottom in around 30'FOW. Had to get back to get my kid from school but decided to spend half an hour at the entrance to the creek and cast for pike, got a bunch of snot rockets and missed a doozie.
