you cant really call any brand garbage everyone has personal preferances i like abu and pflugger alot i think they are the most dependable reels i have ever bought and the dont break the bank i would just suggest shopping around im dont the same thing except looking for a spinning reel

i use that reel and i love it its the lowest end of the max series there is a silver max as well thats exceptional but i only paid 59 bucks for mine at grimsby bait the silvermax was only 80 or 90 there as well

i think its better if you cant do it at home i took the test at the catfish derby and passed it when i was 11 or 12 without cheating and all my friends from high school and the ones now did it at home a cheated which pissed me off i studied when i was younger so i could get it and all theses other people just look up the answers or give the person doing the test a few extra bucks and they get it whit out doing anything i think its good they are ending home testing

by the looks of it your boat should be repair able but if the fire was hot enough your boat might have warped and popped some rivits so where ever you bring it for repair let them know and you might be better to get the seems around the hole welded just in case the heat warped part of the boat good luck hope you can fix it
