If I have a 3500lb trailer that says 2" on the tongue
fisher replied to fisher's topic in General Discussion
Of course I will get a bigger ball ... I asked because I did not know my ball was too small until now. You'd think my wife would have said something! LOL -
If I have a 3500lb trailer that says 2" on the tongue

After some internet searching you are right - this is a no-no. I switched trailers after a few years of getting my boat and took it for granted that the place that sold me the trailer would have noticed the difference in ball and the tongue. It is not until now that I noticed the difference. Hopefully this thread might trigger others to double check their ball and tongue. -
Getting a new hitch on a new truck and noticed my existing hitch on my old truck has a 1 7/8" ball but the tongue on my boat trailer says 3500 lb, Class II, and 2"....is/was that okay? I figure if I get another hitch I might want to keep it at the 1 7/8" ball so I can use the hitch to trailer smaller trailers that may only have a 1 7/8" tongue. Thanks.

The lake on the west has some catfish...at least it did about 10 years ago. I only caught small ones when I fished it a few times back then although I am sure some of them have grown since then. I remember at times the water had these floating chunks of something that looked like a sewer had backed up into it. It looked gross at times. Good luck.

Well after deciding to book the cottage on Lake ST John (which I had asked opinions for on another thread), I found out that they booked it on us for the dates we wanted. I now found something better on Stocco Lake in Tweed. Anyone have any opinions, tips on this lake? Thanks.

We are looking at renting a cottage on Lake St John for mid-July and was wondering what the fishing is like and any tips on any of the species we can expect? I read there is an airport there - is it noisy on the lake because of it? Thanks for any info.

Try trolling with a white spinner bait, tipped with a black Berkley Leech in 6-8 feet of water (just above the weedline) and not only could you catch a muskie, but you will more than likely catch a few walleye too. I like the shore line opposie of Port Perry up to Goreski's and then back. This time a few years ago, we did just that and managed to catch a ton of walleye and a couple of muskies.

If it was as you stated, they should have called 911 right then and there. The guy was getting abusive and threatening your safety since he was holding your anchor line with a knife to it. (An anchor is part of your safety requirement in a boat) Police would have no choice but to respond quickly for fear of the situation escalating to the point where someone gets hurt.

Just a friendly reminder: If you have overdrive, make sure you have it off when you tow.

That must of scared the crap out of you. Now, how'd it taste? To answer your question, I am sure the current season goes until May 31.

Update... Spoke to the Marina and they said there is low compression from one of the pistons. !? I just rebuilt the motor with them last year ... They did say that they will warrant their work and that their plan is to open up the motor in the next few days to see what is happening. That made me feel somewhat good ... I forgot to ask him if he thought the low compression would cause the motor to stall at top end. Oh well, I guess I'll wait to see what he says. Anyone think the low compression on one piston would cause the motor to stall at top end?

Thanks Bernie...that makes sense.

Thanks for all the replies. The vent was open in the tank. If it was a fuel line problem (ie. bulb, etc..) would it not cause an issue while at the lower speeds as well? I was having issues only at the highest speed. As for the connector, I am not sure what you call it but, it has a clip that connects the fuel line from the tank to the motor. And there is a long thin metal adapter that connects the line to the tank (you twist it slightly to keep it in place)

Took the boat to Simcoe for a spin yesterday to make sure all is working well. Started up the motor and it sounded good. Put it in gear and slowly increased the speed every few minutes going faster and faster each time. All was well until I hit top speed when after about 10 seconds, the motor shuts down completely. Started it up again and same thing - quits at top end but runs fine at lower speeds. After two more times quitting at top end, I decide to call it the day before I get stranded on the lake. On the way home I dropped it off at the marina I deal with. Based on my description of events, they suspect a number of things could cause the problem: - bad tank - bad hose (bulb) - fuel issue (water in the fuel) - activator?? (not sure if I heard right or what that is) They ruled out old gas since I emptied the tank last fall and just filled up earlier that day from Shell. They are busy so it may take some time to look at it. What do you guys think? Any ideas?

I stayed there a few years ago. I actually caught a small Baracuda right on the beach in front of the hotel. I was using a rapala fish bait. However during the week, I mostly caught smaller fish using calamari, etc.. that I got from the Hotel restaurants. If you get a chance, you may want to go to BassPro (or equivalent store) and get yourself a few of these very heavy silver jigging baits in the ice fishing section for $3 or so that you can use (just toss them out and retreive fast) for barracuda. Good luck.

And watch those blades - they are sharp! I learned the hard way when I barely touched one and immediately began to bleed - very deep cut. Now I always have the guard on when not in use and always keep it away from children.

I think I found him or her...! Just google search the plate - or it may be just a coincidence? http://sendgasmoney.blogspot.com/2008/02/f...-to-sunday.html

As promised, I am following up on my original post. I got the Ice Cube that I ordered from Ebay last night and am happy/relieved to confirm the Website claiming these items being sold on Ebay as being inferior product/lower weight is incorrect. The box, which was from the Manufacturer (Eastman), said right on it that the weight of the Ice Cube and 2 Chairs was 35LBS. I set up the shelter in about a minute as claimed, and am sure the next time it will be even quicker. Take down is so easy, it literally folds itself down so compact easily fitting in the carrying bag it came with. This unit is huge and spacious (81 inches tall) and very wide. I could fit a couple of lawn chairs in it if I wanted and still have room for gear and the holes. I am very happy with the purchase and now can't wait to use it on ice. Right now, my kids are using it in the basement as a playhouse.

Someone yesterday or the day before posted a link to a website stating Eastman's Ice Cube shelters sold on Ebay may not have the same quality or fabric. The link claims that the standard, tougher Ice Cube weighs 23 lbs on its own, yet there are sellers on Ebay selling the same item with 2 folding chairs with the same 23 lb weight (how could this be with the weight of the 2 chairs unless the fabric/material of the shelter is inferior). Here is the site that was posted ... http://redrockstore.com/Catalog/index.php?...ion=show_detail Well, my luck, I had bought one of these items off Ebay just two weeks before and have yet to get it. BUT I got it from a seller with thousands of ratings and at 100% satisfaction so I wasn't too worried. Despite not being too concerned, instead of waiting for the item to inspect/weigh it myself, I decided to email the seller and question him on that site's claims. Here is his response.... From: [email protected] Subject: RE: Eastman Ice Cube 4 Person Fish Shanty Shelter New NIB Date: Mon, 17 Nov 2008 19:10:13 -0600 Frank, I have sold this item with and without the chairs. The article is correct that the shelter alone weights about 25 pounds shipped. The shelter I shipped to you with the chairs weighed 41 pounds. I offer discontinued and overstocked items from major retailers. The specifications are clearly marked on the box. I suspect that this retailer is upset that the items are being sold at or below the price at which he purchased them and he can not compete. Thanks for the information, XXXXXXX I feel much better now (even though I was not too concerned to begin with) but I guess I won't know for sure until I get the item which should be in a few days according to the post office link where I can track the shipping. I will update this post then.

I wonder if putting an OPP hat on the dash, or even a decal on the window would keep them away from tampering with your car. Otherwise just keep the door unlocked and leave nothing valuable inside. nice fish.

My 2 buddies and I started today eagerly anticipating our first time fishing for Walleye in the Bay of Quinte. We had booked a charter with Lloyd of U & Me Guide Service and the day finally arrived. We met Lloyd at 6 am this morning and were soon off on our quest for some world famous Quinte walleye/pickeral fishing. A bit apprehensive of the weather forecast, Lloyd assured us that his boat was very capable of handling the wind and waves. Well did it ever handle the weather and waves. The covered cabin and comfortable seats made me reconsider what I am going to do with my boat next year. Definitely will invest in a wind protector of some sort and may even look at a bigger boat (did I mention we were comfortable). Anyway to the fishing. After about an hour of trolling, I asked a question that should have been asked before our trip began....I asked if anyone had brought any bananas. To my surprise, one of my buddies says "yes, why?" . To my shock and Lloyd's (our guide's) amusement, my buddy pulls out two of them. I explained to him that it was a no-no/ a jinx/ a bad omen to bring bananas on a fishing trip. Even though I (or Lloyd) really did not believe it, we figured why tempt fate. Well, here we were with no fish and, not one, but two bananas. Well, since he had the banana out, he figured he might as well eat one. Having figured that the damage was done, we encouraged him to enjoy it . Here he is looking like he really is enjoying it... Well, no sooner did he fishing eating his first banana, we get our first of the day...here I am saying banana! Soon after we got that first fish, we missed our second. About an hour later, my buddy who brought (and subsequently ate one of the bananas), lands this beauty ... A real monster weighing in at 10lbs 14 ounces! His personal best by far. Can't tell from the picture, but she had swalllowed a fire tiger body bait and would not have survived...so in the live well she went with the smaller one. By now, we are in real good spirits. We wanted to save the last banana for when it slowed down. We ended up losing another one early in the afternoon. But just before we were going to leave, as Lloyd is pulling out the last rod, we land the last one of the day. Funny thing is that the last banana was eaten only a little while earlier. Here are the final results of the day ... So the secret is.....don't be afraid of the banana! All kidding aside, Lloyd deserves the credit by putting us on the fish. Thanks again Lloyd for a great time, we will be seeing you again next year for sure....\ Fisher

A COUPLE OF SPOTS OPEN FOR SAT NOV 8 ON THE BAY
fisher replied to fishhunter's topic in General Discussion
I think what Lloyd is doing is great and should be encouraged and praised. He is giving OFNers (like myself) an opportunity to experience the BOQ (with an experienced guide) for a very reasonable expectation that only his expenses be covered. Good luck in filling those spots on Saturday...I'll be seeing you on Sunday. Can't wait. Fisher -
Speaking of tires, my neighbour just asked me if I knew someone who wanted to buy a set of Winter BMW rims and wheels which he used for 2 seasons - says the tires/rims still look new. He gave up his lease on his BMW and now has the tires and rims he paid $2000 for sitting in his garage. Anyone? Before he lists on Kijiji. You'd have to pick them up in Woodbridge area though. He wants $500 for them.

After you take first prize (since today is going to be rough out there and likely not many will venture out - including me), would you mind telling your fellow OFNers details on the catch (depth of water, depth of lure, etc..). If not, I understand but I am hoping to catch you in an extremely happy state of mind - after all a Brand NEW $30,000 Lund/Trailer package doesn't come along every day. This year has been pretty good for my dad, 5 year old son and I with many 20-25# fish caught but we just can't seem to zero in on anything much bigger. Anyway, good luck and I am rooting for you.

I heard about this story from a co-worker and I called Telus this morning. They said that I would be charged for incoming text messages even if I did not open the message...seems kind of unfair especially if its unsolicited or wanted - basically out of my control. Now for me, since I don't use Text messaging (or web browsing for that matter) on my phone, I asked that they suspend/cancel these two services. To my surprise it was very easy and doable - and here is the best part, it was FREE - wouldn't be surprised if they change that too. It only took two minutes to suspend the services once I got the operator on the phone ..... ...but it first took about 15 minutes of being on hold .
