  1. None of the above, Nakina is my favourite jumping off point. Between the ones you listed Wawa/Chapleau is an easy choice.
  2. That's amazing considering the flat calm water and sun. The early bird gets the worm!
  3. I walk the river in Caledonia every 2nd day with my dog and I know damn well it wasn't fishable in February. You guys can think whatever you like.
  4. So anglers who flount the law, whether unwittingly or not, deserve a pat on the back because we're all comrads and on the same side of the fence? Is there a gag me with spoon emoticon? Speak for yourself.
  5. The issue here is not signage or where he was standing. The issue is the Grand in Caledonia has been closed to walleye fishing since March 1st.
  6. That's a good idea Harry, I'm an antisocial jerk too. It's not going to be easy to predict though. It'll be entirely based on weather and the quality of the fishing. I suspect with it being later in the season the greatest concentrations of trout will be in the upper half of the river so it's more likely we'll layover there. My direct email address is [email protected] if you'd like to touch base later this summer.
  7. Well you'll be about 5 days behind us. It's not impossible especially since we're taking 12 days and are planning several layovers. Honestly that was my greatest concern when I booked with Hearst Air. I have no desire to have a flotilla of canoes herding me down the river. They supposedly schedule the parties far enough apart and assured me of that, but there's many variables and nothing is certain.
  8. You sound like a kindred spirit Harry, I've paddled most of the rivers in N/W Ontario myself. Much like yourself this is a much anticipated trip for us. For me it's literally been in the works since my uncle told me wild tales of huge brookies in the spring of 1972. It's too bad our trips are slightly overlapping. Otherwise I'd have been happy to share my trip notes with you. There's really not much info floating around on this route. Cheers
  9. Actually we're going to take them all. We're travelling with a native Ojibway who will be systematically gill netting the entire river from Hawley lake to the bay. You might as well cancel your trip now.
  10. How come? Unless you're 100% sure the OP committed no wrong. He'd have had to be fishing the Thames and only the Thames. I walk the Grand with my dog in Caledonia every 2nd day. It's only really become fishable in the last two weeks. Too bad the season closed March 1st. No way does the condition of the river prior to March 1st jive with a couple of the pic's he posted. To me his post asking members to join him fishing the Grand in Caledonia on March 12th is pretty damning. Sorry but I don't buy the fact that was a slip of the tongue. But each to their own, you're all entitled to an opinion. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/naive
  11. You're pretty adamant here that you weren't fishing Caledonia. Here you claim you're fishing Delaware. According to this quoted post you were soliciting members to join you walleye fishing in Caledonia. The post was dated 12 days after the season closed. In this response you actually admit to fishing in Caledonia. Surely you can see why some people are thinking this post is a little fishy.
  12. We'll do our best to sting every single aggressive fish before you arrive.
  13. Wow, not too many people are interested specifically in numbers of smaller pike. That's about as easy it gets to find, pretty much every single lodge in N/E Ontario and QC has scads of small pike. There's been a lot of chatter on the board recently about Lady Evelyn lake just north of Temagami. You may want to do a search on the topic and look into it, it would probably fit the bill for you perfectly. There's several lodges that operate on Lady Evelyn and all seem to be highly regarded.
  14. Hey it was great meeting you! As far as Zoey goes I don't think she likes Nascar. It really is too bad you didn't bring a rod, I was fishing the whirlpool with my son on Friday and it was great. Glad you two had a fun weekend. As far as fishing goes this coming week is going to be huge.
  15. In Algonquin the access point at Achray on the east side of the park is nice. It's not nearly as busy as some of the other access points and is truly beautiful. Grand lake has fantastic water access beach campsites as well that face west. If you're there in the summer you can do a day trip over to High falls on the Barron river, there's an absolutely fantastic natural water slide there. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/oi1-A0T9Duw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I also really like the water access sites on Cedar lake at the north side of the park. Gorgeous lake and really good walleye fishing which is somewhat rare in Algonquin. I can also recommend the Pickeral river downstream from hwy 69. IMO it's a little more intimate with maybe less boaters than the French. And really great scenery: Pine trees and pink granite outcroppings everywhere. Launch and park right at 69 and paddle downstream towards the junction of the French at Ox bay. Along the way there's some great campsites which are rarely used.
  16. I never thought I'd say this, but I think I like your photos even better than your writing bud. Just stellar!
  17. For what it's worth I fished it yesterday and it was pretty much trashed. More rain today and tonight will mean it's going to get even uglier. Most of the piers in this area are producing VERY well right now.
  18. I'm glad you guys are liking this old post! I've got plenty more where this came from if you're interested. I know eh!
  19. Weird, which shop? I've brought broken St. Croix rods with no receipts into both Fishing World and Bills Bait with absolutely zero issues. All of the rods that needed replacement were purchased elsewhere.
  20. Gotcha! That's cute and kind of Gollum-like at the same time.
  21. The rod does. The reel, line and tippet are most likely early to mid seventies. Have a closer look at the first picture.
  22. Exactly what is "your pretty"? I want to know. Very nice pike btw!
