  1. I run 832 on my spinning reel along with a fluoro tippet throwing hardware for steelhead. I like it for that purpose a lot, for exactly the reasons you guys don't like it. It's incredibly thin and limp and is maybe the best braid I've used for hucking out spinners and spoons long distances. Tip wrap is not an issue for me. For pretty much every other application I use power pro.
  2. I've never used a heavy leader when fishing for walleyes.
  3. Cue Snidely jumping on his bed and laughing maniacally.
  4. Hey, I'd be happy to drop you a line when we get back from Beteau, no problem. And thanks for including that link! After being alerted of it's existence and the ease of working with it, I'm now also going to try the Tuf Leader made by Tuf Line. You might want to have a look at that stuff too. Cheers
  5. Spike it with maple syrop and you'll be good to go.
  6. Even with less wraps on the clinch? 3 sound about right to me then a dab of glue. In my case I'll most likely make the leaders up beforehand using a tiny cross lock snap rather than tying directly to my bait while fishing. I change lures far too often to make that viable. And hey, I'd be happy to take that stuff off your hands Jeff. Cheers
  7. Thanks Marvin. I'm going to try both of them and see how it goes.
  8. I'd be afraid to use mono for pike myself, but no doubt it ties easier. bare foot wader had good advice I think. 3 turns on the clinch knot, a dab of crazy glue and maybe even shrink tubing over the knot. Harrison pm'd me to inform me of a similar product he sells made by Tuf Line called Tuf Leader. Much cheaper than the Terminator stuff, it may be worth a shot.
  9. Welcome! Real nice build too, some pretty awesome woodwork there. What I like best about it is you put the reel seat where it's supposed to be. So many guys run their reels higher up on their handles these days and I just don't get it.
  10. Ah yes, do you remember this night on the river? Good times my friend.
  11. I'm a rum guy myself and imo nothing tops Havana Club. If I'm slumming Appletons is pretty darned good. If you want something extra special they sometimes have some phenominal but expensive bottles in the vintage section of the LCBO in Dundas.
  12. I saw that but the complaints seem to be based around how difficult it is to tie knots with the stuff, not it's durability. That smacks of user error to me.
  13. I think it would be perfect for flyfishing as you could tie it directly to your streamer, especially in the lighter pound tests. My sole purpose is for casting lightweight plastics in shallow water for very early spring pike with a spinning rod.
  14. Perfect, that's just the feedback I was looking for, thanks!
  15. Just stumbled across this stuff and it looks intersting. Supposedly you can tie knots with it which would avoid crimping and make things very easy. Sold in 25' lengths for around $20 it seems almost too good to be true. Has anyone used this stuff? Would like to hear some feedback. http://www.basspro.com/Terminator-Pro-Series-Titanium-Leader-Wire/product/30727/
  16. Thank you for taking the time to put that together, it was a pleasure to read!
  17. Was published in the Jan/Feb issue of OOD Lew, and more on tap for this year. Still may have an opening for the June trip too, I'll let you know soon.
  18. Just finished pinning down my 2013 trip schedule. May 11 I fly into Eddie's camp on the Attawapiskat river for big pike. June 18 I fly into the Chapleau Game Preserve to fish Little Missinaibi lake. August 18 I fly into Obakamiga lake west of Hornepayne with the whole family to Buck & Bingwood camp. Sept is the "big" one. I fly into Cree lake in northern Saskatchewan for giant lakers and pike. July is the only wildcard still. I'm either taking the family to Quetico park for a canoe trip or doing another fly in out of Nakina. Depends on what my assignment is with the magazine. Should be a fun year.
  19. I really need to start getting a percentage from all these bookings LOL! You'll be there at absolute prime time bud, you're going to love it!
