  1. I guess I agree with ADB. Primarily because 99% of my major tackle purchases are now done online. So far I havn't been burned once with anything defective. I've spent a fair bit more than $200 on a reel as well.
  2. You asked about Horwood in the other thread. It's a very good fishing lake (reservoir actually), but imo may not be exactly what you're looking for if activities for your kids are important. The other lodges mentioned on Lady Evelyn are also very similar: decent fishing on a water access reservoir. It's a bit of a tough call. I can recommend a bunch of great camps, but most are primarily fishing camps. Depends on what your expectations for other activities are. One of the best camps I know that really caters to families is Happy Day Lodge on Windermere lake near Chapleau. Only problem is they're most likely booked. http://www.happydaylodge.com/ As mentioned I can offer up a bunch of good fishing camps if you're interested. One that stands out is Brennan Harbour Resort in the north channel of lake Huron. Great walleye fishing and a very nice camp: http://www.brennanharbour.com/
  3. Just fantastic, wow! Glad to hear everything went well Dan, and nice to hear Phaneuf made a good impression. He's had a lot of criticism heaped on him, but I'm a fan and am glad he's on the team. Would have liked to have met you at the sportsmans show, but I guess the timing wasn't right.
  4. Was great meeting you as well Doug! As I said at the show I'm sure you'll enjoy Horwood. Next year it'll be a trip to the Attawapiskat though.
  5. Funny thing Wayne, when I had my issues with ABU my ONLY recourse initially was to deal with either Aikmens or Rocky's and have the reel repaired. If ABU had said right away "mail your reel to us and we'll exchange it for you" I would have been ecstatic. Ultimately that's what they did for me and I was more than happy to mail my reel to them. Feel free to dig up my old thread.
  6. Look, I went through the exact same issue recently with an ABU Garcia baitcaster. I mailed ABU my defective reel and they sent me back a brand spanking new one. The fact that returning it to Le Barons isn't an issue leaves you with few choices. Your only other option is if you can deal with Canadian distributor direct. Personally I'd send it to Quantum in the states. Print off their email reply to you and put it in the box. I'd also include a very polite letter explaining your dissatisfaction in having to mail it across the border. It's highly probably they'll take care of you. Assuming you play nice and don't start ranting. Seriously, suck it up, spend the 12 bucks or whatever it is on shipping and your problem is solved.
  7. What's the big deal? Ship it to Quantum. It's obvious they'll exchange it for a better finished reel.
  8. Excellent post. (It never ceases to amaze me when people shoot themselves in the foot.)
  9. Hey Rob, if you go to Cabelas let me know. I have a shopping list.
  10. Expensive, but absolutely bar none the best, most durable cart on the market: http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442095599&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302700901
  11. Terry check your pm's
  12. That's awesome Phil. Headed north on Sunday. Greener pastures so to speak. The invite is always there bud.
  13. Doesn't get any better than that. Great stuff!
  14. Hey I worked the show yesterday too and didn't meet any OFC'ers. I'll try and sneak over today Michael. I'm at the Attawapiskat River Adventures booth.
  15. I had one very briefly, then sold it. Hated the thing. Very uncomfortable to fish out of, at least for me. Only real reason I can see to own one is if you own an atv or use it to fly in with. For my purposes a squareback canoe is much better.
  16. Perfect little outing. All you Simcoe guys must be in mourning now. What's next on the agenda?
  17. So for those considering a baitcasting reel for heavy use, like musky, pike, saltwater, etc., what would you recommend besides a round style reel?
  18. Unbelievable! Amazing story Lew, glad to hear no one was injured.
  19. That's great Dan! Nice signature on the jersey. Looks like an angry monkey slashed at it with a sharpie.
  20. I kind of figured. Doesn't matter really that's an amazing fish regardless.
  21. March is always a rebirth for me. Absolutely, there's something about the contrasting colours they like. Pink on pink or chartreuse on chartreuse doesn't work anywhere near as well.
  22. Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm stunned by your avatar pic. Is that a brookie? Welcome to the board btw. Gord, anytime you'd like to join just ask! I'd be happy to show you the ropes.
