He's already got a float rod and reel. Still a bit too young to handle it yet though. Yeah it was pretty funny. He was so excited I thought he'd pee his pants. Ice has been out for about 3 weeks now I think.

Being such a gorgeous bluebird day today it was a perfect opportunity to bring the kids to a local trout pond to help hone their skills. Couldn't have gone any better. I fished a variety of flies under their floats with a small beadhead caddis being by far the most successful. After working somewhat hard to entice the fish with flies we switched to ye olde garden hackle to put some meat in the cooler. Still hard to beat a worm. Please forgive the amateurish videos. I'm not talking about either Marc Thorpe or Mike Lazarus Roy, I'm talking about my friend. I said Lazarus was the only other guy I know who may have caught as many. As I said earlier he's caught ridiculous amounts of large fish and if he caught a record he would keep it.

There's no doubt our mutual friend has caught ridiculous numbers of large fish. Lazarus is maybe the only other guy I know of who's caught more. However, knowing him like I do, there's no way he'd ever release a record. Never.

The weight of a side mounted electric trolling motor is minimal. That combined with slower speed makes using one a complete non issue on a side bracket.

If you're just dropping the canoe into local waters and dinking around on day trips then I agree. I use mine extensively for lengthy overnight back lake trips. Using an electric and a battery is not feasable.

How ironic. It's exactly this type of response that made me stop posting reports last fall.

Yeah well I doubt they'd convert an existing store that was crappy to begin with and call it Cabelas like they did in Winnipeg. If we ever get one it'll be a clone to their US stores.

That makes sense, but still....every single Cabelas location in western Canada?

Exciting in general but no way no how does it make financial sense to open a huge store in the prairies. I don't care how many fishermen use the area as a jump off point for fly ins. No way does that compete with the enormous market in the GTA. Anyhow, I've been on a whole bunch of fly ins over the years and have always been packed and prepared beforehand. I couldn't envision ever buying anything of substance enroute. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever! (Or just sour grapes on my part. )
