  6. OK, so I now have pics. There are actually 8, there was a Winchester/Cooey .22 in addition to the original 7 on my list. The guns are in excellent condition, and were stored very well. First they were cleaned and then coated in some sort of oil/grease, wrapped in paper, then plastic. Done by one of my grandfathers buddies from his gun club. Stored in a good environment humidity wise. The grease wipes off pretty easily, you can see it in the following two pics: Before: After:
  7. Cooks Bay is usually OK wind/weather wise for smaller boats like yours and mine. There is good pike, bass and perch fishing to be had in Cooks.
  8. Pics will be added on Sunday, I am heading in for a birthday party and will take the pics then. Thanks again for all the input fellas - keep it coming!
  9. Don't you already own a boat? A schooner named the Wanderer? How the heck do you fit that down your laneway???
  10. Slow retrieve with typical pike spoons did pretty well for me the last time I was there...
  11. yikes somebody gonna get hurta reaaaal bad... somebody...
  12. Wow Craig, thanks for all the info! Vague? Hardly! From what I know, my grandfather's hunting buddies gave the guns all a good cleaning and oiling before they went into storage, so hopefully they should still be in good condition. I will find out tomorrow - I am going to check them out and take piles of pics. Pete
  13. Hahaha x 2 on the Tracker comment... although I hear they once they sink they make great underwater structure that holds big smallies
  14. Not sure what model that Marlin is, but I do recall seeing rabbits hanging in his garage lol. That list I posted is all the info I have, other than a few more serial numbers. I'm going to go to the storage place later this week and take some pictures and find out some of the missing info (ie no serial listed for the Marlin). The money is going to my mom as it was her dad's collection. Not looking to get rich haha, just get fair market value for them. My grandfather was pretty meticulous with his gear, so I'm sure these are in great condition. Pete
  15. Serial number of the 30-06 Browning is 92237M69 Serial number of the 12G Browning is 7G73437 thanks guys! Pete
  16. I have fished out of bowriders and other similar type boats and hated it... I am not even a fan of fishing out of Al's big boat for salmon. I would go for a console style fishing boat with enough horsepower to ski and tube etc. comfortably. Best of both worlds. Pete
  17. Thanks Bill, could be - I should have added that my grandfather passed in 1985, so these guns were obviously bought well before that. Was the A5 from that era? Good idea dracokaos, I might try that.
  18. My grandfather was as much a hunter as a fisherman, and my family has 7 or 8 rifles/shotguns in storage from him. I have a list of what they are, and their serial numbers. My mom had them appraised back in the early 90's, and was told that a few of them were quite valuable - two Belgian made Brownings in particular, but she has since misplaced the list of their appraised values. Here's a list and some details: 1) Parker Hale .243 Win, Cal. Bolt action rifle equipped with a Leopold 2.5x/7 Scope, Sling and swivels 2) Browning 30-06 Semi-Automatic Rifle complete with scope, sling and swivel. Belgian made - Collectors class? 3) Parker Hale (Midland) Bolt action 30-06 rifle with scope and sling 4) Hungarian 12G single trigger over and under shotgun with sling and recoil pad 5) Browning 12G Semi-Automatic shotgun, MADE IN BELGIUM with sling and recoil pad. Collectors class? 6) Marlin .22 cal semi-automatic rifle with Safari 4x32mm scope and sling 7) Mossberg .22 cal Mag Bolt action rifle with Weaver 2.5x7 scope mounted Does anyone know if it is possible to look up the details of these guns using their serial numbers? At least find out when they were made etc? Anyone know some approximate values or somewhere I could go to find it out? I highly doubt that I will ever start hunting, so there is a very good possibility that these will be on the market at some point in the near future. thanks Pete
  19. Glad you guys had a good time - I had so much fun handing you my rod when it went off and watching you do battle! Thanks again for your donations, and I will indeed be donating a cat trip(s) for next years FFT auction. Brian - that was indeed a pin, Chris brought it but the boat was a wee bit full to experiment with it. alphaalpha - I was out with my 2 boys on Monday from noon till around 7pm, and it was indeed slow during that time period. We were marking all kinds of suspended fish, but not cats. We caught our 2 fish right near the end of the day. My boat is a black Legend Prosport with a Honda on the back, I do seem to recall seeing a few other Legends out there.
  20. First, I would like to thank Chris, Brian and Jeremy for their generous bid on this trip in the Fishing for Tyler auction. As Saturday approached, I was a bit worried about the fishing, as the last time out (Monday) only 2 fish were caught. The forecast looked good, 12C, a mix of sun and cloud and low winds. I got to the launch at 6:45am, geared up and launched the boat. The guys showed up shortly after, and we headed out. 4 guys in my boat is a bit cozy, but it worked! It didn't take long and we were into fish. First spot - 5. Second spot - 2 including Brian's bruiser. Third spot - another 2. We had 9 landed by around noon. The fishing slowed down in the afternoon, but we picked up 3 more for a total of 12, and Chris picked up a bonus sheephead. Heaviest 4 : 12.75, 11.25, 11 and 9.5. Solid catfish entries for 3 teams in the OFC tourney too - 29" for Brian, 26.5" I think for Jeremy and 26" for Chris if memory serves? Glad you guys had a blast - I did too. I loved Brian giggling his butt off as his big fish was kicking his butt at boatside... Learning about reindeer bells... Almost losing my rod (thanks for the save Brian!)... Chris getting that sheepie and clams lol... Good times Can't wait to see the rest of your pics - there are some great ones. Pete
  21. I have tried cooked shrimp, had no luck on it. Would be willing to try raw though, should have more scent. Steve's cutbait is not rotten - unless you got a bag that sat in his outside fridge for too long - it is fresh sucker that has soaked in a special brine he makes. I use fresh suckers myself, because I can catch them pretty easily around my place, but have had pretty much the same success rate with both fresh and Steve's brined bait. He also scales his, which makes it a bit easier to hook and in theory for the cats to get in their mouth. I just leave the scales on mine. Have also considered the gulp minnows... will probably try it on a day when they are biting well. I can't see why other baitfish cutbait wouldn't work either and would be willing to try it out.
  22. Hi Don - Bernie has bought the engine and controls but you are welcome to have the boat and trailer - I have not heard back from the museum, so let me know. Thanks Pete
  23. That's pretty cool. Hoping the water temps heat up soon too, I don't want to see another muskie opener where eggs are still spilling.
