  1. Looking for some input on Mooching reels. I do some downrigger for Lakers mostly and saw advertised at BPS Mooching reels used for downrigging,trolling, etc. Just wondering if anyone uses these for downrigging and what would be the advantages of this kind of reel. I assume that it has a drag system of some sort but is it like you see out west when palm the reel or is that something totally different??? Your input would be appreciated!! Thanks
  2. Hi All I am looking for some of thoughts on lease hold cottage properties. I am interested in a cottage on where there it is a lease hold ownership. It says lease good until 2032 but it can gets newed ever 5 years??? The property is on an island in Parry Sound. Just looking for advice/opinions on this. Is is a good thing, risky etc?? Thanks in advance
  3. I have a Jiffy 30 now for a few years, pretty good, needed to replace the pull cord recoil and already put new blades on. I am happy the performance, 2 pulls everytime!!
  4. Not Kenora but I stayed at Crawford Camp at Sioux Narrows in Sept, as far as fishing resort go, everything you need, bait tackle, advice, boats, ice etc. The older lady at the shop will even do a grocery run for you if you run out for free. Its nothing fancy, price is right I would go back!!

  6. Mepps all the way, earlier this year while on a trip with 2 boats out and the only thing catching was a gold Mepps for a whole week. I know problably condition related but sold me.
  7. I would say there is no ratio, for the most part fluoro is invisible in the water so u could match the strength with whatever main line you like, but I would personally go high 15lb maybe, just my thoughts. If its steelies its a whole other ball game!!
  8. Excactly, follow fishermans advice and you will be in good shape. Don't be afraid to move around a bit, sometime a guy within 20 ft is catching are your not, find some green weeds. I sometimes a line my self with the rental huts. Don't forget a flask to take the chill out. Enjoy, ice fishing is blast!!

  11. I second the LOTW, the drive up Hwy #17 is spectacular especaily threw lake superior. The ice fishing I hear is just as good as the soft water!! I wanna go back now!!
  12. Drove by the other day, I saw a few out fishing by the island and by the over pass on #124. I have never seen ice huts out by the conservation to day??

  15. I have a Jiffy Ice auger 30, 10". I was out yesterday at simcoe and it took forever to cut holes, the blades were not catching. Anyone know if the blades can be sharpened and how or if I need to purchase a new set for like $50 bucks???

  17. Just got back from my lake 20 mins south of the sound, ice was good aleast 5 inches, good for walking fore sure!!!!

  19. I am running the recommend Polaris Oil that comes in the tune up kit, I think its synthetic but I will check and I do have regular gas I will add the winter gas in. As far as the choke goes when I manage to start it the idle is super low and takes time to get to a high RPM. If the choke is freezing how do you fix that besides heating the machine before a start??? Does anyone know anything about Jetting the carb, I looked on-line and saying its for extreme cold and high altitude??

  23. I have a 2009 Polaris 500 sportmen. When the temp goes below 0 the dam thing has a really hard time starting/turning over and it will sometimes kill the battery when doing so!!!! I sometimes trailer it up to simcoe and on really cold days it will not turn over and I need to jump it I am looking for advice on what I should do??
  24. I have ice fished there a few times and turned back a couple as well due to Ice conditions. The lake doesn't seem to freeze up all that quick and a layer of slush under the snow is there, advice is to be careful. As far as the fishing look for again 40-60 feet with a drop off, I have had luck with minnow and a white jig head!! Good luck!!
