  1. You're getting a killer tone in the Foo Fighters cover. Are you running through a delay pedal or is that just the built in reverb at 10?
  2. Curb Your Enthusiasm, Brotherhood, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and some of the others mentioned are all very solid.
  3. I'm a first year graduate of the course at Fleming and I'm very glad I decided to go with my passion. I've learned more than I could've ever hoped for, and things all relevant to my interests. A walk in the woods after a year in Fish and Wildlife isn't quite the same I'll say, haha...especially in the winter. Despite what you hear, there are jobs out there. I'd say 80 % of the jobs are outside Southern Ontario...or even Ontario for that matter, which may not be for some. I on the other hand am just 20 years old, haven't done much traveling and am completely ready for a little adventure! In fact I'm leaving tomorrow morning for my new job as a guide/dockhand at Dogskin Lake Lodge in Manitoba. Basically a dream job! That right there makes the course worthwhile already.
  4. The coolest zoo I've been to yet is the Northwood Ranch in Port Perry. It's a lot less busy than most places and it allows you to be a little more involved with the animals. They have an old toothless black bear that you can feed by hand, and last year they had a pen with a couple tiger cubs and a lion cub that you could walk right into and play with. Seeing them feed the lions and wolves is also pretty cool to watch.
  5. Doh, sorry. The Gull Lake near Minden.
  6. Hey guys. Me and a buddy from school are wondering if it's worth the trip up to Gull Lake tomorrow morning or not? We were there on the weekend and in some spots the ice was only in the 6" range. Does anybody have any more recent reports of the ice conditions?
  7. Hey thanks a lot guys! I'm really excited to give this a go!
  8. Hey everyone, So after a couple of years of entertaining the idea I finally bought a portable downrigger! I'm going camping on Chandos Lake this upcoming weekend and I was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction as far as where I should be targetting Lakers right now and what lures should I use? Thanks, and ill let you know how I do!
  9. Just wondering if anyone has been out to Moira Lake recently and has any information on ice conditions? Don't feel like swimming on Sunday! Thanks.
  10. I'm going to be starting the same program come September.....you're getting me really excited, I must admit!
  11. Just in case you're interested, I can verify that there are a fair number of Carp near the mouth of Bowmanville Creek. I just got back from a day of exploring the Creek. Seems Soper holds all the nice Brownies.......BC just holds the spawning Lampreys, out of season Smallies and those giant Goldfish like creatures....
  12. I second the motion for a Husky Jerk. Also though, a soft plastic jerkbait will trigger some of those lethargic fish. Jerk, Jerk, sink.......blam!
  13. Thanks for the info 4x4, Bass are always fun.
  14. A group of us were planning on doing a little fly-in trip in July, our first. Unfortunately Manitoba is just a little too pricey for us, so we were looking at a place out of Parry Sound called "Rainbow Airways". Does anybody have any experience with this outfitter? Thanks.
  15. My Dad and I just got back from Jackon's Point after a full day on the ice. The good news is we broke our ice fishing season skunk with a 5lb Whitefish, and numerous misses. The bad news is we went to unpack the car and realized our bucket complete with several rod/reel combo's was missing . I know it's a long shot, but I thought I would post here just in case an OFC'er came across it. They were left just above the launch ramp at the end of the parking lot. Thanks either way, guys.
  16. I landed 3 last season, which was my first season targetting them specifically. A 40", 34", and the monster 50" in my avatar. I can now hardly think of targetting another species.
  17. Hey, thanks for the response. Do you know by chance what time Smokeys' opens?
  18. Hey, I'm going to Jackson's Point tomorrow for the first time, hoping for my first Simcoe Laker/Whitefish. I was wondering where the nearest bait shop would be? Also, where does everyone park when heading out of Jackson's Point? Thanks for any help.
  19. I'm really into Progressive music. Rush is by far my favourite band and Lifeson my favourite player of all time. Next up is The Mars Volta (good call, Zack). They are making some really experimental and interesting music. Then it's a tie between Primus, King Crimson, Yes and Zeppelin. As for the most underrated, I'd have the say the Volta.
  20. I recently got a virus and it also shuts down my machine, especially during a virus scan.....the crafty bugger. So far I haven't had any luck getting rid of it, its pure evil.
  21. Thanks for everyones input. So 5.0:1 and up seems to be what I'm looking for then. I like the looks of both the Quantam and the Big Game 7000....off to Ebay I go! Thanks again.
  22. Last season I got heavy into Muskie fishing. My parents got me a Pete Maina combo for Christmas but they bought the reel with a 4.2:1 gear ratio. I used it all season but with lots of difficulty trying to get baits running correctly. Pumping a 10" Suick with that reel is a workout let me tell you! So anyway, now I'm ready to step it up and buy a new reel. I was just wondering what gear ratio all of you Muskie guys prefer for casting mainly jerkbaits and spinners? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
  23. Moira has a very good fishery. Pike, L/SM Bass, Walleye, and some giant Muskie. It's one of the lakes I frequent every year. That Muskie in my avatar is actually still swimming around in Moira Lake.
