  1. Here's the method I use. Take your filet knife and insert the point in the top of the head and come down between the eyes half an inch..... instant kill.... no fuss no pain :)

    Leechman

That's the method I use if my club is't in the boat. It does work well..

Question for the guys who bleed the fish. How much of a difference does it really make in the flavour of a fish?? Does it make it less "fishy", or what??

  2. I used to break the spine, but have recently begun using one of those small wooden bats, that are about 20" long. It fits in one of my rod holders perfectly, and actually came with the used boat that I got a few years back. One swift shot to the head, and they fall asleep. :sleeping_02:

Only used it once or twice on fish that are mortally wounded.

You can get the glow in the dark "fish bashers" at crappy tire, same thing..

  3. I live and fish in Timmins.

Pack some pickeral rigs and 1/2 oz bell sinkers. You'll need minnows.

You have 2 options for fishing the Fredrick House and Nighthawk Lake area.

    Option 1:

    ........

However, Option 1 is basically guaranteed action.

I will be there that weekend. Probably on the Sunday, as I'll be hitting up another location on saturday.

Holy cow man. Thanks for all the detailed info.

You may want to save all the specific details for a PM though. If I where you, I'd edit that post, and remove all that lovly info about your honey hole. I have already printed this, so don't worry about me! Most guys don't post their exact honey whole locations like this for fear that they will get over run with lurkers. Maybe things are different in Timmins?

    Thanks again eh!

  4. Hi there: I was born and raised in timmins and they are kinda right about mattag. It Runs through the uptown portion of timmins on highway 101. You can fish there but i have never seen people catch alot of walleye there. If you want a good shore spot, fish anywhere you can find land on porcupine lake in porcupine (burb of timmins). Tons of big hungry walleye in there, but there is a slot. Night fishing is good as well as morning.

    good luck

I may have to give that a try. I appreciate the info.

I'm thinkin about brining my canoe up, with the electric troller. I only have sat evening, and sunday morning to fish, so I want to spend it wisely.

Is there a few spots to launch a canoe on porcupine lake?

  5. The "Tin of Beans" always passes the inside-out water test but put her in the water and sure as hell I gotta bail her out a bit every hour...

Drives me nuts !!!...must have spent over $100 on different goop (including 3 coats of marine paint) to no avail...easier to accept a bit of bailing...hopefully a zebra mussel will find a home at the leak and seal it for me... :wallbash:

Me too. It's just a waste of water. I tried again to pin point a leak rivet by filling her with water, and nothing. Not a drip on the outside!

Could have had 10 showers with that water :dunno:

  6. So, I’ve never caught a walleye before. None of the lakes I’ve fished have ever held them.

This summer, my only fishing related goal is to catch a Walleye. Shouldn’t be that hard right?

I’m heading up to Timmins for work, and it just happens that it’s the same weekend as the Walleye opener (3rd Saturday in May.)

I’ve never been to Timmins before, and really don’t know what to expect as far as shore fishing opportunities.

Does anyone know of some lakes or rivers in the Timmins area, or on the drive back down (to Barrie), that I could wet a line, and maybe catch an eye or two from shore?

I was really hopping to get some good OFC support on this one. I tried a few times last year to get into the eyes, and had zero luck. I hit G-bay, the French, and a few rivers and lakes in the Muskoka / Severn falls area. I must have been doing something wrong.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  7. I saw this commercial for the first time today.

Sorry if this has been posted before. I thought it was pretty funny.

The funniest part is that last phrase.

"Ugly Stick – America’s strongest and most SENSTIVIVE rod"

Sensitive, are you kidding me!! :rofl2:

  8. No, sorry, bad description, apply 3 smacks with frozen carp to forehead :stretcher: Lets try this again. Remove your transducer from the suction cup. Lowrance/Eagle/Humminbuzzard and most of the rest have a metal bracket with serrated inserts that can be mounted directly to the back of your boat or to your "home made clamp" if you wish. The bolt that goes through the metal bracket and transducer is tightened sufficiently to hold the transducer at the "right" angle for viewing, but not so tight that if you hit something with the transducer, it will "pop" up or rotate upwards in the bracket to prevent any damage to it.

    See here: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_68076_250003003_250000000_250003000_250-3-3

It's all coming together now.. Thanks for the link Fisherman.

  9. Keep the lowest end of the bracket higher than the bottom of the hull, then it won't impact anything. Use the installation bracket provided for the transducer, if the transducer bumps anything, it's designed to pop up, at least with Lowrance/Eagle products. If you have that stick bracket below hull, you'll have a rooster tail a mile high and look like a doofus.

A little more info.. This is a humminbird being run on a 14' tinner with a 25Hp..

Thanks for the comments so far. Keep em comin!

  10. I was intrigued by a picture Irishfeild posted of a transducer mounting bracket in a past post. It got me thinking about how much nicer it would be to have a bracket, rather then the stock suction cup. I’m not a big fan of the suction cups, as they fall off all the time.

The only thing I’m worried about is my own error. I’m always pulling my boat up on shore. I have forgotten to pull the transducer off several times. No worries, the suction cup just falls off and no damage is done to my transducer. This also happens when I drift into shallow water, and bang rocks with the bottom of my boat.

With a ridged mounting bracket, the transducer would get damaged if I drag the boat onto shore, or hit something while moving.

It took Irishfeilds design, and modified it a bit. This way it guards the transducer from damage (from the frony anyways).

    However, I have questions:

    1. Will this design cause the transducer to not work at high speeds, as the guard will cause turbulence?

    2. Will the metal guard affect the function of the transducer? (Cause interference)

Have a look at my attachments, and let me know what you think.

I think I’ll try this, and if it doesn’t work, I can get out the grinder and make some mods.
