  1. I know this is an old post.. But I got my letter in the mail a last week, and thought I would bounce something off you guys..

I paid $800 for my boat 3 years ago, private sale. The "receipt" is long gone. Receipt = note pad peace of paper with chicken scratch on it.

The Ontario government got their info from the Canadian Govt. Does anyone know if the Ontario Govt knows how much I paid for the boat?

I really don't want to give these people my money! What can I do?

If I have to pay tax on the full sale price.. It would be $65.. It would be nice to just pay tax on the hull, which at the time of purchase was only worth it's weight in scrap..

  2. I've seen a few musky caught there too, but few and far between. One guy showed me a video of him catching a massive musky there from last season. Very very rare to see a ski on that lake.

The fishing is hit or miss there.

Troll a mepps spinner around weed beds and shoals. I would be very surprised if you didn't catch a handful of pike..

  3. My mother in-law tried to convince me to use Coconut Butter fom pan frying.. Still have 3/4 jar in the cupboard. It tastes great, but the breading sucks up all the oil, and you have keep loading up the pan. Expensive too, you can only by it in the health food section.

She told me it was a healthier way to cook, but you end up eating so much oil because it all gets soaked up in the breading.

I generally use Canola oil. But have used several different types (veggie, and peanut) and I can't really taste that much of a difference.

  4. Had an Extreme baitcaster/rod combo medium i bought 5 yrs. ago. Paid 100 bucks for it new at Bass Pro and used it quite regularly with 30 lb. Power Pro with no problems. Used it for bass topwaters and spinnerbaits. I wouldn't use it for muskies. It found the bottom of lake last year by accident. :wallbash:

50 bucks is a good price.

I just had a look on the BPS webside, and the same combo is still for sale there. $159.99. It doesn't look like anything has changed in the past 4 years.

Thanks for the info. I only was going to string it with 30 lb power pro, cuz that what I have kicking around my place.

  5. Hey guys,

My friends Dad purchased a BPS Extreme bait cast combo a few years ago. He never could get used to the rig, and so it sat in his boat, and never got used. I think he might have taken 100 casts with the rod. Maybe a little trolling.

He decided to sell the combo, and told me to make him an offer.

My offer of $50 was accepted.

Now that I've purchased this rig, I have a few questions.

Has anyone used this rig before. 7.1:1, right hand, on a BPS extreme MH single peace rod. I'm just wondering if anyone has any input, good or bad, about it. Tips or tricks specific to this set up.

I was also wondering about line. I have about 80 yards of Power-Pro 30Lb braid I was going to spool it with. Mostly want this rod for pike, Musky, and trolling for deep water walleye, and Lakers.

I realize this in an entry level combo, but I figured it's a great rod to start with for Bait casting, and If I don't like it, there's always the OFC classified section..

  6. Where were you fishing for Pike?

    Nice catch!

But if your cell phone died, how did you get pictures of the pike in the water :dunno: Or are those pictures of the smaller ones? Looks like fun man.

Heading out this weekend for openner! I can't wait :clapping:

Posting the images from Photobucket is a sinch.. Instead of copying and pasting the link like you did. Copy and past the IMG code.. The pictures will show up, instead of a link to photobucket. ( think that's how.. It's been a while.)

  7. I know a guy in Barrie who charters on a 27' boat. Not sure about the jigging but def does trolling. His name is Dennis Blanchette. Not sure what his phone number is but he is listed in the phone book. It is a Barrie number.

With regards to Gbay, call up the tackle shop in Midland. Can't think of that name either and talk to Bryan Berriault. He will know someone for sure. HTH

Thanks Cudz. I'll give them a ring and see what they can do for me.

  8. I'm in a bit of a bind.

I have to book a fishing charter for 5 guys on Lake Simcoe for June 2. I don't have much time to make a final decision. I was hoping for some OFC help!

I've posted this on other Simcoe boards, and have had a little luck. But I haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for.

I need to be able to get 5 guys on the boat. The plan is to Jig for whitefish in the morning. Then troll for Lakers after that.

The guides that I've talked to can't troll with 5 guys in their boats. The only one I found that can, is getting his hip replaced, and can't take anyone out for the month.

Last ditch effort here.. Does anyone know of a guide on Simcoe that can take 5 guys out trolling for lakers??

If not on Simcoe, then G-Bay? Simcoe is preferred because we're in Barrie, but southern G-bay would be good too.

  9. If the river is too high, perhaps just take the road directly to the lake.

There used to be a place to park and lauch onto the lower part of the Gibson River, down river from the 400. But last I herd it was gatted up for cottagers only, and they have started ticketing people who park there.

If the waters`s to high, I`ll just fish Gibson Lake. Never fished it in the spring, could be a good time.

  10. What I see there, and what I call it in the airplane world, is "bigger band-aid" syndrome. Guy finds a week spot (bowing transom board in your case), adds a huge ass reinforcement/doubler etc which transfers the load to another spot that was never designed to take a load causing catastophic failure. The area that is cracked is simply a splash well, it wasn't designed to have something structural depending on it. On my Lund I don't even think the splash well corners are welded, the corners are bent against each other and caulked before paint (either that or they're the smoothest welds I've ever seen). My Lund (and most of them), Princecrafts, others, have reinforcing gussets similar to what you've made Wendal, but there is another set underneath the splash well that they are attached to and the lower set is attached to the hull stringers. You had the right idea for taking the load off the transom board... you just need to pick up the underside of those brackets you made and get them tied into the hull stringers somehow.

Remember.. when the motor is pushing the boat.. load isn't an issue (unless you over trim nose up). It's sitting at the dock and trailering that cause the transom to pull rearward.

Very well articulated Wayne. That's what I was trying to say..
