I was at Walmart on Wednesday and happened to look at the electric filleting knives. I didn't see one for ten bucks!? I'll have to go look again!

Here's an ad identical to the one I bought from... http://cgi.ebay.com/Fishing-Lure-Lucky-cra...93%3A1|294%3A50 Note that it says: The lure was in a plastic bag inside the shipping envelope. Now this seller has hundreds of Lucky Craft ads all saying the same thing, so obviously the "original packaging" was never there in the first place. But if it's a knock-off, it looks like a good one... or maybe simply production that never went through the packaging process? I really don't know.
-
OK, I got the lure today. The ad said the seller's location is Tokyo, but the lure was sent from California by US Post. Here's what the lure looks like on the Lucky Craft site... And here are three shots of the lure I received... one of them backlit so you can see the internals... I can't find a picture of a "real" Lucky Craft Pointer that shows the bottom of the lure. Does anyone know if it says "Lucky Craft" on the bottom? Mine only says "Pointer SP". If it's an imitation, it looks well-crafted. What do you guys think?

I don't think Dollarama receipts show the items, do they?
-
I dunno, I just find it a bit extreme. Can you imagine... taking one of these units out so you can participate in the Dollarama Tournament with your $2 reel and $1 lures? Now that would be funny!
-
What you wanna be to make these units worthwhile is a commercial fisherman or a charter boat operator.
-
Aw damn! Did I get the wrong colours??? Hey, did you notice? They're rattlin' lures! Now that's quality at a bargain basement price!
-
I picked these up this morning... There was a whole rack of them, and I don't think any two lures were alike. Couldn't quite get myself to spring for the $2 reel though. I like bargains for tackle but that one kinda stuck in my craw... for now anyway. The lures look like they might last through a fish or two but the reel looks like it would be a real challenge to catch anything with! (Just the kind of thing for a fun derby, though --- might make for some great stories!)

We got into some recently released hatchery brookies once and had a field day with them, simply with a worm on a hook and then also with dry flies. We took a few home to eat and man, they were awful. White meat and very poor taste. Don't bother fishing for them if you want some table fare. I think they would need some considerable time in the lake eating natural forage to turn the meat the customary pink or orange and improve the taste.

Bleary-eyed this morning. When I first read it I saw "chap stick".

You could maybe post a picture of your fish, on a Dollarama lure, showing also the Dollarama reel and the front page of the current day's newspaper, posted to the site before, say, midnight.

Hit the costume jewelery section for some crazy things you can make lures out of. Seriously.

Sounds great! Don't turn your nose up at a good deal on a 6 HP for that boat. It'll push you fast enough.

My friend and I brought our families there for a week a few years back. The cabins were basic and old, but comfortable enough. The Hartley Bay ramp is steep but OK if you've got your own boat, and the water taxi service was fine. There's an awesome amount of water to fish. Some spots you have to take care not to get lost. They'll give you a pretty good map. If you have kids along, they'll love fishing for panfish off the docks. Some good walleye all over, some good trolling for pike in the Wahnapitae River (and a nice falls which is as far as you can go). IIRC we were told that September is good for muskie. Great scenery and some steam tugboats sunk here and there in shallow water from the days when the area was logged. You might find the old boat tramway and settlement where there's a short overland connect to Georgian Bay. Altogether a great area for fishing and exploring.

I hear chumming with dog food only works for catching cat-fish.

A typical 12' aluminum would weigh less, carry more, and probably be easier to handle. It would be my choice too. But used 12 footers are sometimes hard to come by and probably not any cheaper, if they're in good shape.

Well, the fishing regs state: "When carrying out their duties, Conservation Officers may do the following: Search with a warrant; Search without a warrant in circumstances requiring immediate action." That would apply, I suppose, if they thought you would be able to destroy evidence. But to search a house on a tip, they would probably get a warrant --- you likely wouldn't know they were coming. Yes, I see, but it's kind of an apples and oranges thing. More CO's out on the lakes, yes, but if they can act on unsubstantiated tips and invade your home, it doesn't sound that good.

Hmmm... not quite I don't think. Your distance from side to side in the box is probably about 50" above the wheel wells. This boat is 61" wide. You could probably rack it above the box easily enough though, if the seats are removeable for turning it upside down.

I wish. I should get in touch with the MNR but I don't know if they'd care. Still, I might do it anyway, and send them the pics, or give them a link to this topic. No, the south shore is about 4 miles away from the closest location where the photos were taken, by my guess.

But that's not the point. The point is you can be unjustly investigated, just on the suspicion of some vigilante who is convinced you've done something wrong, when actually you haven't. For those who might be feeling good about reporting people for what they consider violations, keep in mind that that mentality might just catch you in a snare some day too. i.e. - You're at the cottage (or renting one) and someone reports "I've see him coming in with a big stringer of fish for three days now." You might have had quite a mix of different species, or you might have had a couple of big fish fries, but on the strength of the "snitch" you might get a visit to search your place from top to bottom. i.e. - You post something "suspect" on this board, suspect to even one of the multitude of people who browse here, and in goes a call. I don't think your anonymity is protected, so a simple MNR call to the owner of the board turns up your real name, and you get a visit. Yes, I think it could be that simple, unless I am mistaken. You could be put through a lot of trouble and anxiety even if you've done nothing wrong. As for tipping off people that their words or actions could get them into trouble because they habitually ignore the regulations, I don't think you'll see those people around here. They're usually pretty secretive. It's the poor schmuck who does his best to follow the regs but makes an unfortunate comment that I'm talking about - somebody who does a little bragging, for example, and has it come back to bite him.

Yep. And the reel should be on the bottom of the rod, so you don't have to crank backwards.
-
Never in my life have I done that. That's what opening the bail is for.
-
Wow. I thought we would be talking a Great Lakes salmon. But it was fun anyway.
-
Glad you like the pics. The big lake kind of grows on you. But the Marten River area has its plusses too. For one thing there aren't too many days like this, when you can't even get out there...

I think you might get a visit this time.
