looking for some advise.....the rivers are blown so option one is out. I want to get out tomorrow, I have a boat and my electronics work just fine (lil shot there Stoty!) I live in Oshawa so it's a bit of a haul to Simcoe, my V8 will eat $60 round trip so if it ain't worth going...I would like to know tonight. This info will also greatly effect the number of beers I plan to drink tonight. I was wondering if anyone would PM me with info so I can get out perchin tomorrow. I do a ton of steelheading so I will pay back with river and run reports (PM only of course) for anyone kind enough to help me out. can I put in ? if so, where ? Cheers RR

I agree with Billy bob if it's a 522....but, did you say that they were both coming back on after power up....? at the same time ?

I are the front and back graphs networked to a single GPS 3000 attena (puck style) ....? You may not know as you just bought that boat in the winter. The GPS antenna has to be powered up by either the front or rear graph power cable, then the other has to capped off with 120hz resistors to complete end the loop. Messing around with these power cables can really mess up your graph, do it wrong and you will send 24 volts to the graphs and blamo...warrantee null, graphs pooched. Pay the money, take it to a proper shop and get it looked at. I could look at it for you but I would charge WAY too much money...... RR

Hey Kev, next time you see Josh ask him for a shot of maple syrup......he's got the goods! You and CC brothers ? ya, I see the resemblance......two guys standing in a river, fishless with that look on your faces......especially if steelimon is around. see you out there fellas RR

If you Could Have the Fishing Moment Back Again
River Rat replied to musky_man's topic in General Discussion
good post, makes you think. I have had many banner days that stick out right away when I think back but I keep going back to my first trip into Lingham lake with my dad when I was 8 years old. Me and him in the canoe for 4 days. Real roughing it.....we brought a tent but only used it one time. We only brought in beans, lard and coffee (and whatever else the old man was drinking back then).....we spent the mid day catching frogs and caught a bass on every cast. Jitterbugs and rapalas ar the only lures we had. I have gone back every year since then and I am now 37. That was when the obsession with fishing really started for me. The island where we stayed the first time is also where my father has asked me to put his ashes after he passes. I think I'll call him. RR -
Lake O tribs will not support the Atlanitic Salmon. Period. The entire aquifer of the Lake O basin has changed and the Atlantics will not make a comeback no matter how many they stock, pen raised, adults or smolts. Period. Stream rehab projects, scale samples, lamprey extermination, log jam removals, fish ladder installations and massive stocking efforts can not stop the oak ridges moraine from being drained to feed water to the North Toronto Communities like Aurora via pipelines and pump houses......or the bottled water companies from processing over a million gallons per day directly out of the Oak ridges and Lake O basin aquifer...... Water volumes decrease, silt levels increase....spawning grounds are choked and holding water disappears.....water temps rise and the whole time, countless anglers are stomping on redds, keeping maiden spawners for roe and smokers and then, you have tons of guys posting "look at what a superior angler I am" pics and write ups on websites that get anywhere from 3000 to 8000 hits per day with backgrounds, baits and pretty much directions to the spot where a concentrated pod of fish are located so they can be pounded and harvested by 100's of guys you don't even know. But at least thousands of complete strangers know you are the best steelheader around right ? I dunno, the Atlantic program seems doomed to me. What do you think ? Sorry guys, little rant there..... Chrome Jack Fest ~ Fun Day On The River
River Rat replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
wow...way to go....you got into em alright. Those pics weren't redundant at all... RR -
The main run doesn't hit the rapids for a while yet...... RR
-
yep. although I never did hook the humpies in the 80's....I did see them in the rivers out east a few times. Back when the lakers used to come way up the east rivers too. as for the atlantic river, anyone that figues out where those fish were caught has been there already. RR
-
oops....fast trigger. here's a couple pics of the hump back carp RR
-
hey Sinker, I'm not trying to stir it up either....that brown does look like an Atlantic but the tail section did it for me. It was big water I was on and it has a great run of stoked Atlatics......check out these bad boys......pretty sure some of the experts will say they are humped back carp. when they are in, we call em cockroaches! Cheers RR
-
hey Scotty......ya man, you look kinda solid these days. do roids actually shrink your nads ? jus sayin.....anyway, nice fish.....and if you were out with crazy Kev, tell him I said hi. now don't get mad and rage out on my bro, I'm just kidding. P.S. and don't share you needles Cheers RR
-
Sinker , did you even look at the pics I posted ? I agree that the head has an atlantic kinda shape but the tell tale sign that that fish is a brown is the section of the tale ahead of the fin....fat brownie tail. Look at my pics, ALL Atlantics are long and slender in the wrist with a slight fork in the tail.....some other guy was able to count to three....(spots on the gill plate) and that makes it an atlantic?...... My fish were all stocked, clipped fresh water Atlantics......look again. I have many more pics if you actually need more proof. RR
-
good fish bro.....I was out there ysterday too. We ended up hooking 7 fish all day. No heavy hauls yet but I'll be back for more soon. RR

Hmmm....Don't underestimate the knowledge of a good ditch fisherman. I've seen lots of "big water" guys get stumped in the ditches. Crashing up the high side bank (exactly as described) throwing shadows and stompng all over the redds. Kinda funny watching the "experts" running 14ft searcher leads in a 5ft "ditch" pool....hooking fish with pom poms on the outside of the mouth and they don't even realize the fish was flossed. Same technique they use to floss em in the geen and maitland......"swinging" the tailouts. A good steelheader can get fish to hit in any water, and can read all water big and small. It takes time, patience and passion to learn. I've watched countless fish come chasing down baits from 10-15 feet away in big water.....I've even pulled out of fish on 40-50 yard hook sets and seen a huge splash as they chase it down to crush it again. Just stupid! I have had 20 fish days on HUGE clear water flows running double bags in contrasting colors with 5 inch yarn tags hanging out the back......you don't see aggressive fish like that in the ditches....you gotta know how to fish em out there. My opinion only, but it's an educated one. Cheers RR
-
it's only a debate if you've never caught an Atlantic....that fish is a brown. RR
-
That fish is a brown....I have attached some Atlantic pics for comparison. No tail pics but look at the "wrist" area leading to the tail. Atlantics have a very slender, longer wrist than the pudgy browns.....and the tail isn't really forked, but not square...kinda in between. RR

oh ya, and there are at least 200 guys that will know that spot by the back ground pics......but, it doesn't really matter because all 200 of them were there last week pounding steelies all last week from what I saw. Even if these guys hide the back grounds, they will get PM'd to death if they post a big # fish day. I stopped doing that long ago....it's too bad, cause I love the pics but I hate the aftermath. You guys remeber the CC pic about 6 years ago on Floatfishing.net ? he turned for the pic, to hide the background but his mirrored sunglasses reflected a very identifiable landmark. The next day there were 30 other guys there that figured it out because of photoshop zoom......sometimes, you just can't win. When you hit a good run, it's best to just sit on those pics or a while and not post a big # day at all.....maybe post them in the summer when we are all dying for chrome so the curren run ogenerously proportionedish isn't tracked and killed. not preachin, just a suggestion fellas. anyway, good on ya guys....and did I say, nice reel ? !!! Cheers RR
-
That's a nice looking Kingpin reel bro...those new 478's are the cat's be hind in the 5 inch class reels. I love my Mykiss...but the new Kingpin with ABEC 7's ceramic ......fagedaboudit!!! Wait till you see the new deep blood red, and wine burgandy colors!!! ...coming soon. Hey Drifter 16, that is in fact a fine looking river in your pic........how many seconds after that shot was taken did that rod explode ? note for current generation floaters: that is NOT how you torque a fish in.....please people, use the cork and leave the hands up approach to the guys that can afford a new rod every outting! Cheers RR
-
I run flies under the float all the time. Tie em jig style for slow water so they "swim" horizontal. RR
-
I just measured my maxxum 52 incher and its 50.5 inches from the top of the motor caseing to the bottom of the head unit RR
-
I use the 3 x 5amp charger....over night charge from almost dead. The 10amp will charge you up in closer to 4 or 5 hours. I have a 2x10amp DC charger as well to keep the trollers topped up on the fly. RR
-
I run the US2 in my max pro to the 520C up front- there is some definition softening for sure....I can still see them on the drop shot, and weed lines are easily defined so I'd rather not put up with the external trans busting off and wire pinching off when the trade off in definition is so subtle. I guess it depends though......if I were running tourny's I would like to see those air bladders 2-3feet down in the weeds like I do wih my rear unit. If its for weekend warrior fishing, the ease of use is what it's all about. If it's for going up against Izumi, I think he runs external on the motorguide! RR
-
They are not offered in a blank.....if you read carefully, Solo said he stripped them down himself. I've done it too and trust me, it takes a long time to strip them properly without damaging the blank. Solo is the man for the job though, I think he has stripped a ton of rods over the years! RR

I have a 520C and external antenna so I could hook it up to my 27 on the consol. You can ethernet link screens, and Neima link GPS it to another graph, hook up gauges, fuel system, downriggers, etc....it gets one of the satelite radios thingys too (XM i think). also, I made a way cool portable unit out of the 520 with a power cord and transducer from Anging Outfitters.....took a case I had and a 12vlt rechargable and made a great ice, and canoe rig.
