  1. Forgot to mention that I am thinking of getting a replica mount of this fish? Any one with thoughts? Is this a good size for that or is it to small? Thanks. Dirk
  2. The last couple of weeks have seen me not get out and fish as much as I wanted to. On the long weekend I had a bunch of family and friends up so I went out for about an hour before I headed back to shore as the skies got very dark in a hurry. 10 minutes after being back on shore the skies opened. So needless to say a long weeked without fishing....SAD Fast forward to this weekend: After arriving at the cottage on Friday afternoon, and as usual getting liquored up on the wobbly pops, it was decided to stay on shore rather then head out in the boat. At around 10:30pm I decided to try some night time fishing. I remember having great success years ago in my younger days but haven't done it in a long time. I was excited to see what the night would bring. I decided to go with a favourite lure of mine which was a Jointed Jitterbug in the Perch colour. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-08-09 After casting for about an hour with no luck, I changed over to again to a Jitterbug, this time in the Coachdog/Orange Belly Colour. I had these lures paired with my Shimano Citica 200E, Shimano Crucial Rod, with 20 lb PowerPro in the Hi-Vis Yellow line. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-08-09 As you can see, these lures have got some mileage on them and I really wasn't sure what to expect. Needless to say, on my 1st cast I catch a small Rockbass. Then on my 3rd cast as I am slowly reeling in, I feel a sudden strike on the lure and it immediately peels line off so I set the hook and hang on for the ride. Line continued to peel of so I tightened the drag a bit. I then hear a big splash as it makes its first out of water jump. At this point in time I realize that it is a nice sized fish. I assume it could be anything at this point. I reel in some more and as it gets closer it makes another violent jump, then another. As it gets closer I can see the splash and the bright under belly of what I knew was a decent sized bass. Now the adrenaline is pumping and I am excited. I had no net with me on my dock so as I got it close enough to pull from the water, I hoist it up onto shore and quickly grab its mouth. That probably wasn't the wisest thing to do in the pitch black as I promptly took a single hook from one of the trebles into my finger. After putting up a good fight, the fish had lots of energy left. I take what I know knew was a Smallmouth into the boathouse for a quick picture, weight and measurement. Turns out to be my PB Smallmouth. A whopping 21"Hawg that weighed in at 4.4 lbs and had a hefty 13"girth. After landing that monster, I managed 5 more rock bass but thats it. Not bad for 3 hours of fishing. 7 fish total and one bloody finger. I don't feel so bad not getting out onto the water during the day now. I will definately be trying out some night time Jitterbug action in the near future. What a night. Dirk

    Cigars

The Indians on Hwy#45 heading up to Rice Lake sell real Cubans, very cheap to. Also you can try a Macanudo Robust, awsome smoke. Cuban quaility. Or if you can swing by the Durham region, I can sell you a box of brand new, fresh, unopend, Monte Cristo's. Dirk
  4. I have caught mine from 2-20FOW water so far. Dirk
  5. Great report with some beuaty HAWGS thrown in. Congrats. Dirk
  6. Try Mountsberg down in the Hamilton/Guelph area. Dirk
  7. Awsome musky, well done in deed. Dirk
  8. Great catch, care to share the lake or body of water? Dirk...
  9. Cliff, looks like a great work related trip. Too bad about the missed Tuna outing, maybe next time. Glad you are back safe and sound. That part of the world can be a little dicey at times..... Dirk
  10. Its the lack of sun. I try and tan but has been so crappy all year. I'll have to come south for some sun and real fish... I only keep a couple of fish here and there for shore lunch so it works for me. Yes motor is working great, definately putting more fish in the boat, but right now they are of the small variety. I have tried the Berkley Hollow Belly Swimbaits. Colours, Hitch and Tennessee Shad. I haven't had any success with them yet though. I did however catch a couple with the Berkley Hollow Belly Split Tail in the Arkansas Shiner colour. I can't seem to find them up here in the Firetiger colour though. I think that colour would be great on Rice. Dirk.....
  11. A nice Friday evening Sunset. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-07-25 Decided to get out on Saturday morning to do some fishing, weather permitting. Started casting off my dock at around 6:30am and I was throwing a Top Water lure. Decided to go with a Rapala Skitter Pop SP07 in the Silver colour. Casted for about an hour with no luck. I usually have some success with this lure but action was dead. Headed out in the boat to work a nice stretch of shoreline west of Margaret Island. I was hoping for 2 purposes, the first was to give the new trolling motor a nice workout and the second was catch some fish. This is the stretch of shore I was working. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-07-25 It was an ideal morning, sun was cresting the shoreline above me and some of the water was in the sun while some was in the shade. I was casting a Rapala J07 in the Silver Fluorescent Chartreuse Colour towards the shore. The new Motor Guide works like a charm. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-07-25 After about 10 minutes I land my first fish of the day, a Smallie just over 2 lbs. After working this stretch for about an hour and a half, I landed a total of 6 fish. 1 Rockbass, 4 Largies and 1 Smallmouth. This shoreline is a transition from weed to rocks. I was fishing in 5-8 FOW. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-07-25 While this may have been good for some people, I was disappointed as they were all just in the 2 Lb range and I also lost 2 much larger fish and was getting lots of action on the Jointed Rapala. One of the Largies I landed was quite small, 3 inch range, so it was from a spawner a few years ago. Shows there are young fish growing, good for the lakes future Was swapping fish from the livewell as I could only keep 2 with the Conservation license. Headed in for about an hour to have something to eat then came back out. Started working deeper water, 10-15 feet, with a HJ10 Firetiger and caught another small Largie in 12 FOW. Action slowed down so I threw a spinner bait as well as some tubes and senkos. Action seemed to come to a screeching halt. Fished until about 1:30pm. Headed in and called it a day. All in all, not a bad day, but at the same time, not a great day. Fishing was slow as the weather and winds kept changing. Fished a total of 6 hours and manged a total of 7 fish. If I was in a tournament I would have had a 5 fish limit with a weight of probably around 11-12 lbs. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-07-25 Got in the car and headed home. Rain started at about 4:30pm and then on the 401, the skies just opened up all the way home. By diggyj, shot with DSC-W5 at 2009-07-25 Dirk

  14. Can anyone recommend a good charger for an Interstate Deep Cycle Battery. It is being used for a 12V Trolling Motor and not sure what to get and how much to spend. Here are some of the specs. BCI Grp#: 24M Type: SRM-24 RC Min. 25A: 140 Hrs. @ Ampere Load: 5 - 16.4; 15 - 4.6; 25 - 2.3 Thanks, Dirk

  17. You will find a MERCURY 4 stroke on the back of my boat. Quiet, reliable, great on gas. Dirk
  18. For something like that, completely new with taxes, 20-30hp, 16 ft, Power Trim, Side Console model(Steeering Wheel) under $12000. Dirk
  19. Hastings, either on the Trent River side or the Rice Lake side. Harwood Government dock/Railroad on Rice Lake. Good luck wherever you get to. Dirk
  20. I'd try a Hollow Belly Swimbait. If shallow rig it weedless and retrieve slowly. If they are deep rig it for open water with a weight and treble hook. Dirk
  21. Camera angle or photo quality? I caught a 5+ lber OOS on Rice and it was way smaller than that one. Dirk
  22. Heard a rumour about someone catching a 10 lber in Rice Lake last weekend. He wasn't in the tournament. Just a regular guy. Rumours were confirmed when there was an article and picture in a local paper. Here is the pic. Anyone know him? What a HAWG! What do you think it weighs? Dirk
  23. More quality fish. Just what is expected of you as always. Great job, keep up the good work. Dirk
  24. Good job! Nice quality HAWGS. Hopefully they were an upgrade for the team. Dirk
  25. Maybe the size of the pic is too large? Try resizing it. I usually use this for resizing. I wish some guys on here did that so you wouldn't have to scroll left and right, up and down to experience the true beauty of a picture. http://www.resize2mail.com/ Dirk
