  1. OK, I am lost. I have scanned the internet, read all the threads in here. What is the best centrepin to buy for under $200. I am just curious and there is so much confusing info. Are the Okuma reels good for a beginner or are they just crap. I have heard both answers from several different people...... :wallbash: :wallbash:

They are a fine beginner reel, you can't go wrong for the price.

  2. I'm not sure you get it...the guy being "stalked" is a copper....nothing he can do. I was out with him on one hunt and this guy came up to both of us and was taking pictures of the deer, the vehicles, close up of our faces....didn't matter...this guy has some gonads or he's just real stupid!

Then he should be able to make the neighbour "disappear". whistling-1.gif

  3. COOL !!! North- Wright Aviation has the only two Pilatus PC-6's operating in Canada! You got a rare ride their Rob!

Oh.. the trip... thanks for sharing that as well. Bet it still feels like it was just yesterday...

And I've been on the other one. :D

Not sure, but I may even have pictures of it somewhere. B)

  4. Red dots mean no tresspassing, not no hunting.

I'll post my land any way I want, and I"ll do whatever I want on it too. I would be in touch with local authorities regarding a neighboor who is harrassing me, and interferring with lawful hunting. If the guy is taking pictures and video, that's almost stalking isn't it? I would be over there having words with him for sure, that's total Bull, and I wouldn't have any part of it.

    S.

Yep, and if he ever came on my land he would be pushing up daisies!!!!

  5. Your a smart one Mike, pull cast and or modified Wallis cast is how I learned and all I do.

In fact as I learned them so many years back I had know idea that there was a name for it. :)

As for only a 100 meters of line, never even been close to getting spooled.

    Me too!!

When I'm teaching a newby and try to show them a side cast I look like an epileptic with fire ants in his shorts!!!!

I'm a pull caster and have been for close to 30 years. <_<

I am like Mike in the line department. When I lived in Ontario I used 8# Ande but now that I'm fishing bigger flows out west I use 12# Raven in Grey or Green. B)

  6. I posted this last year, might help.....?

Once you're sure the blades are sharp try shimming them, you may need to play with shim thickness till you find just the right one.

Yeah they are upside down too.

If you need to shim it.

The shims go closer to the back of the blade (non cutting edge) as well to increase the cutting angle of the blade.

Cut open a pop or beer can and cut strips to use as shims.

  7. About 5 to 7 years ago i had some idiots on sleds run over my tip ups. Not knowing that they were made of 3/8 rebar and 1/4" round stock. To there amaze it went into the track ripping the crap out of everything in there. Guess who got towed home. Guess what goes around comes around. :D

    Sweet!!!!

    But aren't they heavy?

A bunch of fence wire works good too.

At least I know it stops a dirt bike pretty good. :P

Some one had tossed a bunch away on the side of the trails my buddy and I used to ride.

That stuff is a major pain to get out once it's wrapped around everything.

Just don't forget to take it with you when you leave.

Another good one is to pack all the wet snow and slush into a bucket and pack it down.

Then flip the bucket over and remove the slug, just like building sand castles. ;)

Stick the slug in front of your hole. At the end of the day stick the slug in the hole. :D

The paintball solution sounds good too.

  8. You've got a lot to learn kid.

I've spent months alone in the wilderness.

Yes there's risk involved but in my eyes I take more of a risk every time I drive on the QEW.

Properly prepared with the correct mind set and skills and it's very safe.

    You said it Mike.

If I were to wait around for a "buddy" to come along every time I wanted to go sledding, hunting or fishing I would only get out once or twice a year.

Being prepared & having common sense are most important. Most of my trips are solo trips and if you use your head and have some basic suppies and survival skills you should come out ok. Crap does happen though and you should be aware of this. Always let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back (like this unfortunate fellow did) so that if there is an issue help may come in time.

I have a 10 day winter camping and snowmobile trip planned for later this month and have all my plans laid out and even including talking with the CO's about ice conditions and trouble spots to avoid. This kind of pre-planning can be the difference between a trip of a lifetime and driving your snowmobile into 1000' of water because of a high current area. I was surprised to find out about 3 dangerous ice areas on the route. It amazes me that in one spot ther is 4 to 5 feet of ice and a couple of hundred yards away it's open water. And this is a lake, not a river.

Are there risks? Yep, but being informed and prepared minimizes the risks.

  9. look up Plastics or UMHW in the phone book or online and pick up some UHMW Polyethylene sheet in 1/2" thick and either have them cut it 1" wide or do it yourself on a table saw. Drill and counter sink for stainless bolts and attach it. Same as what you would be buying from clam, only less expensive. :D

  10. Probably because no one has or probably will be killed by this defect...

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched a probe of 905,000 Chevrolet Cobalts earlier this year after receiving more than 1,100 consumer complaints, which included reports of 14 crashes and one injury.

    Just a matter of time.

  11. hahaha! drifter that reminds me of my one buddy. he has a 12 tinner and bought a 15hp evinurde. mannn that is one scary boat!! we had to add some angle iron on the back cause the back transom was getting destoryed from that big of a motor hahahaha!

He had the motor on a little 8 or 10 foot tunnel hull. One of those little pickle fork boats. The thing did like 30 mph!!! It was insane!

He sank it several times stuffing a wave or flipping it.
