  1. Made it out to my cabin site today to take my first load of building supplies out to the site.

T'was a pretty decent day out with tropical temps this morn.

Got the bulk of my dock building lumber onsite, now I just need the hardware and time to get it all assembled. But that will have to wait for the thaw as there is still 3+ feet of snow in the bush.

I spent about an hour packing in the trail to the site from the ice road.

I still managed to get stuck pretty good at the shoreline as the snow was about 8" of wet snow on top of 2 feet of corn snow. <_<

I was going to head out tomorrow and do some lumber-jacking but I think I'll wait for the snow to melt first. :whistling:

  2. . The result is Ontario has the highest unemployment rate in the country, the highest electricity prices in North America, and families who will be forced to send their disposable income to hydro companies rather than using it for outdoor activities.

I think you are misinformed about Ontario's electricity rates.

They may be rising but they will have to increase 300% to catch up to our rates here in the NWT.

And your unemployment rate is around the middle of the pack.

  3.

How are the three stroke motors on gas? :whistling:

    HEHEHE, OOPs.

    Meant 2 stroke. ;)

I have a 60 Merc on my 16' princecraft about the best I can do is 2mph for trolling which might be ok for lake O but sometimes it is a little faster than I want to go for walleye.

True, but there are ways around this.

I can get down to 1.9 MPH with my 115 and if I need to go slower I usually just use my bow mount TM. ;)

  4. You will be fine with the 60.

    I ran a 90hp 3 stroke on my 18' Legend for 21 years before upgrading to a 115hp 4 stroke MERC.

It trolls beautifully and with the Smartcraft system I am able to dial in trolling speed in 50RPM increments.

I do have a 4hp kicker but it is for security if I have an issue with the main motor as I travel long distances from town with no cell service.

I trolled Lake Ontario for many years on my 90 with no kicker and caught many fish. ;)

  5. Well, it's official.

The Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday morning officially announced the hiring of Brendan Shanahan as the team's president and alternate governor.

Shanahan, 45, will be introduced by the Maple Leafs at a press conference Monday at 11 a.m. ET.

Shanahan will oversee all operations for the Maple Leafs, from both the hockey and business perspectives.

He follows the likes of Steve Yzerman (Tampa Bay), CamNeely (Boston) and the recently hired Trevor Linden (Vancouver) as former NHL stars who've assumed positions of front-office authority despite a relative lack of business experience.

The Etobicoke, Ont., native played 1,524 NHL games with New Jersey, St. Louis, Hartford, Detroit and the New York Rangers, earning entry into the Hall of Fame last November with 656 goals and 698 assists in his regular-season career.

Shanahan won three Stanley Cups as a member of the Red Wings and a gold medal with Canada at the 2002 Olympics.

After retirement, he joined the NHL’s head office in December 2009 as vice president of hockey and business development, later moving to the position of chief disciplinarian for the league.

The Maple Leafs appeared to be headed for a second straight playoff berth for much of this season, but the team's weaknesses and depth issues came into focus during a prolonged late-season swoon that knocked them out of contention.

Toronto now could finish as low as 12th in the Eastern Conference.

Shanahan will be tasked with building a team that can win the franchise's first Stanley Cup since 1967, a goal that was elusive for the likes of Cliff Fletcher, Pat Quinn, Ken Dryden and Brian Burke during their tenures as president.

Shanahan's first major decisions with respect to the team will involve whether to retain general manager Dave Nonisand head coach Randy Carlyle.

Nonis was given a five-year contract extension last summer by Tim Leiweke, the president of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Leafs.

  6. When I was chartering on Lake O we would run 4 downriggers and a flatline down the center.

One of my buddies boats had outriggers and we would add dipseys off them.

All of our riggers were run with sliders in order to cover more water.

Depending on what you have for a boat, I would go 2 lines on riggers, 2 on dipseys and a flatline or lead core down the center.

  7. Looks like yesterdays rumors may be true.

This was just posted on TSN's FB feed.

Maple Leafs to name Shanahan as new President.

Bob McKenzie is reporting - while a contract has not been finalized and signed, the Leafs and Shanahan are expected to reach a deal making him the President of the hockey club.
