  1. The ones I have seen fail are the clamp on ones.

Had guests up @ the lodge bring them up and watched the clamps snap and rods went over board while trolling T60's for lakers.

Happened twice in about an hour.

Luckily the quick thinking guide B) instantly did a big circle and managed to catch the downed rod with the other line to retrieve the rod and reel.

    TWICE!!!!! :D

Tens of thousands of Asian carp are believed to have died in a 24-hour period in the Cumberland River below Lake Barkley, and state officials are investigating. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources says specimens of the invasive silver carp will be taken to Kentucky State University for disease testing. Fish and Wildlife's western fisheries district biologist, Paul Rister, says Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley don't appear to be affected by the die-off discovered Wednesday. Evidence of the fish kill was documented to the confluence with the Ohio River. Rister says the source could be viral or bacterial. He says if water quality was the cause, other species would be affected. The agency says the fish have spread throughout much of the Mississippi River basin after escaping from fish farms in the 1970s.

  3. How much for the described electrical system?

At current prices I should be able to get it up and running for under $8K.

Mind you I will be doing all of the work myself, so will save a ton of $$$ on labour. B)

I would think with labour the price would almost double. <_<

  4. Its amazing to be in a town like Peterborough that is surrounded by the Kawartha Lakes and some pretty decent hunting that we do not have a dedicated fishing/ hunting store. I know there have been a couple stores to giver a go a few years ago but it seemed as though they couldn't make it sustainable. If I want to go have some tackle chat I head out to Bridgenorth tackle and talk with Frank. I give him my business because I like to support local businesses, but its a real head scratcher than we cant support at least one decent fishing store in town. I'm sick of crappie tire for fishing stuff.

You think living in Peterborough and not having a dedicated outdoor store is rough, our nearest outdoor store is a 12 hour drive away!!!!!

At least our local Canadian Tire has upped their game with an expansion and bigger outdoor section that now includes a good hunting and firearms selection as well as a good fishing section.

  5. My cabin that I will be starting on this year will be off grid as pretty much all are here.

It is 14 kms up the lake from the launch.

I'm planning a full livable solar system (1,000-1,500 watts of panels) charging a 24 volt bank of batteries to a 3 kw inverter with generator backup for the winter months.

There will be a separate small 12 volt system to run game cameras and electric bear fence around the deck to keep the critters for wrecking all of my hard work. ;)

Heat will be provided by direct vent propane heaters (utility room and out house :) ) and a gravity fed pellet stove in the main cabin living area. Water is supplied by a 24 volt RV pump drawing from a 250 gallon tank in the crawl space. It will be filled by gas pump from the lake. Water heater is going to be an Ecotemp L10 tankless on demand propane heater. Fridge and stove will also be propane running off dual 100# tanks.

Lighting will be LED and my ceiling fan is going to be a 24 volt unit.

The biggest electrical draws will be the microwave and TV/SAT.

Battery system will be 1400 ah expandable to 2800 (if needed) with the system I have planned.

  6. What the guy said is true. 99% of the time the moose will run a little bit and then turn off the trail and you can drive on by.

They weren't chasing it, just going in the same direction. It just happened to be that 1% moose that didn't veer off the trail.
