Saw one in December on my way South.
First time I saw one was when ice fishing South East of Yellowknife.
Saw a family group of 6 on the lake a few hundred yards from where I was fishing.

That's funny! The reason I asked is my first kayak was a Perception Pescador 120. I recognized the shape cause Perception used the old Tarpon molds.
Yeah meant 120.
I bought it because of all the good reviews of the Tarpon 120's.
I really want an Ocean PA 12 or 14 though.
My buddy in FLA has one and it's awesome. Even my wobbly butt could probably stand up in it.

Just thinking out of the box here; you have a quad right?
If so maybe get a 12 or 14 foot tinny, with a 9.9 on the back. A tilt & load trailer that you can customize for on & off road use (oversize balloon tires, rollers instead of bunks ect). Why a tilt and load trailer; you really don't need a ramp to launch or retrieve your boat with one. When I had my 14' tinny; I'd launch it in the Thames river, from the bank and never got the wheels wet on the trailer. Yes that could mean a pick up to load the quad onto and to hook the boat to for highway use. Or it is legal to double trailer tow here in Ontario. I haven't read all of the regs on doing this; but what I did read was you cannot go over the towing capacity of the tow vehicle with both trailers attached. There are other ways that you can carry/tow both toys. A hitch mount quad carrier with side loading ramps, a ball mount receiver attached (welded) to the back of the carrier, a weight distribution hitch to carry the tongue weight of the boat trailer. A nice small package to go down the road with?
Just thinking out-loud?
Dan.
I'm planning on a side by side with a roof rack to haul a tinny on.
With tracks it will be very capable and can go most places.

Nope, the ATVs can climb the mountain with no problems. BUT! They don't float, and are not worth a hoot in snow over about ten inches or so. They also don't go into some of the real gnarly bush and rocks where deer seem to go to die. 😉
They don't float but with tracks the'll go through almost anything.
They also have more ground clearance than an Argo.
But there is that non-floating thing.

I don't trust those things at all.
Bears are more predictable than moose.
One year I was sitting on some access stairs into the Russian River in Alaska when a 2 year old moose came up the river.
It walked into the pool in front of me took a drink and then approached me. As I didn't want to get my butt kicked I stood up and backed away.
Turns out he was just curious as he seemed to shrug his shoulders and turn back out into the river.
He was only a few feet away when he turned.

I don’t own a fishing kayak. Have only seen them at shows. They look like they’d be fun under ideal circumstances. Unfortunately in my world conditions are not always ideal. Weather, waves, boat traffic, and range make me think these are just sorta toys.
You’ll eventually want a decent boat. Especially with family.
Just sayin.
Yeah, they aren't for big water or big fish.

I'm still trying to get a 40 pounder through the ice.

I just lost interest LOL
The same happened to me.
That's why my boat was stored for 7 years.
The interest came back though and the boat gets used a lot now from ice out to freeze up.

Well , I have done 44 in 10 inches of ice on one battery, so, that means 10 where you are. But I only need one hole to catch fish. 🤣
Be more like 7 here. But then you need to account for the much harder ice and the work it takes to constantly clear the flights once you get past the top of them. If you don't say goodbye to your auger as it gets permanently welded into the hole.
I would say you would get 3 at most.
I wonder how long it would take you to drill through 60" of ice?
With my 3HP 10" it takes 3-5 minutes to drill one hole.
That's the reason I rarely drill more than 6 holes in a day.
The most I have drilled has been 12 through 5 feet of ice.

If it,s just an extension needed, I can do that too.
How many inches of ice can you drill through per battery?

Yeah, those type of augers are pretty much useless by December up here.

For a weekend? And test it!
Yes. You'd be amazed what dealers will do to get a sale.

I would love to test drive one for a weekend under the same conditions that I would be using it anyone got one they would rent me for a weekend?
Why not talk to your local dealer?
They might well have one you could test drive.

I've heard of this quite a few times over the years.
Not a Ford thing.

yea I think that Sally will be getting a new pair of shoes; a set of drive on skies. Wanted to try the chains and I think they'll still be better on bare ice for steering. But I dob't think we would have got stuck on that crusted over snow back if she had skies on? Instead of the front tires breaking through; I think Sally would have stayed on top and floated over.
OK I'm stubborn and wanted to try it my way first. LOL
Dan.

Be sure to post some good pics of your skis.
I'm building a permy ice hut out of an old popup camper and want to put skis on it.
I've got a pretty good idea what I'm going to do but more ideas are always good.

I did a quick one to just see. Yes, ugly . I will make the next ones much cleaner. I can see perch hook ups on these as well . Thanks Dave
Do wind the wire on the whole shank then glue the bead into position ? I just used some glue and thread wrapped around the bead . I am sure there is an easier way .
The copper wire holds the bead in place.
The beads on mine are 1.5-2.5 mm brass fly tying beads.

Dave, you collect pennies? I have $110 worth if not more!
You getting rid of them?
been thinking of doing a table top with them.

Try making up some of these.
They are the go to lure/fly for whities up here.
They are good in open water too. They run them under a float on the rivers.
Just a hook, red bead and copper wire.
You want to tie it on the line with a tight knot and then rotate the knot so it sits horizontal with the hook point on top.

I can't wait to see our new deal with Mexico and your POTUS looks like. USMCA??????
Toyota is moving Tacoma production from the Texas plant to Mexico.
They are moving Sequoia production to Texas in it's place.
This is so they can produce more Tundra's out of that plant.

Just make sure you take a paddle with you when you go out.
You'd be hooped if you broke a fin.
