  1. Wow - looks like a big project. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Dave - where did you get the switch panel for your lights, bilge etc? I want to add one in to my boat and like that one better than the ones I have seen at Bass Pro.

    Thanks

    Pete

    Here you go Pete.

Find the panel you want and click on where to buy for a list of dealers.

Pretty much any marine supply place should be able to order you one if needed.

  2. Also does anyone have any tips on how to get the glued on carpet off the aluminum? Its glued everywhere.. Live wells consoles its everywhere..I can pull the carpet off no problem, but the remaining glue and carpet stuff it stuck there good. What can I use without damaging the aluminum?

Use a paint scraper and elbow grease.

I replaced all the carpet in my boat and every piece is/was glued to aluminium.

All the floor boards in my boat are aluminium as well.

The only wood on my boat is the core of the transom and two pieces of teak on the top decks.

  3. The company I work at had all the outside guys take a driving / skid control course a couple years back. During the driving portion they told us to stop very close to the curb in this situation. Problem is (especially in Dundas!) a lot of the bikers will just whip around the LEFT side of you and then back over to the right side! This is not the leisure bicyclists, it is the spandex wearing "professional" bikers, and sometimes they will give you the bird when they do it... It is frustrating but you can't do anything about it.

    Burt :)

    Sure you can!!!

    Open your drivers door!!!

    Problem solved!!! :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:

  4. When I rebuilt the helm in my boat I put quick disconnects in the wiring harness for easy removal. ;)

I also installed a new power center and VHF as well as new gauges, steering wheel, steering wheel and helm...... :D

This is what it looked like before.

And my wiring on the back side of the new helm.

    And the after view.

The cover on the switch plate comes off and there are fuses underneath it.

Saves having to crawl under the dash to find out which one is dead if there is a problem.

  5. Your in it far enough that you should do it right.

The steering cable is easy to disconnect from the helm.

The wiring, not so much but is not a big deal if you take your time and make good notes of where all the wires are supposed to go.

Looks like no issue removing and reinstalling the straps over the gas tank.

Why not replace it with a plastic or fiberglass unit?

FYI, this is the kind of project you do in the garage in the winter. ;)

  6. I use seagar blue pak leader material in 8-12lb test and vanish leader material in 20lb test .

Use it more for zebra defence on most rods. Connect it to 15-60 lb power pro with a blood knot. Smallest knot i know how to tie

If you are looking for an even smaller knot for heavier leaders try this one out.   ;)

For light leaders I use a back to back UNI knot.

  7. Sinker, we don't have any of that crap on our roads up here that yooze guys in Ontario do.

I agree with the steel over aluminum for durability. Especially on our frost heaved roads and the portages through the bush on our ice roads.

If I had the $$$ to run out and buy a trailer better than the home made job I run it would be similar to this but steel.

I like the drive on/drive off trailers. Enclosed trailers that they seem to sell out West are big $$$ and take up a lot of room.

  8. I generally use Seaguar Blue Label flouro leader material.

It's a little more $$$ but is tough as nails.

I use 40# on my trolling outfits I use for lakers and pike.

For lighter lines I use Sunline FC Super Sniper as it comes in bigger spools and really works quite well for me. I use a lot of the 8# when fishing steelhead and trout in rivers and it works great.
