  1. How the heck do you get 14 years out of a set of tires? My understanding is you get 4-5 years and that's it. Did you check your leaf springs? had one shear in half one year.

Saw a guy last summer have a spring break on his pontoon boat trailer.

Was not a nice scene as the whole axle ended up being ripped out!!! :o

  2. People don't realize that the MNR would have done the same thing. If they tranq the bear and it gets spooked then someone is gonna get hurt.

Exactly, just what I said in my post a few back.

They will NOT tranquilize a bear in a heavily populated area due to the time it takes for it to go down.

Way too easy for it to maul one or more people as it's running scared after being shot.

  3. As for protocols involving bears, they are very hesitant to tranquilize them in urban areas as it takes time for the bear to go nighty night and in that time it can injure someone. Especially if in an area near a school or playground.

We have had numerous bears wander through town here in Yellowknife and there have been a few that were frequenting areas where there are children and they were put down. Others in less populated areas of town have been trapped and relocated.

This does not usually work if the bear has become habituated to peoples garbage though. You can dump them in the bush 100 miles away and they will usually be back in a few days. Then they get shot.

  4. The blame should be placed on the MNR. They never show up when they are needed. I have called for them numerous times in 8 yrs and they've showdd up once

Can't blame the MNR as they were handcuffed when the Lieberals took away their funding.

Now they are down to one CO posted in Moosonee and need to have bottle drives to afford gas for the '71 Pinto he drives!!!!

  5. Didn't even think of the bow eye :) But when are you ever anchoring at a 7:1 ratio. I know I never do.

I've done it before a couple of times.

    Before my dock was built.

During one storm I had to double anchor with 100' of line on each anchor in 6 or 8 feet of water in order to not drag and end up smashed on the rocks. ;)

  6. The house we owned in Grand Valley had a heat pump.

There are 3 types of heat pumps.

1/ Takes warmth or cold out of the ambient air (least efficient)

2/ Takes warmth or cold out of the ground (AKA Ground Source HEeat Pump) that uses a buried set of pipes to run liquid through to the exchanger (Mid effieciency)

3/ Takes warmth or cold out of a water source (well) and runs it through the exchanger and back to a holding pond or back into the well (most efficient) .

Ours was #3. Water was pumped out of our well (same one that supplied water to the home) into the house and through the heat pump where the heat was extracted in the winter and cold in the summer. Our house was a 2800 sf bungalow with full basement and it cost 1/2 of what our previous house 1500 sf) in Mississauga cost to heat/cool on gas.

  7. The Leafs added another piece to the puzzle today. :)

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has hired Dr. Jeremy Bettle as its new Director of Sports Science & Performance. In his role, Bettle will oversee all areas of the Maple Leafs, Marlies and prospects as it relates to strength and conditioning, nutrition, injury prevention, injury rehabilitation and all factors pertaining to athlete performance optimization.

“We are thrilled to add Dr. Bettle to our program today and name him Director of Sports Science & Performance for all of our hockey entities,” said Kyle Dubas, Toronto Maple Leafs Assistant General Manager. “We would like to thank Billy King and the Brooklyn Nets for affording us the opportunity to approach and hire Jeremy away from them. We would also like to thank the Toronto Raptors and their Director of Sports Science Alex McKechnie for allowing us to glean valuable insight from their world-class Sports Science & Performance department.

“In hiring Dr. Bettle, our sole objective is to be able to have our players know that as a program, we are doing everything we can in all aspects to optimize their performance and maximize their potential as a hockey player, regardless of what stage of their career they’re at.”

Bettle has spent the previous four seasons as the strength and conditioning coach and director of nutrition for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association. Prior to joining the Nets organization, he was a strength and conditioning coach for Team USA Men’s Basketball at the 2012 London Olympic Games. From 2009-2011, he served as the assistant director of sports performance at the University of California Santa Barbara, where he managed a team of sports performance coaches as well as over 450 Division I collegiate athletes from 11 different sports.

Bettle holds a Ph.D in human performance from Middle Tennessee State University. He also has a M.S. in exercise science from Middle Tennessee State and earned a Bull in sport and exercise science from Leeds Metropolitan University (England). He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Bettle, 34, is married to his wife, Michelle.

  8. I drove thru Barrie the day after the storm hit.

I recall looking at what used to be the Barrie Raceway

and all that was left of it was a pile of blue and white lumber.

    What a sight to behold.

I too drove through the day after on my way to Honey Harbour to do a little fishin' and remember that as well.

On the same day as the Barrie tornado the longest tornado track in Canadian history went from Grand Valley to Tottenham 115kms away.

It was also an F4 like the Barrie tornado.

There were a total of 14 tornadoes on that day in Ontario.

    2 F1's, 8 F2's, 2 F3's, and 2 F4's!!!!

  9. It may well be Wayne...never done before so have no idea what is a deal or not...but if it is $1,200 +HST by truck....sure hope it is less than that by train terminal to terminal (not door to door).

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

Are your quotes coming from Edmonton?

Alberta does not have HST only GST.

Get your quote from an Edmonton co. and you will save the PST portion of your HST. ;)

  10. Just the thought of wearing one makes me itch. I guess if it was a deep freeze or something. Are you guys wearing these just to avoid a few Rays?

    They don't itch at all.

    Actually they are pretty comfortable.

I wear them on those scorching cloudless days mostly.

    And when I'm down South.

This is down in FLA during some smoking heat.
