  1. I still remember a camping trip to Algonquin with my friend and his family when I was a young lad.

Met a neat old fella that was up from Ohio and he was camping/fishing and trapping snapping turtles.

He showed me what he was doing and told me they were very good eating.

Interesting the people you meet during your life that leave an impression.

This fella was a judge back in the states. :)

That was 40 some odd years ago. old_man-3569.gif

  2. Yea Dave talk to ctc said 3 to 4 weeks to get them :wallbash: summer will be over by then lol Outfitters in Calgary have them in the store but you have to go thru someone else to order them

    So it takes 3 weeks.

You probably still won't have put you boat in the water by then anyway!!!! :tease::tease::tease::tease::tease:

  3. So this crack and rivet is on the mating surface to the deck bulkhead flange? Looks like you have full access through that hatch. I can also see the paint appears scuffed as if you scrubbed a dock across this spot. It all adds up to stress and flex and the rivet hole starts the crack as it's already weakened by the hole (and a loose rivet).

I'd stop drill the crack, put a small doubler in between the hull and the bulkhead (to rivet around the crack) and add a few more rivets along the length of the bulkhead flange AND do the other side while I was at it. Must be someone close that can help you do the same.

Don't forget a generous amount of skiaflex or 3m 5200 between the hull and doubler.

Should be a pretty easy fix.

  4. Had to get away from the cooking thread, thx to Ricl lol

    QUESTION

Saw a really cool rod holder on a boat in town,,,I have the one where u rotate the collar on the end to get the rod out and have saw the ones with the rubber bands.....BUT this one folded into itself like a clamshell sort of idea

The guy showed it to me,,,with the rod in and closed when trolling and u have a hit u simply grab the rod in front and behind of the rod holder and lift up,,,holder pops open and instant hook set all in one upward pull,,,the guy said he purchased three years ago in Toronto ,,,he fished alot on Lake Ontario

I tried the ctc site but striking out so far, I do not know where he lives so I cant double check with him

    Help appreciated

    John

I changed from those type To Scotty Orca rod holders.

They did have 3 in stock at CT a few weeks ago but they have since been sold.

You would have to order them in.

  5.

I have a yammy 115 as well, do you find a big improvement with 4 blade prop?

My Merc really works much better with the 4 blade than 3 blade prop.

Get up on plane in a boat length and it grips more water so I'm able to trim it up higher raising the nose more and running on the pad.

I gained about 4MPH on the top end.

Unfortunately I dinged it on a rock last week so I'm back to the 3 blade until late in the year when I can get it repaired.

Going to have to get me a second 4 blade me thinks. ;)

  6. When I went from 3 blade 17" pitch to 4 blade 17" pitch on my Merc 115 my trolling speeds stayed the same. 1.9-2.2 MPH @ 700 RPM.

I can get down to about 1.5 MPH by cutting back my RPMs to 550 using Merc's troll control system on my smart craft guages.

Yesterday I needed to drop down even slower as I was power jigging in 70' for lakers and just used my 80# Minnkota with copilot.

Was trolling between .6 and 1.5 MPH depending on what I wanted to do (highest speed I used on the TM was 3 yesterday). Steering was done with the remote and auto pilot.

Smacked a bunch of good fish too!!!! :D

PS. I also have a drift sock in the boat for those times it's needed. ;)

  7.

I've been in the same situation, it definitely sucks. But until there some actual information, you've got zero to go on.

Yep, in my case I knew it was coming and as soon as it did my next stop was the labour board.

The next step was to see the HRDC people about $$$$ for retraining, then I went back to school to become a Sunshine List Employee!!! :D:lol::tease:

  8. always wanted one but when you price them out you will see that you are $4000.00 for a decent used one then add $500.00 for storage for the winter it adds up in a hurry. Even if you just invest the $500.00 you would pay for storage each year in new camping equipment each year you would have a pretty good set up in a few years

    Pretty much!!

I paid $6,500 for mine used but it was only a few years old and in like new condition.

I store it in a lot in Alaska and pay about $360 US/year for said storage.

But that $360 is less than the extra gas cost to get it there and back. ;)

  9. I've been to the Yukon and Alaska. Statistically speaking, the risk of a bear attack while sleeping in a tent is minimal, anywhere.

Snuggle up in your sleeping bag with your 12 gauge, safety on, with 4 slugs in the mag :)

Doesn't make it less creepy when they are sniffing @ your tent though. ;)

Ran into a large bear while exiting the river one day. She ignored me from 10 feet away.

Was pretty cool, I'm just glad I wasn't eaten.

FYI, she was over 1000#'s according to locals who had seen her.
