  1. Made a trip up north yesterday to my place on Chemong Lake close to Bridgenorth. There was very little snow on roofs, if any at all. The rain really melted alot of snow. My deck was still covered so I cleared it off. That's a great offer to check up on member's places while your up there.
  2. I am a contractor who uses Peacock Lumber in Oshawa quite frequently. I asked about marine plywood a while back and they told me that marine plywood is constructed differently then regular plywood. It's all in the the way they construct the core of the sheet. All plywood is made up of a series thin layers that are laminated together to reach the specified thickness. In regular plywood these layers are made up of smaller pieces that are placed beside each other during laminating, this causes voids in the sides where water can get in and do it's damage. On marine plywoods the core is made up of pieces of laminate that stretch the whole length of the sheet, eliminating the voids from the melding of the layers side by side. They also use an exterior grade glue. When you hear of it being a mahogany sheet this only refers to what the exterior layer of laminate is made of. I hope this clears up the confusion.
  3. Here's a link to Auld Reekie Lodge http://www.auldreekielodge.com/index.html Looking at the site has me seriously thinking of another trip up.
  4. Just got back from Cook's on the Gilford side. The ice is the best we could hope for. About 7" of clear solid black ice. No drifts, a little bit of standing snow in places. The walk out is a piece of cake. Lots of guys out there. The perch were on real good.
  5. Tookmy dad to Gowaganda a couple years back for his retirement gift and had a blast. Stayed with Auld Reekie Lodge and they bent over backwards to make our stay the best it could be. All kinds of fish caught on the home lake, and traveled to two others they araange while we were there, one was fly in private walleye lake. We went in August and caught steady fish. They have everything you need and can set you up with a package for a boat and bait, even meal plans. I highly recommend their lodge. I have memories from there that I will cherish my whole life.
  6. I picked up my new Marcum LX5 a couple weeks ago. Hopefully I get to test her out this weekend. I did quite a bit of research and concluded that this unit is way above anything else out on the market.
  7. Have to agree with misfish. Ice fishing line is a farse. I have tried all kinds under some pretty extreme conditions and find that the mono does just as well. If you have water and minus degree temperatures it's gonna freeze up. I pay more attention to the rod I use making sure that it has oversize guides.
  8. I just purchased a child's floater jacket from Ebay. It is made by mustang. Not sure if they make the whole suit, but I figured He could where his snow pants with them. This way he feels like one of the guys in his bright orange jacket, like everyone else. It's a Christmas present so shhhh.
  9. Real cool site. Thanks. Here is my first attempt. http://www.xtranormal.com/watch?s=25525
  10. Thanks for the nice words guys.
  11. When I get trouble for leaving the toilet seat up I reply with a simple, " It's gonna dry off faster that way"
  12. WTG on the "hooking up" Looks like a fantastic trip. Your a lucky man to find a lady who is willing to go fishing for a honeymoon. She's a keeper for sure. You can only top this if you make it custom to travel to a different fishing destination to celebrate each anniversary, now that would be cool. Great post and again congrats to you both. Is there anyone out there that can PhotoShop a Leafs hat on this guy? Great photos tarnished by a Detroit cap. What a shame.
  13. Hooked up with gone_fishing for a few hours on the lake this evening. We trolled the south side of the causeway heading west so we could access the north side of the lake. Powered up the lake at 3mph in my tin can and headed to an area that was producing some nice fish earlier in the fall. No takers. Headed across the lake in front my park where the docks used to be. Drifted past, and nothing. Made the run to the beginning of the drift and tried again. About half way I hooked onto what I thought was a giant weed growth. Then it turned. Holy bud, I'm into a good one. Then we saw a monster eye surface. thanks to the fantastic netting skills of gone_fishing there was now my PB walleye laying on the floor of my boat. Now I don't know if you guys are gonna believe this but it weighed in at 6lb 14oz on the digital scale, and measured 28". I got it on an Xrap in a secret colour. Does any of this sound familiar? I am one happy angler tonight. Two minutes later gone_fishing hooks into a nice eater that he will be enjoying for dinner. So no skunkings happening on my aluminum boat's first trip on Chemong. I have only had the boat out twice prior to tonight and both resulted in skunkings on Scugog. To have the first fish caught in the boat to be a PB is one hell of a way to Christen her. Great night bud.
  14. Try the pier on the east side of the mouth. To get there exit 401 at Liberty, follow bend. Just before the bridge under the 401 turn right. Take 1st right go over tracks and past the marina to the end. There is a place to park at the end of this street walk out to the pier and start casting.
  15. Thanks gone_fishing I think I have the photo thing figured out. Enjoy.
  16. I agree with prior posts the Pflueger reels and rods are amazing for the money. I have the a couple sizes of the President, and a couple Trions all very good. I also like my Shimano Sahara. Very smooth and resonable in price.
  17. Well where do I start. Had a fantastic weekend with Dmac and Tempy. We got to the lake Friday evening in time for a little fishn action. It was only a few minutes into our first drift that Tempy hooked onto a descent largemouth. We all caught in that spot and went out a little deeper. I hooked into an18' eye and then Tempy boated an absolutely steller eye, this thing was a beauty. We decided to get back to the dock, just as we did the boat stalled out. I figured we were out of gas so I hunted down the marina operator and made arrangements to see him early the next morning to fill up. When we got up and down to the boat she was sitting oddly low in the water. We lifted the doghouse to find the bilge area full of water. Flipped the bilge switch and nothing happened. Bilge pump is fried I guess. So we paddle a 23 ft water filled boat over to the gas dock where we through another pump in her and get the water out. Filled up with gas and headed out. I hope the rest of the day isn't a reflection of the morning. It most certainly wasn't. It was a day filled with constant fish catchn' action. WE managed to catch seven species of fish, including: bluegill, perch, crappie, rockbass, smallies, largies, and walleye. I will post some photos and this is by no means all the fish caught. It had to be a 30+ bass day. Fished until about 6 or so and headed back in for a munch. Sunday we got up and down to the dock to find the boat sitting low again. Not good. I must of bailed about 20 gallons of water out if not more. We fished through the heavy winds, and fast drift. Not much caught today but a great time anyways. I decided to pull the boat out of the water as it would be a submarine by next weekend. Upon further inspection while out of the water we found the source of the leak. A muskrat has made my outdrive bellow it's personal chew toy. Anybody got a shotgun? In closing I just wanted to say big thanks to the boys for coming out and I had a great time chock full of fish and laughs. Iam having troubles posting photos from my photobucket. It just keeps saying image uploading and not doing anything. That rotating circle is makin me dizzy. Can anyone let me know what I'm doing wrong? If you want to see the photos go to www.onthebog.com look under the Kawartha Lakes thread. Hope you enjoyed viewing the photos, I sure enjoyed taking them Thanks
  18. With 15 years experience in the window and door business you can rest assure that I will have the knowledge and skill to perform your improvement professionally in a timely manner. I specialize in full frame removal, as it is in most cases the proper method of installation. I can realize your dream of turning that window into patio door giving you easy access to your deck. with a fully stocked mobile workshop the job is done right the first time. I serve the GTA and cottage country (if your on the lake, LOL) A price estimate is always free of charge and is also an opportunity to get honest answers as I know it can be an extremely confusing process to the inexperienced home owner. References available. email. [email protected] Thank You Mark.
  19. Thanks for the welcomes guys. I will be out on Chemong/Buckhorn this weekend with a few guys I met on other forums last year during ice season. I will post some photos for sure. Lots of them I hope.
  20. Hello All. Just wanted to introduce myself to the members who don't know me from the other forums. I have been fishing my whole life thanks in part to my father who had the smarts to put a rod in my hand at a very young age. I have had the opportunity to fish many greeat waters over the years and have enjoyed every one of them no matter what the fish count. I prefer to practice catch and release as I definately like the bite better then the taste. I'm there mostly for the fun of it all. I fish year round and I am the kind of guy who looks forward to the hardwater all summer and counts the days down to the softwater in the winter.LOL. I have met some great guys on some of the other sites and I hope that continues here. Thanks Laker272
