  1. You can get cheap $1 ones at the dollar store, I think dollarama (They are clear in colour). I bought like 5 of them as emergency back ups last year, they are very compact and great to keep in the tackle box. If you're looking for a long term solution, I'd invest in a good rain suit.

  2. Thanks for your responses. I will try out the swivel. Forgot to mention that I will be primarily fishing off the shore, not a boat. So in this case, the waters will be relatively shallow calling for a faster, steady retrieval, correct?? If I put a floater on the line about a foot or two above the spinner will this effect the spinning action and defeat the purpose of the spinner??

It definitely would effect the action imo. Just keep your rod tip up when reeling in to keep it running shallow. Alternatively pointing the rod tip down will make it run deeper.

  3. Hey guys just purchased a mepps black fury #3 dressed, just to try something new. I have not used spinners before. For a small inline spinner such as this, is it recommended to put a swivel on the line? Also, when fishing a spinner, once it is cast you have to start reeling in right a way, correct?? Otherwise the weight on the lure will cause it to sink and potentially get caught on the floor bottom?? Also, do only larger fish go for such spinners?

I will be fishing Ken Whillans area in Caledon, Ontario this weekend. You think it will be able to catch fish here?

    Thanks

It all depends what you're targetting. A #3 I'm assuming you're after bass and you should get a variety of size fish on it. If you're after strictly bigger fish you could go up the size. I've had some big bass hit #5 when pike fishing but for a versatile lure you can't go wrong with a #3 dressed.

  4. Use the arbor knot which is nothing more than a slip knot with an overhand knot on the tag end. Thr overhand knot keeps the line from pulling free through the slip knot when you pull it tight.

Same here, never had a problem.

  5. Without a doubt, get yourself a white spinnerbait to start. They don't snag too often, you'll pull in some weeds like any lure but being a single hook they aren't as likely to get deep snagged. You also have a bit of control with depth holding your rod tip up will keep it above the weeds while holding it down will allow it to dive a couple of feet below the surface.

Also a rapala crankbait, preferably a shallow running one or a floating one to keep above the weeds.

I have a lot more success with these setups then any worm rig for bass. Retrieving a spinnerbait is as easy as just cast and crank her in. Crankbaits have a variety of methods to play with for triggering bass. Usually jerking, twitching or sweeping works best but even so a simple retrieve will have the lure wobble left to right.

Walleye will be much more difficult to target from shore, they tend to stay deeper and not always easy to find.

  6. Just got back from Temagami yesterday and was stranded at a remote lake for hours in the pouring rain after the truck wouldn't start. I'm not going to lie, it's pretty scary stuff.

Luckily we got 1 bar on the cell phone and got the local mechanic to find us through the access roads and managed to pull us out. Had to stay a night in a motel but luckily it started up the next morning.

So word of warning, it's not very fun if you get stuck in the middle of no where!!!!! Whereever you end up going, make sure u got a back up plan and let others know. We certainly didn't plan on staying an extra 21hrs in Temagami and not something I want to have happen again.

  7. I think hitting the lip off rocks purposely cast after cast for 2hrs could definitely weaken most baits, it's too bad yours took the worst of it. I understand the technique but I wouldn't use my expensive baits for it. Every contact a lure makes against structure is different which can cause damanage. It's a risk you take and a company can't be held responsible for that.

At the same time, I'm a little surprised they didn't just put a new one in the box for you which costs them probably $0.25.

Next time buy extended warrently lol

  8. A lot of you guys are on crack. I love what Burke has done for the Leafs so far. Keep in mind, the leafs were top 10 in scoring all season last year, offense has never been their issue. They've always lacked a solid D and a good goalie. From what little areas he had to work with, he's done a lot of positives for the leafs than we havn't seen in years. We have a rock solid D right now and possibly a top goalie down the road.

This is rebuilding, it will take a few years and if you guys think a GM can just come in here and suddenly bring in an A+ team from nothing you're on crack. Get rid of Kaberle and bring in a solid forward or two to replace Antroprov/Moore's contributions and we're moving in the right direction. In the next year or two they will need to find a key player to build the organization around but I believe the pieces are starting to come together.

And no, I'm not saying they are cup contenders or even playoff bound yet. But in a couple of years I believe we will be a solid team with Burke making the decisions.

  9. I hate to say but I agree with Gino - With no car or boat you're going to have a difficult time finding peaceful fishing in Canada's most populated city. If you're able to go north there is a lot more what you're after.

I'm like you though, I hate fishing around others! I'm lucky to have a fishing partner who has a real passion and has picked up a tin boat.

My suggestion would be to find a fishing partner, one with a car that is. Try to plan small trips and split on gas.

  10. Smaller the bobber the better, it allows the fish to take it under. When it's larger it adds too much resistance that you'll often get nibbles without a hookset. That's why the pencil type floats generally are superior as others said.
