  1. I'm SO all over this. AND - not to hijack the thread, buuut, this too: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...nkEnabled=false
  2. I use this for general photography - I think it would probably work quite well on a boat actually. http://blackphotostore.com/english/proddetail.asp?sku=5692 http://giottos.com/VT.htm It's regular 59.99 by the looks of the blacks site, but I have seen it on sale for ~30 before. It adjusts in two spots on each leg individually, has bubble levels, and best of all it folds down very compact and is LIGHT. You may also be able to get away with a small 'pocket' tripod if you get a bit creative. Good Luck! B
  3. Heh - yeah she did that to John I believe on our last Pike trip... Yessir, thanks for having us up, and takin me out. Your suit dry yet?
  4. Johnnyb and I got a chance to do some cold weather walleye and bass fishing yesterday up just north of Bracebridge. Ignoring the looks of friends and family who thught we were crazy we headed up Saturday night after work, and left the wives snoring at the cottage Sunday morning. After the second or third trolling run, we stopped to do a weed check, and cast around a small weedbed we drifted across while setting up for the next line, and this nice little guy slammed my bait: An honest 15 1/2 inches (and a close 16 if measured creatively!) One coffee break, and a quite a few rain drops later, johnnyb picked this lovely 18incher up as we trolled a line across the same weedbed: Despite the weather, and the slow bite this was a great time. Fishing this late in the season is new to me, but I'm already trying to squeeze another trip in before ice closes in. Sorry for the grainy pics, all I took was my cell given the weather conditions. B
  5. Is the twitchin' bar all it's cracked up to be?
  6. I started on, still use, and love my Team Daiwa Advantage 150H. I don't know that any retail stores are still carrying it, but I've seen it for sale online quite a bit - I'm already looking at a second Daiwa reel (Viento or megaforce 100tshl). Whatever baitcaster you go with, you may want to start with a higher lb-test (14 atleast) mono - a lot easier to untangle when you have the inevitable backlash while you're learning. Good luck! B
  7. IME it hasn't made much of a difference what line/setup is being used if the bite is on. I can see how with clear water, live bait, species being fished for, lighter line may be useful, but here's an interesting situation: On our last outing, my wife, myself, Johnnyb, and Laker Jessy were in two canoes. Roughly 10'-20' apart. Both running a Minn Kota Drift Sock out the back, going about the same speed. All of us were using 3" tube jigs, right on bottom for Smallies. I'll ignore jig head size for the moment because I don't have the numbers. I was using 14lb Mono, Johnnyb green power pro (__lb test?), Jessy red power pro (__lb test?), and my wife 10/12?lb flouro. Nicole and I had a small swivel clip at the end of the line for simplicity. I'm going to assume that the power pro's were doing the same for the moment (I'm sure I'll be corrected shortly if I'm wrong). Nicole caught nothing on the fluoro ( a few small ones got off beside the boat); I got a few in the 1-2lb range on the mono; the two running power pro hooked into several, including two over 4lbs. Doesn't speak volumes for fluoro; nor does it seem the power pro got in the way. Until someone develops wireless fishing rods, this debate will go on and on...I think it's somewhere on the same list as wireless power bars
  8. Hi, After lurking around here for a few months, I figured it was time I posted - so hello to everyone. If I can dig up some time this Sunday I was going to take a run down to Scugog and try it out for the first time. Probably be looking to rent a boat - can anyone give some suggestions on the best rates/availability for someone who doesn't book ahead? So far I was thinking Westshore out of Port Perry. And...without giving away any 'honey hole' areas - would there be a generalized area I should maybe head for first instead of chewing up all the rental time hunting for them? Our main target will probably be Largemouth, but I'm not opposed to the opportunity to take on a musky! Any and all info appreciated. Thanks! B
